21.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK This week we celebrate NAIDOC week - to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. This year’s theme is Always Was, Always Will Be, which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years.

20.01.2022 Update - Asymptomatic testing for pre-operative patients. The Department of Health and Human Services has directed that COVID-19 swab testing of patients undergoing elective surgery who live and work in regional Victoria is no longer required. This direction is in response to much lower COVID-19 case numbers and analysis of the preoperative COVID-19 testing program. ... Information for patients preparing for elective surgery: All elective surgery patients being booked at NCN Health will no longer routinely require a pre-op COVID-19 swab. Elective surgery patients are not required to stay isolated until their day of surgery but are advised to minimise their movements. All patients will continue to be screened using NCN Health’s pre-op COVID screening tool. Any elective patients who do not pass the screening assessment will be referred for a pre-op COVID-19 swab and be advised to isolate until they receive their result.

The Department of Health and Human Services has directed that any year 12 student who requires a COVID-19 swab test during the exam period will have their test marked as a priority This means the test results turnaround will be much quicker for year 12 students. While the time it takes for test results to be returned is dependent on the volume of tests being processed, high priority tests are usually returned within 1 - 3 days. ... Please tell the staff at the testing station that you are a year 12 student and bring your student card with you, if you have one. Swab testing is available to anyone showing symptoms, however mild, of COVID-19 including; fever, chills or sweats, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose and fatigue or tiredness for no identified reason. 13.01.2022 World Diabetes Day November 14 World Diabetes Day was created in response to growing concerns about the health threat posed by diabetes around the world. 463 million adults (1-in-11) were living with diabetes in 2019 The number of people living with diabetes is expected rise to 578 million by 2030.... 1 in 2 adults with diabetes remain undiagnosed (232 million). The majority have type 2 diabetes. 1 in 6 live births (20 million) are affected by high blood glucose (hyperglycaemia) in pregnancy. Diabetes caused 4.2 million deaths in 2019. Diabetes was responsible for at least $760 billion in health expenditure in 2019 10% of the global total spent on healthcare. What can you do? Get out and about! Exercise is one of the best things you can do to combat chronic diseases like Diabetes, but there’s no need to run a marathon or hit the gym to see the benefits. Make a plan to walk around the block once a day, spend some time in the garden or ditch the car and walk to work, or into town to meet a friend.
