03.01.2022 2nd XI: Sarvesh Shanbhag’s tenure as captain began with a win yesterday as our Men’s 2nd XI defended 142 against St Bernard’s. Having won the toss and elected to bat, our innings looked in trouble at 7/70, with only vice-captain Daniel Patrick (42) reaching double figures.... With the lower order needing to wag, Amila Kariyawasam struck a counter-attacking 37, while Michael Chiaramonte (14) and Arslan Khan (22) also provided vital runs as we set a target of 142. With a moderate total to defend, our bowlers delivered a stellar performance to win the game. Young spearheads Yahya Elmi (2/23) and Jacob Hutchinson (2/35) took crucial top order wickets, before Darren Scott (2/17) and Arslan Khan (0/17) applied the clamps in the middle overs. Off-spinner Abdullah Sohail (3/20) took key wickets in the final overs of the game as we sealed a 3 run victory against a strong Bernard’s side. Well done boys on a resilient display after a shaky start. Go Burgers!
