20.01.2022 #FacesofCoburgHarriers MEET DANIEL Daniel has been part of the Coburg Harriers family since 2016, when he joined Little Athletics. He now trains in the senior group with Benny Tancredi, as a sprinter. We asked Daniel a few questions! Do you have a role at the club? If so, what is it? Earlier this year I joined the club's 125th celebration committee to help with the organisation for the day. Also, I would love to become a coach at the club in the future.... What is your preferred event? I’m a sprinter therefore my favourite distances range from 100m-400m. Still working out which distance I’m best at, but each year I feel like the 400m is my prime event. How has the club and training helped you? The sprint squad here at Coburg Harriers is a very tight knit group and from the day I joined they all made me feel welcome. At first I just wanted to do athletics for fun, but the squad convinced me to try competing (mainly driven by Benny!) After my first year of running in the Victorian Athletic league, I was hooked to the sport, especially after competing at the Stawell Gift over the Easter weekend. The club has helped me fall in love with the sport and made me want to come to training every week. What do you like about the club? I like how each squad whether it’s the middle distance or throws etc, they all have great chemistry with each other and it’s just great when running around the track seeing all the squads training hard and having fun at the same time. Greatest achievement? My greatest achievement so far has been making the under-17 final at Stawell as a 14-year-old. Running goals? My goal for this season is to run a sub 50 second 400m. Which Coburg Harrier(s) inspires you the most and why? Our president Michael Carney has really inspired me. The work he is doing for this club is fantastic. How are you coping in lockdown? Running-wise, training has been going well, it mainly consisted of rehab as I have had an ongoing foot issue and this is the time to really make sure it’s good to go for the season. #runcoburg #runmoreland #facesofcoburgharriers #coburgharrierscommunity #melbourneinstarunners #morelandcitycouncil #activemoreland

11.01.2022 #FacesofCoburgHarriers MEET NATHAN Nathan joined the Harriers at the start of 2020 after moving to Coburg. We asked him a few questions. What is your role at the club? I'd say I'm an enthusiastic member who's been helping out with the administration of the Harriers. I'm currently putting together a 2021 calendar to showcase the club.... What is your preferred distance/event? I love getting out on trails when I can, and I'm looking to improve my times for distances ranging from 10km to the marathon. How has the club/training helped you? I was going to some of the Tuesday/Thursday training sessions before the lockdown. Since then, I've appreciated meeting up with people for a run from time to time. I'm looking forward to competing for the club in the 2021 winter cross country season. What do you like about the club? Everyone is friendly and it has an inclusive feel. There's also a rich history - the club is almost 125 years old Greatest achievement? The most meaningful to me was running the Melbourne Marathon with my sister, Nicole (pictured) in 2017. It was my first marathon and her 6th consecutive year running Melbourne Marathon (I think!) We ran halfway together, before she told me to run my own race. Running goals? Gradually lift my mileage and keep running over the long-term. Which Coburg Harrier(s) inspires you the most and why? What I find motivating is spotting fellow Harriers when I'm out running - usually along the Merri Creek. It's nice to feel a part of a community. How are you coping in lockdown? Like so many people, I've been gardening. My tomato seedlings are almost ready to plant! I've also been watching old seasons of Survivor. #facesofcoburgharriers #coburgharrierscommunity #melbourneinstarunners #melbourneinstarunner #coburglake #coburglakereserve #merricreek #coburgharriers #runnersofinstagram #runcoburg #runmoreland #morelandcitycouncil #activemoreland #running #run #runner #runningmotivation #runnerscommunity #runningwoman #run4fun #runspiration #runlovers #runstrong #runshots #runlife #runningaddict #runaddict #runningcoburg #runningmoreland

05.01.2022 HILL SESSION !! Percy Cerutty, Herb Elliott Interval Training Program for Thursday 29th October... Time for another hill session! Hills are good for developing strength and technique. When running up hills concentrate on upright posture, don’t lean forward at the hips, and don’t overstride. Use your warmup run to try and find a suitable hill in your location. Hill should be not too steep, if you have been to the Tan about the same gradient as Anderson St hill, and ideally between 400m and 500m from bottom to top, but shorter is ok. Roughly mark out the, quarter way, halfway and three quarter way marks. Drills and Stretch. SET 1 From bottom run hard (same intensity as 1k pace on the flat) to halfway mark. Turn and slow jog back to quarter way mark. Turn and hard run to three quarter way mark. Turn and slow jog back to half way mark. Turn and hard run to top. Turn and jog back to bottom. Standing rest and recover for 1 minute then repeat. After 2nd hill run rest and recover 3 5 Minutes. SET 2 Using the steepest (if there is one) one quarter section of hill, around 100m 125m long. 8 X hill sprints (as fast as you can manage), with slow jog down between. Cooldown 1k Very Easy run.
