13.01.2022 Today is the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Every year, millions of people are forced to flee their home countries.Today, there are app...roximately 60 million people who have been displaced as a result of persecution, armed conflict, war and gross human rights violations. Many of them have been subjected to torture and other forms of ill-treatment. Torture victims often suffer severe physical and psychological consequences that are exacerbated by the experiences of flight, perilous journeys to safety and forcibly living in a foreign country. They need support to rebuild their lives after torture. In Tasmania the Phoenix Centre, which is operated by Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania, provides support services to people and communities who have experienced torture and other traumatic events in their country of origin or while fleeing those countries. The Centre delivers counselling and a wide range of training and projects which support the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. 04.01.2022 Worth considering ..

03.01.2022 As our TCTSY annual teacher training is soon to get under way, it is timely to be reminded of why we may be called to this work and the complexities of life situations people find themselves in. Alongside the inability to describe or relay individual circumstances, this article highlights the difficulty in adequately naming a particular type of trauma for what it is. Humbled to be doing this work, and looking forward to meeting our 35 new students next weekend
