25.01.2022 I really enjoyed Nimbin in northern NSW. A very colourful town full of interesting people who love to have a chat. I had a awesome time joining in with the locals on a Friday night in the street, for a drumming session. Locals heard the beat through the valley & turned up with their drums & dancing feet. So much fun.
23.01.2022 A great day exploring Kroombit Tops NP. You need a 4WD to visit the crash site of Beautiful Betsy, a WW11 B-241 Liberator Bomber. She crashed in 1945, with 8 people on board & was discovered by chance when a ranger was doing fire reduction in 1994.
22.01.2022 Cockatoo Campers visited the Natural Arch at Springbrook NP. I would recommend a visit. An easy track to the falls.
22.01.2022 Here's a few more photos from this trip into Queensland
15.01.2022 Cockatoo Campers have been on the road for over a month, travelling with other people, one towing a caravan & the other in a Toyota Hiace. There are advantages & disadvantages for every camping configuration. We have been spending most of our nights in free camps, some very good.
14.01.2022 The Cockatoo's flew into the Murray Sunset NP to see the pink lakes. So peaceful & not many campers. The pink colour of the lakes varies throughout the year.
14.01.2022 We're off again on another adventure B4 Dementia. Two Cockatoos, two Galahs & one dog have flown the coup, leaving the city life behind, planning to travel in convoy for 7mths or so towards WA. First stop the lovely town of Cowra, with the beautiful Japanese Gardens & the unfortunate history of the WW2 POW Camp, where the Japanese carried out a mass escape resulting in the deaths of 234 Japanese & 5 Australians.
11.01.2022 The Cockatoo's stopped overnight at Willow Reserve in Griffith where we visited the monument for Donald Mackay who is remembered for his moral fortitute in supporting those less fortunate & his resolve to keep the city free of illegal drugs. He was callously murdered & his body never found.
09.01.2022 We stayed a few days chilling out at Calliope Rest area. We heard stories from a few resident campers, of the bream that were caught in the river. One of the lovely benifits of camping, is the people you meet. You don't have the same opportunities at home.
09.01.2022 We're in Queensland. Here's a few pics from a lovely camp at Little Yabba Creek, near Kenilworth, west of Eumundi. A short walk takes you through a Figtree rainfirest walk. The resident white rooster likes to hang around camp & would even hop into people's vans. The rooster became very annoying in the early hours, still a nice spot to stop & explore nearby Montville & Maleny.
05.01.2022 In Kroombit NP, forging a new path after a huge fallen tree blocked the road & knocking a few more down on the way.
03.01.2022 Our group of four intrepid travellers, left Sydney 4 weeks ago, with a comprehensive itinerary to last us for at least 12 months. Well, the months of of planning quickly changed when the Corinavirus hit. Free campsites were being closed off & we were lucky to find a picturesque spot on the banks of the beautiful Murray River, to hold out for as long as necessary. After ridding the camp area of toilet paper, (now we know why it's in short supply) we are trying to relieve the river if its Carp population.
01.01.2022 Here's a few pics of a nice drive we did through the Condamine Gorge.
