25.01.2022 We added our 2020 events to our page late 2019. This year we have not been able to host many of these events but they have remained on our page as we did not know when we would be able to re-open. If you see an event appear on your news feed, please do not assume that it is going ahead until we confirm that the RSL can again open. We look forward to seeing you all again as soon as this is possible

24.01.2022 Join us to commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day, marking the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan (1966), where D Company 6 Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) fought... a fierce battle against North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops close to the village of Long Tan. In 1969, 6RAR veterans held a memorial service there and, over time, the date became synonymous with all those who served in Vietnam, until 1987 when Prime Minister Bob Hawke officially declared Long Tan Day as Vietnam Veterans Day. The Shrine is a living monument, a building with a soul. Throughout our closure period, we will continue to honour the service and sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of Victorians. See more

24.01.2022 This is all the battles/conflicts which are not recognized. Thank-you to all who served

21.01.2022 In Memory Of Corporal John Hurst Edmondson VC, who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross in 1941. He was born on the 8th of October 1914, at Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. On the night of 13th14th April, 1941, a party of German infantry broke through the wire defences at Tobruk, and established themselves with at least six machine guns, mortars and two small field pieces. It was decided to attack them with bayonets, and a party consisting of one officer, Corporal Edmond...son and five privates, took part in the charge. During the counter-attack Corporal Edmondson was wounded in the neck and stomach but continued to advance under heavy fire and killed one enemy with his bayonet. Later, his officer had his bayonet in one of the enemy and was grasped about the legs by him, when another attacked him from behind. He called for help, and Corporal Edmondson, who was some yards away, immediately came to his assistance and in spite of his wounds, killed both of the enemy. This action undoubtedly saved his officer's life. Shortly after returning from this successful counter-attack, Corporal Edmondson died of his wounds. His actions throughout the operations were outstanding for resolution, leadership and conspicuous bravery. The photograph on this post is of five Victoria Cross recipients standing behind of the grave of Corporal Edmondson VC and was taken on the 25th of April, 1953, in the Tobruk War Cemetery, Libya. They were there while on their way to England to attend the coronation of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. They are left to right. Private F.J. Partridge VC, (Australia). Private E. Kenna VC, (Australia). Sergeant J. D. Hinton VC, (New Zealand). Private R. Kelliher VC, (Australia). Sergeant R. Rattey VC, (Australia). Lest We Forget. Information came from the Australian War Memorial and Wikipedia. Photograph came form the Australian War Memorial. Image file number AWM P01895.001. See more

18.01.2022 Being an RSL member for many is a passion, privilege and a way for individuals to support their local Sub-Branch and their work in supporting veterans in the co...mmunity. RSL Victoria administers, in conjunction with its 277 Sub-Branches, have 5 different categories of membership, these being Life, Service, Affiliate, Social and Community memberships. In 2019 saw the RSL Victoria Sub-Branch network reach new heights in membership numbers with 203,003 Victorians joining their local RSL in support of veteran and their families. The first time the RSL has reached over 200,000 members in its history! Most importantly the numbers concerned saw an increase in the number of Service members joining their local RSL, something that has not be achieved in decades, where we are proud that our Sub-Branch network is enrapturing the modern veteran and their families with its local presence, community support and veteran services locally. We thank all our RSL members for their continued support especially during this tough period in 2020! We can’t wait for our Sub-Branch network and its members to unite again within their local Branches and continue this success story into the future. For more information on our membership services in 2019 please access our Annual Report here: https://bit.ly/3mGt1QW

07.01.2022 Work hard; play hard. It is a saying that a lot of us can relate to, but for some veteran, discharging from the Australian Defence Force can leave them a little... bit lost on how to take the next step into their civilian career. This is why RSL Victoria has launched a new veteran employment program as part of a national initiative to offer holistic support services across the country. Finding meaningful employment can be essential for many people, but this is especially true of veterans and their families. Employment can give veterans purpose and direction which can help veterans better transition into civilian life or settle in after relocating. This Veterans’ Health Week (VHW) we are encouraging veterans who are considering a career change, or who are looking to jump into the civilian work force after leaving the ADF to get in touch with RSL Employment. Our services include career counselling, help to translate your skills for the civilian job market, help interpreting selection criteria, help with writing CVs, application letters and social media profiles, interview coaching, and connections to employers. Get in touch with the RSL Employment Program via VETCEN on 1300 MILVET (1300 645 838) or for more information follow the link provided: https://bit.ly/2HpRRVp. #VHW20
