21.01.2022 A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago. It was raining, though not excessively when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and literally flew thr...ough the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence! When she explained to the Police Officer what had happened, he told her something that every driver should know - NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON.. She thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain.... But the Police Officer told her that if the cruise control is on, your car will begin to hydro-plane when the tires lose contact with the road, and your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an airplane. She told the Officer that was exactly what had occurred. The Officer said this warning should be listed, on the drivers seat sun-visor - NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE ROAD IS WET OR ICY, Along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed but we dont tell them to use the cruise control only when the road is dry. The only person the accident victim found who knew this, (besides the Officer), was a man whod had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.. NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on. 08.01.2022 I have been toying with an idea to start a new business venture. Sometimes I wonder why some towies work for the big companies... You are giving them 20 to 30% of your take, they are dictating to you that you need to charge a pittance just so they can hold their contract to line their own pockets, and at the end of the day they are feeding their own company trucks first. A lot of the times you are getting the scraps in your own back yard... Well "Crash Converters" may be wha...t you are looking for. You load the crash, drop it to our yard, and we pay you by EBT before you leave. None of this waiting 4 - 6 weeks, sometimes more to get paid, you get paid on drop. We will chase up the claim number, and sort it all out, and you just do what us towies love doing, loading smashes. Why load a crash on your own back, pay your spotters and still be left with about $150 in ya pocket due to ridiculously low contractual prices??? Doesnt wash for me. If you see me around lets have a chat, its about 8 weeks away from now but hopefully its going to be an alternative for those who have their area established, get their own ring ins and are switched on. Isnt it about time you started to line your own pockets? See more
