25.01.2022 Another absolutely awesome day at Jetty Beach. The Multicultural Beach Safety Education Day was a real success with over 30 participants hitting the water and ...learning some fundamentals on beach safety. Some of these participants had never been in the ocean before. Thanks again to all the Council Lifeguard staff who participated, Alex, Daley, Trent, Maddi, Georgia, Kate, Libby, Tahlia and Jayden, also our local community volunteers, Sharen, Jorgie and Jade. Thank you to all the staff from Settlement Services International and North Coast Settlement Services and NSW Police (especially Adriana & Daniel) who without these three organisations, this program would not get off the ground. Thank you also to Aquatic Tutoring Australia who provided a marquee and staff to assist with water safety and last but not least, Kel and Leanne from Surf Lifesaving NSW (Sawtell SLS Club) who provided a trailer with heaps of valuable information, gift bags and some body boards for use by participants. Look forward to the next one. Thank you everyone. See more

22.01.2022 Work is continuing at the Nana Glen derailment. Contractors are delivering loads of gambion & road base to shore up the road below the rail line & allow access ...for salvage vehicles & cranes. Heavy machinery is being used to clear damaged rail line & freight containers. The two 400 tonne cranes that were delivered on site yesterday have commenced lifting the locomotive that fell on to its side. Thankfully rain has not fallen on the site today which will greatly assist the process. Residents & businesses on Morrows Road are hopeful that the rail line & road can get back to normal as soon as possible. Just a reminder that Morrows Road is closed at Palomino Drive and the roadblock is manned 24 hrs a day. Traffic on the road is heavy and the entire length of Morrows Road should be avoided unless you have a valid reason to be there. Thanks again to all contractors involved for their efforts. See more

18.01.2022 SCAM ALERT! We’ve had several reports of scam callers pretending to be from the NSW Police Force and threatening call recipients with fines or arrest. The scam...mer states that the person receiving the call has an outstanding fine or warrant. They then demand a form of payment to prevent arrest or further court action. Reports also indicate that the scammers ask for a copy of a driver's licence and photo for 'identification purposes'. The NSW Police Force will never call a member of the public and demand payment over the phone in order to avoid going to court or being arrested. If you get an unexpected call from someone who states they're from the police, and starts asking for personal details or threatens you, don't pay any money or provide personal details and please HANG UP. If you’re concerned, you can always verify by contacting your local police or the Police Assistance Line directly on 131 444. 08.01.2022 SCAM ALERT Tips for buying and selling on community selling sites. There are a few community selling sites around where members of the public will list an ...item for sale for other community members to buy. Unfortunately scammers are all over these sites and many people are losing out big time after being scammed out of their property or money. Tips: 1. Be aware that scammers are using these sites if something feels ‘off’ be extra cautious proceeding with any transactions. 2. Insist on using reputable pay services such as PayPal. 3. Don’t automatically BELIEVE their copy of a transaction receipt. Many scammers are sending the sellers a receipt of payment that is fake, whilst insisting the seller sends the item straight away. ALWAYS confirm with your financial institution or PayPal on your end first that payment has gone through BEFORE sending your item to anyone. 4. When meeting someone who wants to purchase a vehicle and take it for a test drive, go along for the ride! You wouldn’t hand your keys over to any stranger on the street this is no different. Many cars are being stolen because the owners are letting potential ‘buyers’ drive away with their vehicles. Make sure you take a photo of their CURRENT drivers licence before you let them test drive your vehicle. 5. If you are meeting someone you have never met to sell or buy an item, arrange to do so in a public place. Even better, choose somewhere where you know there is CCTV footage. If you have been scammed, contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 (24/7) who will complete a fraud incident with you.
