25.01.2022 Work is continuing at the Nana Glen derailment. Contractors are delivering loads of gambion & road base to shore up the road below the rail line & allow access ...for salvage vehicles & cranes. Heavy machinery is being used to clear damaged rail line & freight containers. The two 400 tonne cranes that were delivered on site yesterday have commenced lifting the locomotive that fell on to its side. Thankfully rain has not fallen on the site today which will greatly assist the process. Residents & businesses on Morrows Road are hopeful that the rail line & road can get back to normal as soon as possible. Just a reminder that Morrows Road is closed at Palomino Drive and the roadblock is manned 24 hrs a day. Traffic on the road is heavy and the entire length of Morrows Road should be avoided unless you have a valid reason to be there. Thanks again to all contractors involved for their efforts. 18.01.2022 A draft housing strategy that outlines future options for increasing housing affordability and diversity in the Coffs Harbour region is to go to the NSW Government for approval. Earlier this year, Council exhibited the draft ‘Coffs Harbour Local Growth Management Strategy - Chapter 7 Residential Lands’, as well as two issues and options papers on ‘Affordable Housing’ and ‘Short Term Rental Accommodation’. The issue of affordable housing is a significant challenge in the region. Council is presently working with relevant bodies on a range of planning options to increase the supply of affordable housing. However, this is only one component of a complex issue. 16.01.2022 A pedestrian crossing has been installed between the terminal building and the main carpark at Coffs Harbour Airport to improve public safety and access for people with limited mobility. With fewer passengers and vehicles coming and going from the terminal due to COVID-19, we took the opportunity to address a long-standing safety issue over people crossing the road at multiple places, which has led to a number of near misses, said Glenn Robinson, Airport Manager. Grass and crop fires are the main concern in these locations for the summer months as the growth dries out in the warmer weather. WA has largely missed out on the rainfall in 2020 and conditions are very dry, with parts of the south and south west coasts expecting above normal fire conditions through summer. 11.01.2022 MOWING UPDATE: Council has engaged additional staff, equipment and contractors to keep up with moving needs as rain and hot weather has accelerated vegetation growth. Rain and wet grass slows the mowers and tractors down as the material clogs the machines. The recent weeks of relatively dry weather have helped, however the rain this week has again slowed operations. As residents will probably know, this summer has been NSW's wettest for nearly a decade and locally we have los...t half of the available mowing days. In heavy downpours mowing can't be done, and the most recent rain has again resulting in mowing be suspended due to flooding. December 2020, 476mm of rainfall resulting in 16 lost mowing days out of the 21 day work days available. January 2021, 264mm of rainfall resulting in effecting 11 mowing days out of the 21 day work days available. February 2021, 472mm of rainfall effecting 13 of the work days available . In rural areas, Council is mowing to provide safety for motorists/pedestrians. When we've caught up with the current backlog, normal rural mowing will resume. As always, we endeavour to do our best.

07.01.2022 Coffs Harbour Libraries would like to thank everyone for their continuing support for Wrap with Love during 2020. Your knitted and crocheted squares and blanket...s are going to such a worthwhile cause and are truly appreciated. As a side note, the Library will not be collecting any squares or blankets from the start of December until January the 18th, 2021, as the organisation in Sydney closes down for a break. We ask that you keep making them, but keep your squares/blankets at home, until we can collect them again. A huge thank you to Margaret Hivon, who continually spends her own time picking up all the donated squares and blankets and organises them to be shipped down to Wrap with Love in Sydney.

06.01.2022 A design by Mullaway artist Tulli Stevens that celebrates Gumbaynggirr culture has been chosen as the main design theme for the West Woolgoolga Sports Complex. The new community complex is going to be a focal point for the Northern Beaches and beyond and we wanted to ensure that the Gumbaynggirr heritage and culture of the region would be honoured in the design which is such an important part of the welcome of the new facility, said Coffs Harbour Mayor Councillor Denise Kni...ght. It’s wonderful that we were able to share this news during NAIDOC Week. Tulli Stevens won the commission with her work ‘Gawbarri’ which means ‘meet, get together, gather’ after Coffs Harbour City Council and the National Aboriginal Design Agency (NADA) collaborated on an Expression of Interest for an Aboriginal design.
