23.01.2022 So sad and frightening - it’s becoming more common.

22.01.2022 YOUR UNION HAS BEEN KICKING GOALS! Check out what we've been up to over the 2019-2020 financial year.

21.01.2022 Ain't nothin' scarier than 2020 has been! Happy Halloween everyone!

21.01.2022 Nurses and midwives have seen the worst of violence and PPE issues this past year. We'll continue to work hard to ensure your safety - both in and outside of work.

20.01.2022 That is a done deal

19.01.2022 Thank you Coffs Harbour nurses and midwives.

19.01.2022 You, the employees, are amazing and you so often go over and above to care for your residents. Thank you for the often-thankless work you do. Often in tough circumstances and, more recently, under the unfair intense stare of the media. We thank you for doing your BEST

19.01.2022 Brad and Gladys went for a nice low key visit to John Hunter Hospital today. Bad timing I would say.

18.01.2022 It’s worth watching. These amazing nurses in rural and remote areas. To add on these nurses with less medical dr support than our metro comrades also have less nurses than our metro nurses.

16.01.2022 Through COVID-19, your NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association has been busy delivering accurate, up to date information for our members across the state, in all sectors.

16.01.2022 "You hope you never have to use it, but it's always there behind you to back you up". Nurse Chris was involved in a motorcycle accident on the way to work, and had to have his leg amputated. Thankfully, he was an NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association member, and thanks to our Journey Accident Insurance, he was able to recoup $100,000 to assist with his recovery. It's so important to be a member of your association You can join here today: https://www.nswnma.asn.au/nswnmamembers/benefits/

15.01.2022 "In 2020, we marked one of the most difficult years for our profession" NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association General Secretary Brett Holmes shares his thanks for the tireless commitment of members through what has been a challenging year.

14.01.2022 Happy Labour day

14.01.2022 MESSAGE FROM BRETT HOLMES, GENERAL SECRETARY Today, the NSW Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) finally handed down its decision on the public sector wage fre...eze case your union has been fighting for months. They awarded you a 0.3% pay increase, backdated to 1 July 2020. Join me on Facebook Live tomorrow at 11am for more details. This decision is shocking and insulting. After relying on nurses and midwives so much through COVID-19, it’s clear the Berejiklian Government does not value the important work you do. You and your colleagues selflessly put your own safety at risk to navigate NSW through this pandemic and yet again, they expect you to do more for less. The Berejiklian Government's argument that public sector wages must be sacrificed to pay for construction works in NSW is insulting and out of touch. We should be spending on public health, not taking away from vital services at a time like this. Not only does this decision disrespect the work you do, it sends a message to future nurses and midwives entering the public health system that they are not valued by their employer. You deserve more support from this government. Governments in Victoria, Queensland and South Australia have all backed their nurses and midwives, passing on a well-deserved pay rise during this time. Yet NSW, the richest state in the country, is supporting hard hat projects instead. We won't take this lying down. We need to collectively demonstrate our anger and disgust and continue the campaign for safer staffing and ratios to ensure the future of our public health system. Despite the total disregard from this government, you should be proud of the difference you made. Local communities around the state, from Tweed Heads to Albury, have vehemently defended nurses and midwives and widespread support for our professions has grown as a result. Together, we: Convinced the Upper House to block the government's regulation to freeze public sector workers' wages. That, in itself, was a huge victory. Provided strong evidence that a pay rise will stimulate the economy across the State. Even the government acknowledged the freeze would deepen the recession in a document produced under our Summons. Got over 300 businesses statewide to sign up to our campaign and support a wage increase for nurses and midwives. Saw over 3,600 news stories on our wage freeze campaign run across print, TV, radio and online. Sent over 15,000 emails to local MPs and Upper House crossbenchers. Collected almost 400 selfies on our photo petition. The Berejiklian Government has frozen your wages, but they can't continue to ignore the fact our public hospitals need more nurses and midwives to deliver safe patient care. Our claim for nurse-to-patient ratios was put to the government in April and they rejected it. There are still no legally enforceable minimum staffing levels in many clinical settings. We need shift-by-shift nurse-to-patient-ratios as a bare minimum to provide safe patient care. Let's continue to campaign with our communities for better wages and conditions so the government has no choice but to deliver on safe staffing. Yours Sincerely, BRETT HOLMES General Secretary, NSWNMA

13.01.2022 "There's inadequate staffing and inadequate resourcing" The people of rurla and regional NSW have been left out in the cold by this Government when it comes to healthcare. We're backing calls for an inquiry to help address these issues. Via 9 News Illawarra

12.01.2022 Through COVID-19, your @NSW Nurses and Midwives' Association has been in overdrive to deliver for members.

12.01.2022 Thank you to all our Community Nurses. You change lives in so many ways.

12.01.2022 QNMU member and RN Rachael Johnson has a rare form of dwarfism and was diagnosed with renal failure at a young age. She shares her inspiring story with us on In...ternational Day of People with Disability - Australia. "I spent four years on dialysis before receiving a kidney transplant when I was seven years old. Because of this experience I knew I wanted to become a nurse and repay the people who had made such a difference to my life. However, things weren’t plain sailing. I was belittled by nursing facilitators and repeatedly told that a nursing course was not suitable for me and I should go and find something you can do. But my desire to become a nurse held strong. I worked tirelessly and qualified as a paediatric nurse in 2009. I may not be able to reach the top shelf in the store cupboard, but I can empathise fully with the patients in my care. I am living proof that you should never let anyone stop you from fulfilling your dreams."
