25.01.2022 ANZAC Day (April 25th) marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War During my... own studies to learn more about WW1 i came across this documentary 2018 documentary film: They Shall Not Grow Old. Directed by New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson Peter Jackson directs this homage to the British troops of the First World War with never-before-seen-footage of soldiers as they faced the fear and uncertainty of frontline battle in Belgium. Digitally remastered and now in colour, the footage has been studied by lip reading experts whose transcripts were recorded and used as audio for the film. Overlayed by a narrative of those who partook in the war from interviews made in the 1960s and 1970s. At the time of it’s release, the historic revisiting marks one hundred years since the end of the Great War. The film is brutal and a emotional watch. The hardest part is not witnessing the blood and gore but more so seeing a reflection of ourselves in these young men as they ‘simply got on with the job’. They Shall Not Grow Old pays brilliant cinematic tribute to the sacrifice of a generation. If anyone is looking for something to watch in the lead up to ANZAC Day, the film is currently streaming on Netflix -Bonnie

14.01.2022 Better sleuths than us have concluded that this was taken on ANZAC Day in Woy Woy sometime after the 1952 Vanguard Standard was released, but before the march to celebrate the electrification of the railway line on 23rd January 1960.
