22.01.2022 Hi all, just a friendly reminder that our next meeting is tomorrow at 11am at Colac Neighborhood house. Looking forward to seeing you there.

20.01.2022 Congratulations Dr Joosup Kim, Monash University for being awarded a $50K grant from Stroke Foundation for your project: Understanding long term community suppo...rt provided by primary care. This year we have specifically focused on improving stroke survivor’s quality of life by better supporting carers. Dr Joosup Kim said, There has been limited research undertaken on the management of patients with stroke in primary care after they are discharged to the community. In this project, we will be investigating the quality of care provided by general practitioners to patients with stroke once they are discharged from hospital. By connecting information collected in hospital and in general practices, we will be able to examine gaps in the continuity of care. http://bit.ly/39E9wkx #fightstroke

07.01.2022 If you or a loved one had a stroke 30 years ago, the chances of returning to the life you knew were slim. But that is not always the case anymore. With the righ...t treatment at the right time, it is possible for some to make a good recovery. With a new year underway, it’s a fitting opportunity to look back on how far we have come in stroke treatment and care as a nation. Medical diagnosis and treatment have become much more advanced in the past two decades. There has been a significant reduction in lives lost as a result. In addition, the number of patients being treated in a dedicated stroke unit has increased. So too has access to rehabilitation and carer training. There has been increased recognition that stroke’s impact extends beyond the physical to mental health. Together these steps help maximise quality of life and independence after stroke. While much has been achieved, there is still a lot more to be done in 2020 and beyond. We know our regional patients have limited access to well established standard treatments. It doesn’t need to be this way. There is huge potential for telehealth to remove geographical barriers to stroke treatments and boost the capacity of our regional health services and clinicians. We must ensure all Australians have equitable access to these innovations to maximise their benefit. Finally, we know that FAST treatment underpins these advances, let’s make it a priority to ensure every Australian household can recognise the signs of a stroke. Team Stroke

04.01.2022 Research Grant news: University of Newcastle researcher Emily Ramage is ‘Taking stroke prevention to the loungeroom’ through a Stroke Foundation $50K grant. htt...p://bit.ly/2VockhO #WooHoo Excitingly, people will be able to tap into technology at home to access an exercise and diet program, aimed at preventing a secondary stroke. Emily says, We know survivors of stroke often have very low levels of physical activity and need more than just advice to help them make and maintain lifestyle changes. The beauty of the ENAbLE Pilot Randomised Controlled Trial program is they will not be alone. Health professionals will provide support and supervision online to keep them on track and improve their diet or activity levels. The aim is to bring support from the consult room to the living room bringing health care to you! #fightstroke

02.01.2022 Awesome to hear such encouraging results from Melbourne’s Mobile Stroke Unit aka stroke ambulance in the first 2 years on the road. Results show reduced treatme...nt times, more people treated in the first hour and improved outcomes. #goldenhour Thank you to all the amazing people who gave to this fantastic project. Nearly 10,000 people donated the half a million dollars needed to buy the CT scanner for the ambulance. A superhuman effort from our donors, whose support is saving people’s lives.
