13.01.2022 Residents in Colac, Gellibrand, Kawarren and Barongarook may see and smell smoke from a planned burn that will be ignited today north-west of Gellibrand. This ...is an asset protection planned burn in Otway Forest Park and is 370 hectares in size. It is focussed on reducing the spread and intensity of potential bushfires approaching Gellibrand and Colac. Forest Fire Management Victoria crews will carry out the five-day operation along Gordons Track, near Tomahawk Creek. This is the first in a series of large planned burns around Gellibrand to take place over the coming months, weather permitting. Under the current public health advice, planned burning is continuing across Victoria. During the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we continue to work closely with the Department of Health and Environment Protection Authority to ensure we keep the smoke impacts from planned burning as low as practically possible. Crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state. To find out when and where planned burns are happening near you, go to or sign up at www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226.
