24.01.2022 Dear Church members and friends, Please note that from this Sunday, 29.11.20 (Advent 1), we are allowed 50 persons to attend Sunday Worship in person at Colac Uniting Church. There are still social distancing requirements and we will need to wear masks indoors. We will continue to livestream our services to YouTube, which is also accessible through our Colac UC Facebook page. On behalf of Colac Church Council, I extend to you all a very warm welcome back to Church, especiall...y if you are returning this Sunday for the first time. We will still need you to please register your attendance at the Church office, by phone on: 5232 1360 or by email at: [email protected]. Please register your attendance by 1.00pm Friday 27.11.20. We don't expect to have more than 50 but we need to follow the regulations. If you do register to attend but then later change your mind, it would be great if you could also call the office before 9.00am Sunday to tell us. Just leave a message that you are no longer coming. This is just in case we have a couple of unexpected visitors turning up on Sunday. We would love them to attend too, provided this is possible. Our worship leader this Sunday is Miss Glen Mitchelson. Rev Mele and I will be visiting family in Sydney this weekend, now that the borders have reopened, but we will be back in Colac on Monday.

20.01.2022 Update Messy Church at Home in Colac in Spring 2020. Show and share spring flowers to share Gods care.

20.01.2022 Colac's resident organist, Mike Holland, recently shared a these thoughts from Bill Pugh, former UCA minister at Apollo Bay. Psalm 150, a Psalm of Praise, urges the congregation to praise God with music and dancing. A variety of instruments make up the Temple orchestra and the praise must be loud. With respect, I would like to add the organ. Some would include others. Organists are hard to find and encourage today. True, all kinds of musical instruments can contribute to wor...ship. We should not forget the organ which sets the tone of a service, from joyous praise and thanksgiving to solemn meditation. Wonderful spiritual therapy. It allows us to celebrate, express our grief, and unites us as one in worship. Sometimes an organist will accompany a country minister to outlying preaching places. Pity the organist and the minister’s wife who suffer the same sermon more than once on the same day. Great composers have written wonderful works for the organ. Very talented organists play them. Sunday by Sunday our church organists assist our praise. I want to mention just one, representative of many. In a country preaching place he began playing the organ when he was 10, had 4 years leave of absence during the war, and finished when he died in his 80s. Sunday by Sunday, he played the old pedal organ. The vase of fresh flowers on top rocked when he pedalled loud praise. You quoted a line and he gave you the number of the hymn in the AHB. Some hymns were out as the organ did not play B Flat. Praise God for all who provide music for worship! For all serve the One: Alpha and Omega he! Let the organ thunder, while the choir with peals of glee doth rend the air asunder. (Anon., 15th cent .tr. Percy Dearmer 18671936). Reflection. Lord thank you for the dedication of all musicians and choristers who give so much to our songs of praise. Amen Bill Pugh See more

13.01.2022 A new report from the UK with some good insights: The Disciples Together report calls for five cultural shifts in the church: 1. Viewing children and young peo...ple as active participants and pilgrims A shift from viewing children and young people as a problem/deficit/challenge to children and young people as active participants and pilgrims. 2. Engaging with children, young people and families intergenerationally A shift from running separate programmes to living intergenerationally. 3. Being intentional disciple makers A shift from vague influencers to intentional disciple makers. 4. Enabling those engaging with children and young people to be called, formed and equipped ministers A shift from pressed volunteers and workers to called and formed ministers. 5. Being the change we want to see A shift from an adults-only Church to an all-age community of grace. See more details here: https://www.oxford.anglican.org/five-cultural-shifts-need/
