24.01.2022 Great to have a Sealed Runway at YOLA especially in these wet Winters. Thanks to the Hon. Gordon Rich-Phillips and Regional Aviation Fund, 2013/14

23.01.2022 Colac Aerodrome, where anything's possible! Just need to use you're imagination. Story as published in the Colac Herald, Wednesday Jan.6th 2016 A group of 16 Colac and district friends chartered two small planes to take them from Irrewarra Airfield, east of Colac, to King Island for a New Year’s Eve holiday. A COLAC man says more people could use Irrewarra Airfield, east of Colac, as a departure point for their next domestic holiday.... Wayne Mackrell and his friends chartered an eight-seater and ten-seater plane from Melbourne’s Moorabbin Airport to take them from Irrewarra Airfield to Tasmania’s King Island. The group of 16 Colac friends took a four-day holiday to King Island for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The beauty of it is we wanted to show people you can actually fly out of Irrewarra Airfield, Mr Mackrell said. We’d been to King Island before and one of our friends was very involved in one of the golf courses over there so we thought we’d all go over and have a look. They flew in from Moorabbin to Colac, waited for us, loaded us up and looked after us and flew us to King Island. The friends spent their holiday eating crayfish, playing golf and watching horse races at the King Island Racing Club on New Year’s Day before returning to Colac. Mr Mackrell said he saw helicopters using the airfield when he visited for his flight. The pilots were ready and waiting for us but there was so much activity out there at the time with the helicopters, he said. It was a real treat and a real adventure for us. Mr Mackrell said he had a hassle-free experience and other groups should utilise our airport by making inquiries to independent charter planes. We left all our cars out there and everything was there waiting for us when we got home, he said. It was fabulous, I recommend it to anybody.

20.01.2022 We support alternative energy, though placement of wind towers sometimes leaves a little to be desired. Erecting wind towers on rising ground in conflict with aircraft flight paths for takeoff and landing just doesnt work !!! Support Cobden Aerodrome and Cobden Aero Club next Saturday 16th by attending Cobden Aero Club BBQ.

17.01.2022 One of many larger aircraft we accomodate at YOLA Pilatus PC12

17.01.2022 It’s that time of year again, the weather has improved markedly over the past month, flying activity has increased substantially. Committee of Management and Colac Aero Club Members have been busy mowing and tidying up at the airfield. The place is looking fabulous. The grass runway 18/36 has been mowed a few times, crosses removed and runway reopened for use after the wet winter.

17.01.2022 KEEP OFF THE GRASS All Grass Areas are wet due to above average rainfall throughout May and now the usual Winter weather for the next few months. Maybe not quite as wet as in the photo below!... On RWY 09/27 roll out to the ends and turn around where there are turning circles or risk getting bogged on Runway edge soft surfaces. KEEP OFF THE GRASS. Safe Flying.

16.01.2022 All GRASS areas are now quite wet due to recent rains. Please avoid all movement on grass areas and avoid possible aircraft damage. 18/36 grass runway is CLOSED. Crosses are at threshold 18/36... Runways 09 and 27 are sealed and suitable for wet weather ops, as are taxiways and aircraft parking apron. Assess the x-wind before use. Safe Flying !

08.01.2022 Colac Municipal Aerodrome has introduced compulsory landing fees, now only $10 per engine, collected by AVDATA. Due to the requirement of sustainable financial management along with planned further infrastructure improvements we have made this difficult choice. We appreciate your visiting Colac and hope you will continue to support our user friendly airfield. Safe Flying Colac Municipal Aerodrome Committee of Management

05.01.2022 Runway Markings completed today. 09/27 - numbers, centreline and piano keys. Looking Good !!

04.01.2022 Seems to have been some misunderstanding regards landing fees at YOLA. Landing fees are charged at one landing per hour so if you fly in and fly six, eight or even ten landings in an hour you will only be charged for the first landing in that hour.
