15.01.2022 January 28 1986 C.B.S. Face Replay In Senior Cup St.John's Ballyfermot 3 C.B.S. Tullamore 3 St. John's Ballyfermot snatched a late equaliser to deprive the visiting Tullamore C.B.S. of victory in the first round of the Leinster Senior Cup. The game was played at a tremendous pace. C.B.S. were in control early on but the first clear chance fell to Ballyfermot in the 18th minute. Terry Shiel pulled off a tremendous save but was injured in the process. The game was held up for 5... minutes while he received treatment. Within 2 minutes of the resumption Ballyfermot took the lead when the still shake Terry failed to reach a cross and the rebound from the crossbar was tapped home. C.B.S. scored a deserved equaliser 5 minutes from half time. Mark Plunkett found Alan Cunningham, who drew the keeper before passing to Paul Jordan who found the net. Mark Plunkett gave C.B.S. the lead 5 minutes into the second half .Mark chested the ball down to Paul Jordan and was then on hand to stroke the return pass to the net. Ballyfermot equalised 9 minutes later through an excellent header. Both teams had opportunities to take the lead but the rival keepers made excellent saves. Alan Cunningham had what seemed a legitimate goal disallowed when Eamon Whitney was penalised for a nudge on a defender. This would have been the goal of the game as Alan found the net from well outside the penalty area. C.B.S. regained the lead in the 31st minute when Joe Moran headed home from a corner. Tullamore seemed to have the game under control but the Ballyfermot substitute found the net 1 minute from time. 14.01.2022 February 1986 Leinster Senior Cup First Round Replay C.B.S. Tullamore 3 St.John's Ballyfermot 3 after extra time Penalties St.John's 5 Tullamore C.B.S. 3... St.John's advanced to the second round of the Leinster Senior Cup by snatching victory from Tullamore C.B.S. in this replay. Tullamore were in control throughout the first half and took a deserved lead in the 28th minute. Alan Cunningham sent over an excellent cross that Paul Jordan shot home. However Ballyfermot equalised on the stroke of half time. St.John's took the lead in the 21st minute of the second half but it was short lived. C.B.S. equalised within four minutes. Noel O' Connor completely mystified the St. John's keeper by bending the ball around a well formed wall. There was no more scoring and the game went to 10 minutes each way extra time. C.B.S. snatched an early lead 3 minutes into extra time. A cross from Paul Brennan that was struck well by Paul Jordan, was saved by the keeper. The clearance was picked up by Noel O' Connor who scored with an excellent shot. . However 4 minute later Ballyfermot equalised once again. There was no more scoring so the game went to penalties. St.John's put away their 5 shots with authority while The C.B.S. fourth attempt was saved. 14.01.2022 February 1986 Leinster Senior Plate Round 1 C.B.S. Tullamore 1 Drimnagh Castle Dublin 1 After Extra Time C.B.S. Tullamore were only 30 seconds away from the second round in the Leinster Senior Plate. This was their third cup draw in a row , in the space of a few weeks... .The game was played in a freezing gale force wind which totally spoiled the first half. Drimnagh elected to play to play into the wind but neither side could cope with the conditions. Tullamore continuously hit the ball too long and their forwards got nothing to work with. Things improved in the second half. The Tullamore forwards received a lot more ball and their efforts were rewarded as early as the 6th minute when Paul Brennan found the net. Eamon Whitney had the ball in the net but the referee called back play for a Tullamore free, saying the whistle had gone before Eamon scored. Finally with 30 seconds remaining , Drimnagh cleared from a Tullamore throw and swept up field to give Terry Shiel no chance in goal. The game entered 10 mins each way extra time but there was no further scoring. The closest being when Paul Jordan broke through and rounded the last Drimnagh defender only for the keeper to make the save.
