25.01.2022 Another $20k to go

24.01.2022 We hope this update finds you well and that the mums out there were celebrated and looked after this Mother’s Day. It has been an exciting week, with just over half of your pledges now confirmed as investments and the money deposited! Thank you! We would love to see the majority of pledges fulfilled by May 18th so that we can keep moving forward with the projected timeline. The board will begin following up on pledges from this evening, so if you have yet to deposit your inve...stment, you should expect to hear from Matt soon. To complete the process, please refer to the personalised email you should have received from our accountant Brent (GMG Finance) over the Easter weekend, which included copies of the Disclosure Statement and Rules of the Co-op along with instructions for making your investment. If you did not receive the email or need a new copy emailed or posted, please get in touch with us and we can get the information to you. The Steering Group held the Formation Meeting on Friday 1st May via Zoom and adopted the Rules of the Co-op, the Disclosure Statement, and voted in the board members (as stated in the Disclosure Statement). Over the weekend, the board had the arduous task of taste-testing coffee for a potential contract with the store. This would include a pretty wizz-bang coffee machine that we look forward to sharing with you once details are confirmed! We have loved all of the feedback and questions we have had so far keep them coming! We encourage any questions or concerns about pledges and the co-operative in general to be submitted by emailing [email protected] or phoning Brent (50329422) or Matt (0424 567 133). Thanks again to everyone who has submitted their investments so far, we look forward to updating you with what’s happening next.

21.01.2022 Keep spreading the word! thank you!

20.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who has fulfilled their pledge commitment to the Colbinabbin General Store Co-op so far! We are encouraged by the number of people who have already delivered on their pledge amount, but there is still a way to go to reach the number of investments we need to purchase the store. We are so excited to make this a reality and the sooner you make your investment, the sooner the co-op can purchase the store and provide the community with the store we want and... need. So, this is a friendly reminder to get your investments in as soon as possible to make this happen! Those who have pledged, but have yet to invest will be contacted by the committee next week to follow up. The Colbinabbin General Store Co-op Steering Committee has scheduled the co-operative formation meeting for this Friday the 1st of May. Due to current conditions of Covid-19, the meeting will be conducted online via Zoom. This meeting will involve voting on the Rules of the co-operative and the Disclosure Statement as well as voting to elect the board of directors. We encourage any questions or concerns about the formation meeting or the co-operative in general to be submitted prior to Friday the 1st of May to ensure the steering committee can address any urgent matters prior to formation if necessary. Please do so by commenting on this post, sending a direct message to this facebook page, emailing [email protected], or phoning Brent (50329422) or Matt (0424 567 133) We look forward to next updating you as a formed and official co-operative committee!

10.01.2022 What a beautiful post - thank you

09.01.2022 Things have been a little quiet on the Colbinabbin General Store Co-op project while we were waiting for document approval from Consumer Affairs and adjusting to this new world we have found ourselves in. In the midst of this unease, we feel privileged to offer some good news to you all and announce that Consumer Affairs Victoria have approved the Co-op Rules and Disclosure Statement and given us the go-ahead in forming our co-operative! This is tremendous news as it demons...trates that Consumer Affairs is confident in our ability to make this co-operative a success. We understand that the future may seem a little uncertain at the moment, but the steering committee are eager to continue with this project because we passionately believe that now more than ever, we need a shop that can service our community not only for our day to day needs but also in extraordinary times. By making a pledge you expressed your belief in the importance of our community’s general store and we hope that we can count on you to honour your pledge amount and invest in our town's future. To do this you will need to complete the Share Application form and deposit your money in order to finalise your investment in the Co-op. Bank account details and copies of the Co-op Rules and the Disclosure Statement have been emailed to those that have indicated their interest by pledging. As the Co-operative has not yet held its Formation Meeting (and therefore is not yet legally registered as a co-operative), we do not yet have an official bank account. Instead the investments are held in a Trust Account managed by GMG Financial, as is standard protocol, so don’t feel uneasy about making this transaction to an unfamiliar account. Please take the time to read the Co-op Rules and Disclosure Statement before completing the Share Application form and if you have any questions, please feel free to direct them to Brent (GMG Financial Group) or a member of the Steering Committee. As we all tackle these extraordinary times, we hope you are keeping well and staying safe.

08.01.2022 The Colbinabbin General Store Co-op project is going ahead despite the current difficulties our community is facing, both locally and worldwide. We started on this journey more than 6 months ago, before the world got tipped on its head. Our project was already poised to become an incredibly important asset to our community, now it will be even more vital in the face of adversity. Through this co-operative project, we want to create a positive and uplifting story of people com...ing together to achieve something the whole community will benefit from. A community-owned store that will help localise our economy; providing a platform for local produce to be purchased locally, with the profits going back into the community. To reach this goal, we can’t lose sight of what’s important. Stay safe, but keep connecting with each other; keep communicating, smiling, laughing, and supporting one another. Let’s band together and look after each other - because we are a community.

06.01.2022 For a lot of us, Colbinabbin has always had an old slow-town feel to it. And that’s part of what makes it so special. We don’t want to lose that, but we are aiming to bring our infrastructure up to speed so that we can showcase our old-world charm in a new era. These pictures might help you visualise what this could look like if we continue receiving community support. The general store pictured (in Dederang, in the Kiewa Valley), used to look very similar to our own Colbo ...Store. The place was looking tired, showing its age and it needed a big injection of capital and TLC. The current owners Ross and Craig have done an amazing job of bringing their store up to new-world standard, while still keeping true, rustic charm. They also started out with a strong business plan, as we will, and have surpassed their own expectations, though not without hard work and a lot of time and care. This is what we hope to achieve in Colbo. Our venture will start quite differently - as a community-owned cooperative, but we believe in time it can and will reach these heights. We believe it because we know Colbo is a little town with a big heart, and it just keeps giving - but this time it’s going to give back to itself. Please help make this dream a reality for all of us by pledging today. We achieved our target last weekend of $400,000 in pledges - this was to ensure we had enough community support to officially begin our co-operative, but we need a lot more if we are to have a smooth and vibrant start to this brave venture. Pledging is a small leap of faith, but rest assured our business plan will be in your hands before any money exchanges hands. And remember, this may be a little town but it has a big, big heart. #colbo Email us at: [email protected]

04.01.2022 Colbinabbin General Store Co-op Steering Committee is thrilled to announce that we have been successful in negotiating an agreement for purchase of the Colbo General Store! The agreement remains informal at this stage, but with our current number of pledges and community support, the steering committee feel confident moving ahead with the project. Thank you to everyone who has pledged so far. We couldn't have gotten to this stage without your support.... It is important to note that many more pledges are still needed to make our general store a success and the community will continue to be called upon to help make this a reality. Stay posted and we will continue to keep you updated on what is to come.
