20.01.2022 Its not just children who have incorrect inhaler techniques...many adults do not use their inhalers correctly and therefore need to overuse their inhalers. If your symptoms are not being relieved or prevented by your inhalers, or you have frequent flare ups, then it may be your technique that needs checking. Or you may require a different preventer/reliever for better asthma control. Either way make an appointment with your GP to have a full Asthma Review.

The tests most commonly used to aid in early detection of prostate cancer are a blood test for prostate specific antigen (PSA) and the digital rectal examination. ... Prostate Cancer symptoms: The symptoms can include frequent urination (particularly at night), pain on urination, blood in the urine, a weak stream or flow that stop/starts. There are no proven measures to prevent prostate cancer but early detection is the key. So make sure you or your partner has regular health checks and if experiencing any of these symptoms get it checked by your GP.

15.01.2022 Most Cervical Cancers are caused by a type of sexually transmitted virus known as HPV - human papillomavirus. This virus can lay dormant in the body and not cause problems until years later. If you are over the age of 18 (or within two years of becoming sexually active) you should have a regular Pap test every 2 years to check for the HPV virus and any abnormal cells. And if you have any of the below symptoms you should see your GP for a check and rule out your risks. As with all cancers early detection is the key

14.01.2022 Immunizatioin is a fundamental strategy in achieving overall health, from preventing/controlling viral diseases, to curbing antimicrobial resistance (as fewer antibiotics need to be prescribed with better health and fewer illnesses requiring treatment), to providing a platform for adolescent health and improving antenatal and newborn care, as well as the aged population. Vaccination works best when supported by the majority.

Speak to your GP or pharmacist and get your inhaler technique checked and breathe easy this winter.

12.01.2022 Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. The majority of skin cancers are caused by exposure to the sun, and the risks increase as you get older. In Australia, 1 in 8 adults and 1 in 5 teenagers are sunburnt on an average summer weekend while enjoying outdoor activities. Yet many don't realise that sun exposure that doesn't result in burning can still cause damage to skin cells and increase your risk of skin cancer. So being SunSmart is just as imp...ortant in the cooler months. So stay SunSmart all year round and get your skin checked regularly by your GP or skin specialist. The sooner a skin cancer is identified and treated, the better your chance of avoiding major surgery or other treatments as well as helping prevent the spread to other major organs. If you are concerned about any changes in your skin, moles or discolouration then make an appointment and come and see us for a Skin check. 97390201

01.01.2022 Asthmatics are at an increased risk of respiratory illnesses, including the Flu and pneumonia. The Australian National Centre for Disease Control recommends that all asthmatics over the age of 2 years of age receive the Flu Vaccine to protect them against the Flu and its complications. The CDC also recommends that all asthmatics over the age of 19 also receive the pneumococcal vaccine to protect them further against the pneumococcal pneumonia. Call Coldstream Family Practice on 97390201 to make an appointment for vaccinations or to discuss with Dr Cyril whether you think is appropriate for you.

01.01.2022 Research shows that up to 90% of Australians with a respiratory condition are not using their inhaler devices correctly. Incorrect use means the medication is not being effectively delivered where its required and therefore symptoms are not being relived or treated leading to an increase in respiratory issues. Having regular checks with your GP to monitor the effectiveness of your inhaler is important as is getting your GP or pharmacist to check whether you are using your inhaler correctly. In conjunction with having an Asthma Action Plan you are well on your way to better respiratory health and ensuring the reduction of respiratory complications.
