23.01.2022 Cheryl commenting. Since our annual 5 day workshop I have been busy in my own studio experimenting with new techniques. This week monoprinting with tissue papers and intaglio inks which I plan to embed into some cold wax paintings. The hotbox will be in full swing next. I plan to draw on the plate with some R&F oil sticks and wax blocks, print them onto rice papers, then collage into my cold wax paintings. I'm working with friend Julie this week. It is nice sometimes to share the studio with another artist. Bouncing ideas around and sharing is fun.

19.01.2022 Art is Risky. Generous. Courageous. Provocative. You can be perfect, or you can make art. You can keep track of what you will get in return for your effort, or you can make art. You can enjoy the status quo, or you can make art.

06.01.2022 What's on the wall today? Nothing stuck down. Contemplating. More ideas. Do you notice that when you take a leap to do something different, then it's quickly fo...llowed by more new ideas? It's the drawing, tearing and reconstructing that's got me going!! Thanks @lewisnoble_artist for the early prompt. . #charcoal #charcoalandcoldwaxdrawing #drawing #blackandwhite #markmaking #coldwaxpainting #coldwaxmedium #collage #courage #risk #australianartist #kymbarrett #kymbarrettartist See more
05.01.2022 A little tip for fellow cold wax artists. I always seal my panels prior to applying gesso with Liquitex matt medium or Zinsser Bin Primer both are acid free and archival. I started using Liquitex medium after I noticed one of my very early encaustic paintings was fading and a yellow tinge was merging over the entire work. The glue (tannins) used in ply wood and mbf boards seeps through and changes the colour of your painting. So, if you want your works to last for many years, make sure you seal your timber substrates. I'm sure some of you use other products that are just as good. Just make sure they are acid free before using.
02.01.2022 Cheryl posting. I spent today preparing panels for our upcoming 'Abstract Painting with Cold Wax Medium' workshop. Not long now, only 9 more sleeps before we begin our 5 day creative journey at The Butter Factory Arts Centre.
