24.01.2022 So a piece of old wharf beam and some second hand red gum, equals a nice tilt lid box.

23.01.2022 Had a bit of time off, bathroom reno.. It's been a long time since I last did some wood turning, but with a new woodlathe in the workshop, yep time to reacquaint myself. Yey a couple of reasonable shapes...small platter with an oggee shape and a nut bowl. Next couple of small lidded boxes, the larger one of red gum and the smaller one Murry pine. Pretty happy with my first effort after such a long break.

23.01.2022 A roll top Document Box. Made from Some not tocommon now Red Pine. Turn of the 19 th century Edwardian homes all had Red Pine architrave and skirting boards. The roll top is made from reclaimed cedar shingles. New take on an old principal, pretty happy with the result...Enjoy.

21.01.2022 So this document box is made from rescued timber as usual. A small piece of Turpentine for the lid insert, some beautiful local Red Gum and good old fence palings for the side lining and timber hinges.... a beautifully featured Doc. Box

19.01.2022 So had some small bits of odd shaped raw edge red gum which needed to be given a home. Bit of an unusual shape with plenty of features. Looking good.

18.01.2022 So had a bit of fun with a very old Red Gum railway sleeper and the bandsaw. Played around with curves and straight cuts, keeping some of the external timber feature on the lids. Hey presto a couple of very nice sculptured bandsaw boxes.

18.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone...a few Christmas projects that made it out the door before the big boy arrived.

17.01.2022 So this bespoke jewelry box was commissioned by a friend of mine. The body of the box is made from an old red gum mantle piece, salvaged from a miners cottage undergoing a make over. The lid from reclaimed Blackwood, and the hidden draw is Huon pine. A beautiful jewelry box with plenty of character. Enjoy.

16.01.2022 So been a bit busy with Xmas Rush. This Red Gum keepsake/jewelry box commission has been delivered to its happy owner, ready for Santa. Lol.

11.01.2022 Oops missed this...

10.01.2022 So this little box in a box is a slightly different, made from reclaimed Red gum, Blackwood and a Murray pine panel, a prototype box playing with space. Mobile phone either side, and keys, watch or whatever in the middle. What do you think. Enjoy.

08.01.2022 Spring has sprung, new growth all around, things unfolding everywhere. Time to unfold something, have been moving this piece of unknown burl around the workshop for years..it's time. A simple bowl, a Bud Bowl maybe, a very special piece of timber, hope you like it. Enjoy.

08.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone, thanks for your interest and continued support throughout the year. Take care and be safe. Some Christmas boxes that found homes.

08.01.2022 So been out of action since Christmas, slowly back into it with some bandsaw boxes and smaller boxes, as I build up to normal strength. This bandsaw box is made from messmate and cedar, with black felt lining. ' Autumn leaves' Enjoy

06.01.2022 So bending wood it seems is a bit of a dark art. Thought I might give it a shot on a small scale. Sliced up some Blackwood into 1.5 strip, then soaked in water over night to soften the timber fibres. Next folded into a circle, small enough for my pot and boiled for 15 min. Remove from water and fold around circular molding and leave overnight. Removed clamps a left the now circular piece of timber to dry, that was the trickiest bit done Glued up with base, and some pins, lift top and there you go a small ring or trinket box. My Bentwood box.

06.01.2022 So still have some old Princess Pier Jarrah beam off cuts. Beautifully rich in history, character and unique features. Used a smallish off cut for this bandsaw box with three draws. A special little jewellery box, ( minnows). Enjoy.

05.01.2022 A beautiful Blackwood jewelry box for a long time special family friend. Two different types of Blackwood with some princess pier Jarrah lining and tray. Enjoy.

05.01.2022 So when making boxes, it's about creating space, surrounded by beauty, after all it's the space that makes a box useful...right. Lol. Thankfully I was introduced to the Japanese culture in my teens and visited Japan in 1975. So what is it I here you ask... my interpretation of an Inro- a small case carried from the Obi or belt for storing tea herbs tobacco, anything really . The Yellow bead is the Ojime and the end toggle is the Netsuke. Usually carving is involved , not there yet. Har. Enjoy.

04.01.2022 Been amiss with the posting, so hoping to do better in the future. This medium size mirror and single draw box is the first in a series of boxes involving the humble mirror. Made from old red gum sleeper, with Queensland raintree lid. You can find this at Artisans at the mill Woodend. Enjoy
