25.01.2022 If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen! To optimise your kitchen fully, some basic design principles need to be adhered to re: layout, lighting, ventilation etc. The main kitchen design principle used is called "The Kitchen Triangle".... Check out the example images of a Kitchen Triangle below. It's basically the distance from the fridge, the stove and the sink. If they're too far apart, the kitchen becomes unworkable, if they're too close, likewise they're unworkable. Kitchens are the most used space within the home so designing them correctly, is crucial. However they can also be a constant source of frustration if the basic design principles aren't achieved. To help you get it right, talk to us about our no obligation site consultation. https://collaborateconstruction.com.au/ #KitchenRenovation #HomeRenovation #KitchenRenovationBrisbane #Kitchendesign

14.01.2022 Have you considered or heard of double glazing? Most of us might have heard of double glazing, but how many of us know exactly what it is? ?... With double glazing, two panels of glass are used, instead of the commonly used one panel, to create an insulated glass unit, or IGU. The two panels are separated by a small space, between 6mm to 18mm, which can be filled with an insulating gas such as argon. ? Having double glazed windows installed in your home help with protecting the environment, provide benefits in acoustic performance and also energy efficiency. Double glazing windows are a tried and tested way of cutting down on the carbon footprint of your home while saving you money. ? Nearly half of Australian household energy goes to power heating and cooling appliances. The simple answer is it increases the energy efficiency of your home. So big picture, say that your double glazing lasts 20 years (although it should last much longer) and you save $250 a year. That means youll save $5,000 over the course of its lifetime on electricity. #DoubleGlazingWindows #CollaborateConstruction

14.01.2022 Whether its for constructing a new addition, building a deck or creating a piece of furniture, wood is the go-to material in general. Nevertheless, many traditional wood products have environmental and structural disadvantages. Wood is known to shrink under certain circumstances, swell and deteriorate, and, unless properly treated, develops biological diseases and fungi. Plenty of creative alternatives are available. Here are 2 sampling of wood alternatives: ... Wood Composites are composite materials which combines wood with recycled plastics or other components in order to provide a more durable and in some cases even cheaper commodity. Wood composites require virtually no finishing, staining or maintenance, and are made to last. This is mostly used for decking. Stone has been an ancient material for building houses. Stone is still used today for its amazing isolating properties, which during the hot summer months prove to be extremely useful. In addition, stones are a very strong and long lasting material that gives strength and resistance to many biological factors, such as mold. #WoodAlternatives #CollaborateConstruction

12.01.2022 Soil Tests ... What are they? Why are they important? Why they can have a big impact on your home construction?... Soil types are classified, as per the table below, from least to most reactive. What does that mean? The soil moves, expands and contracts a little or a lot! The Soil Classification is an important factor in the construction design as this is how the engineer will determine what foundation is to be used for that area and that soil type. As soil testing is mandatory, the contractor will request a soil test on your property in the location where the home will be constructed. This will be performed by a specialised contractor that is licensed to carry out this work and interpret the data. The good news is, if the results show that you are building your new home on soil base with minimum movement, it will help you save money, however, the costs for construction of the foundations may increase if the soil testing shows that the site is highly reactive or has moderate to high movement. Click on the link to see the Soil Classification table on our website (https://collaborateconstruction.com.au/free-resources/). The further down the table from Soil/Site Class A, the foundation costs will increase. #HomeConstruction #soilclassification #homeconstructionbrisbane #collaborateconstruction

11.01.2022 Your bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your home. Not only is it a room you use every day, but bathrooms, along with kitchens, are among the most important rooms buyers look at when you are selling your home. Here are some important things to consider when renovating your Bathroom: 1. - Light is the most important element in bathroom design. After that, the creation of a feeling of space and then thirdly the use of beautiful items such as tiles, sinks an...d baths. If light is not an option, a dramatic or beautiful tile is important as a feature. 2. - Larger tiles will typically give a sense of space even in a smaller bathroom, contrasting the floor tile and wall tile with light and dark is a great way to make a space feel bigger than it is. If you have a larger bathroom, running the floor tile up a wall all the way to the ceiling can again make the room feel larger and bring a sense of opulence into the space. 3. ? - A bath is considered an essential item in a family home so is normally included in the design of the master bathroom, however many homes are now excluding the bath as modern families tend towards the shower as the preferred way to wash their children. 4. - Consider installing a vanity with drawer storage rather than doors. Drawers are easier to access and easier to organise. They can be cut out around the plumbing and can be extra-large to accommodate large items. 5. - Once you have determined the size range you can fit into your bathroom space, you can narrow down the style of vanity to fit your homes dcor and your personal taste. Remember, sometimes less is more. If you have a smaller space, just because you can fit a larger vanity, will it be disproportionate to the rest of the room? 6. - Even if youre planning a small-scale makeover or tackling some of the renovation yourself, consult a professional. Professionals know what your budget can buy, and they provide solid advice on how to save and where to splurge. 7. - Whatever you do, when designing the bathroom, ensure that all elements work together. The decor in the bathroom works best when the taps match the mixers, and the shower and the style suits the vanity etc. You can check out our websites gallery page for images where we have collaborated with our clients on their bathroom renovation at https://collaborateconstruction.com.au/gallery/ #bathroomrenovation #bathroomrenovationbrisbane #collaborateconstruction

08.01.2022 In this changing world as a society, we want to be as inclusive as possible. This means any place and service open to the public should be open to people with disabilities. People with disabilities should expect to be able to access and make use of public places. Making someones life easier has huge benefits both mentally, emotionally and financially. Having an accessible facility for all people will certainly be beneficial as you know that your place isnt excluding people ...with disability from opportunities that other members of the community take for granted. Its also important for businesses not to overlook these consumers as they may be missing out on a significant customer base, as well as potentially breaching anti-discrimination laws. One of the challenges we face is that there are limitations in all areas of life, whether thats accessing the property we live in, using the restroom or trying to get to work etc. We work with disability access consultants to fully achieve an accessible place for people with disability and achieve accessibility compliance. Working with a disability access consultant can help by specifying the necessary legislation applicable to the project, where design changes are needed, where potential design variation could save costs or enhance access for all. As we work in both the residential and commercial space we are fully aware of the requirements of AS 1428.1-2009 Design for access and mobility. This Standard specifies the design requirements for new building work, as required by the National Construction Code of Australia (NCC) and the Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards (Premises Standards), to provide access for people with disabilities. We, at Collaborate Construction, ensure the design is right from the start and then construct to that design ensuring a smooth, compliant project at completion. https://collaborateconstruction.com.au/ #disabilityaccess #accessibility #CollaborateConstruction

05.01.2022 , , , , & . Are you really ready to have family & friends over for ? Prepare for your next gathering/event by having an amazing outdoor deck. Although timber has traditionally been used for decking boards, the general upkeep and maintenance required every 6 months is turning many people to use the more modern alternative composite boards because you want to spend more time relaxing on your deck, not more time m...aintaining your deck. Composite boards are a product where glue, dye and wood chips are all compressed and made to look like natural decking boards. They are straight have a non fade colour and come in standard uniform lengths. There are a number of manufacturers, Trex, Modwood, Ultradeck, Ekodeck to name a few. All they require from a maintenance perspective is a wash down when required. Composite decking boards and fixings may cost more but the installation time is less so the costs are typically offset. We recommend to all our clients to use composite timber boards. Contact us and lets talk about how we can help you have an outstanding deck! https://collaborateconstruction.com.au/ #HappyAustraliaDay #DeckingTimber #CollaborateConstruction

05.01.2022 The depth of the floor cabinet must be measured so that it includes the thickness of the door and drawer front, but excludes the door handles. Below are some of the basic measurements and standard dimensions relating to the size of floor cabinets in kitchens:... - The depth of floor-based cabinets should be around 600mm - The height of kickboards beneath the bottom of the cabinets should ideally be between 100mm and 200mm - The total height of kitchen cabinets to the top of the bench should be between 850mm and 1000mm with the standard being 900mm Wall cabinets vary in size. When installing them, you need to take into account ceiling height, bulkhead and clearances between hot plates and exhausts. Like floor cabinets, the depth of wall cabinets is measured so that it includes the thickness of the door and drawer fronts, but not door handles. - Wall cabinets should be between 300mm and 450mm deep (although they can be deeper) -Inside clear cabinet, depth should be 280mm - Cabinets should be built to withhold the weight of all cabinet contents, from books to cutlery - Cabinets should be securely fixed to the wall to be able to hold anticipated loads In principle, the optimal height for high cabinets is 2100mm but consideration must be given again to ceiling height and realistic access. Having full-height cabinets is becoming more common. The height can be determined by adding the height of the floor unit, the thickness of the benchtop, the height of the splashback and the height of the wall unit to the height of the other cabinets. It should also be noted that pantries have a standard height of 1990mm and a depth of 580mm - although this can be customised. #KitchenRenovation #KitchenRenovationPrinciples #KitchenRenovationBrisbane .

04.01.2022 When choosing your new kitchen or kitchen renovation materials, you will most likely choose stone benchtops. They are normally made out of engineered stone, but the...y can also be made out of natural stone there are however much more expensive. They are solid and require very little maintenance. Moreover, stone benchtops are non-porous, waterproof, scratch-resistant and resistant to mould and mildew. And, they are available in a great range of colours to match any colour scheme. - are a popular alternative to stone benchtops.
