25.01.2022 Happy New Year to you all!

25.01.2022 This week we celebrated Sinterklaas as a way of sharing different traditions surrounding Christmas. In the Netherlands, the 5th December is known as Saint Nicholas' Eve. At preschool, we celebrated aspects of Sinterklaas birthday by placing our shoes around our chimney... traditionally, shoes would be filled with a poem or wish list for Sinterklaas and carrots, hay or sugar cubes for Americo. Sinterklaas sometimes travels around with a beautiful white horse Americo. We gave each other gifts that we had drawn for each other to symbolise gift giving and we made Dutch pepernoten, thanks to the efforts of 2 of our lovely Dutch mums. We also looked at pictures of Sinterklaas and Americo and had pictures to colour and/or cut. The pepernoten were very popular!

23.01.2022 A sad and happy day for the Koala group today. The Management Committee and the Class parents bid Robyn who has been at Preschool for c.13 years and Kirsty who has been at Preschool for c.18 months farewell at an afternoon tea... just before the rain. Gorgeous flowers supplied by Nicole Storey and beautiful flower petal cards with special messages and gift card from the class parents. Thank you to you both for all that you have given to our beautiful preschool. You will be missed in 2019.

22.01.2022 It was very exciting to see one of our Preschool dads and daughter at the Northern Beaches Clean up in Palm Beach on Sunday. What we learnt is that we must refuse single use plastic wherever possible and avoid purchasing food in 'convenient' packaging. Instead of a single use yogurt container which we found where the plastic top and lining was still intact, we must choose a refillable container instead. Something for us all to consider when packing our children's lunches and morning teas.

22.01.2022 When Educators encourage children to play in home corner, children further develop their fine motor skills of pincer grip, palmar grasp; their cognitive development of cause and effect, attention span, and imagination; their language skills; their social development of turn-taking, sharing, parallel play, associative play, and cooperative play, and their emotional skills of self-regulation.

22.01.2022 One of two sing-a-long days this week- what a lovely time spent together! Thank you to all the visitors and thank you to all the children for making such a happy and gorgeous memory! And, the Kookaburra group gave Preschool a surprise courtesy of Rory from Wilk and son ... a beautiful bench seat that has the perfect place in the courtyard.

21.01.2022 Balloons are deadly to animals and they contribute to the waste we create which will be deadly to future generations

21.01.2022 The Culture of Kindness Most of us have never stopped to think about the importance of our HANDS to the baby, but when we do, we realise our hands let the baby ...know what we 'think' about her. The key word here is 'think', because mostly, we don't think. Think of it like this: if you and I were vulnerable (as in hospital say, and feeling poorly), how would we like the nurse to treat us? Roughly? Impatiently? Abruptly? Moving our limbs without telling us what they were going to do? Give our babies and children the kindness we would appreciate for ourselves. That way they will learn that we treat people with kindness. They'll learn "that's how it is, that's just what we do". See more

19.01.2022 Kids First's psychologists tell us that the words we use are just one way in which we can build our children's emotional intelligence and resilience

19.01.2022 When Educators engage children in group painting experiences, it helps to further develop children's social skills, language skills, emotional skills of turn-taking, and fine motor skills of tripod grip or palmar grasp. #happypainting #children #earlychildhood

18.01.2022 Thank you Rory -one of the preschool dads- for our beautiful 'new' tree. Now this tree has a 100 year old history... imagine the stories that can be told about the tree it once was, the house it once became and how now it has found a home among children. This repurposed wood that has once again become a tree can become part of the preschool program for Christmas and as a Giving tree, as the Thankful tree, the Tree of Knowledge, the Tree of life... you might like to watch 1 animated story about The Giving tree and to identify the message woven into the story... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFQZfeHq9wo

15.01.2022 On Tuesday night Preschool Staff and The Management Committee had the chance to spent a fun night out. Such a great opportunity to connect and learn something about each other in a relaxed way. Great company and a great end of the day!

11.01.2022 When Educators encourage children to play, they build bonds, and form friendships with the children in their classroom. Play helps children further develop their social skills of turn-taking and fairness, and helps further develop their emotional skills of self-regulation, and resilience. Very important life skills that endeavour how children will cope in social settings well into adulthood - From Early Childhood Educator Friends

08.01.2022 ONLY 4 DAYS TILL OUR KINDY XMAS DISCO. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR OWN REUSABLE PLATES AND CUPS AS THEY ARE NOT PROVIDED BY THE CATERER.

07.01.2022 Laughter, sadness, amazement, surprise, skill and teamwork... all in a days 'work' at Preschool! One of the children brought in a Green Grocer and we let him/her climb up the biggest tree trunk in the playground but a sneaky kookaburra was watching and ate our new friend. Our bees helped grow the biggest strawberry ever, the pirates watered the garden using water from our water tank, the children filled in the flagstone cracks after one of their peers tripped and fell, a game of 'aim and throw' met with success and Christmas cards were made. Doing, thinking, creating, cooperating, observing, caring, searching, role playing, problem solving, coordination are just some of the words that came to mind from today's learning! Oh yes, and a lot of fun and energy.

05.01.2022 Pause to listen...

05.01.2022 What a lovely week of learning about native bees, using creative skills to decorate the beehive insulation box, discovering a very big blue tongue lizard whom we believe may be pregnant and making gifts to give at Christmas time. Some of the children also made decorations to decorate the Christmas tree. So many skills and so much learning in the form of communication, problem solving, concentration, sustainability, caring for the environment and the creatures we share it with.

04.01.2022 A sad yet exciting last day for the 2 day groups for 2018! Thank you to you all for making the year such an energetic, fun and happy year of learning, exploring and experimenting. Today we celebrated the end of the year with a party day, singing, playing and reading favourite songs, games and stories. We also had the construction of the biggest slide ever which required lots of team work and we had a shared party lunch and DVD voted in by the children. Pluto was the winner from the other DVDs that were on offer. Thank you to all families and children for our Preschool for what it is.

03.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who attended our Christmas disco yesterday. It was such a great opportunity to connect, to have conversations and to enjoy seeing the fun had by the children. A massive thank you to the Management Committee who organised the event and a big thank you to Nardia for teaching us such great dance steps to 'Shake it off'. A huge thank you to all the volunteers (including one 7 year old) for the face painting and nail polish applications, set up and clean up a...t the end. Thank you to Collaroy Plateau Primary School for the use of their fantastic hall and grounds which allowed for soccer, tag and climbing games. It was a most enjoyable time where families and staff could work side by side to create yet another wonderful preschool memory. Apologies though for the lack of photographic skill but... they do capture a little of the atmosphere. See more

02.01.2022 Today we had a visit by an archaeologist and the children were able to take on the role of searching for artefacts and bones. There was much excitement, questions and comparisons made. Parts of broken pots were pieced together, bones were identified as emu, kangaroo or lamb bones and the children were able to use brushes to brush away the sand from their discoveries. Then they needed to sort out the finds... shells, bones, crockery and... rocks. Such a great way to learn about how history can be re-discovered and documented.

01.01.2022 What better to do on a rainy day but hang out with your friends, tell each other stories and make each other laugh. While you do this, see how you can squeeze all of you into the corner of the room and laugh some more. Laughing has benefits such as boosting immunity, relaxing muscles, lowering stress hormones (physical), eases anxiety and tension, improves mood, strengthens resilience (mental) strengthens relationships, attracts others to us, enhances teamwork, helps defuse conflict and promotes group bonding (social). These boys are supporting their wellbeing through the simple act of sharing in laughter. Who says laughter isnt the best medicine?
