20.01.2022 JOSIE JAGS A JACKPOT It was a ‘Black Friday’ for favourite punters at Richmond when Jackpot Josie delivered a knockout blow in the opening heat of the Ladbrokes... Gold Muzzle Auction race series at Richmond on Friday night and lowered the colours of boom chaser Flying Ricciardo Prepared by industry stalwart George Borg from his Berkshire Park kennels, the daughter of Dyna Double One and Bella Senora carved out a sizzling 8.13 first split from the extreme outside box before racing to the lead in the back straight and then holding off the $1.12 favourite to score in a Best-of-Night time of 22.52. Despite leaving punters with burnt fingers, Flying Ricciardo lost few admirers with another gallant performance after he missed the start and struck early bother, eventually going down by 1 lengths with Ray Keeping filling the minor spot another 6.25lengths adrift. While it was a shock to many, Jackpot Josie did have some support as an $8 second favourite off the back of an outstanding record over the 400m trip at Richmond where she has now had 9 starts at the track and trip for 6 wins and 3 minor placings and twice she has recorded the sizzling time of 22.49. In the second Heat, punters narrowed it down to basically a two-dog race and that’s exactly how it eventuated on the track. Hola Adios ($1.90) held the call over Sienna Keeping ($3.60) when the boxes opened but it was the latter who prevailed by of a length with Bella’s Choice finishing third as the winner stopped the clock at 23.03. The daughter of Melbourne Cup winning Sire, Black Magic Opal out of the G2 WA Oaks victor Milly Keeping, Sienna Keeping is owned and trained by leading Dubbo trainer Charmaine Roberts and has now earnt a cheque in 13 of 16 starts recording 6 victories and more than $16,000 on earnings. Courtesy of what looks to be an ideal outside draw, Flying Ricciardo will start favourite in the $6,000 to the winner final next Friday night with Jackpot Josie drawn directly underneath him while the other likely leaders in the event, Hola Adios and Sienna Keeping have drawn poorly in Boxes 5 and 4 respectively. Details of the 2021 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction will be released shortly with Breeders already lining up to nominate their Pups for the event and enormous interest from prospective purchasers.
19.01.2022 FABULOUS FLASHBACKS The Wheeler name is synonymous with producing champions of our sport with Paul Wheeler continuing to build on the foundations laid by his late father Allen. But in 1994, there were no Melbourne Cups or Australian Cups on the Wheeler mantlepiece as Paul was struggling to establish his own reputation in the industry.... 19.01.2022 RICCIARDO LOOKING FOR A GOLD MUZZLE CLEAN SWEEP Boom chaser Flying Ricciardo is making a quick pit-stop at Richmond this Friday night en-route to a tilt at the ...G1 Dapto Megastar, as he looks to make a clean sweep of the Ladbrokes Gold Muzzle Auction race series. The son of Barcia Bale and Megalodon claimed the inaugural Gold Muzzle Auction Race Series at Wentworth Park just two weeks ago when he defeated Premier Grant and Additional Asset, taking his overall record to 19 starts for 16 wins and 2 seconds. Purchased by his owner-trainer Kristy Sultana for $7,500 at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction, Flying Ricciardo has now earnt connections more than $141,000 and will start from Box 2 in Race 1 on Friday night. Although Richmond is his ‘home track’, this will be just his second official start at the Londonderry circuit and his first over the 400m he won there at start number 4 when clocking a Best-of-Night 18.63 over the 330m dash and he will also be looking to maintain his unbeaten record when wearing the striped rug. And although he is the sprinter on most people’s lips at the moment, he will face some stiff opposition on Friday night with the likes of Dam Reckless (Barcia Bale x Lagoon Prissy) and Jackpot Josie (Dyna Double One x Bella Senora) expected to be the toughest to beat. Dam Reckless has won 3 of 5 starts at Richmond with a best on the clock of a smart 22.68, while Jackpot Josie is a 5-time winner at the track and distance, and if she can reproduce her PB there of a sizzling 22.49, she’s certain to stretch the favourite. In the second Heat, Hola Adios and Sienna Keeping are the best performed chasers in the field with Hola Adios (Fernando Bale x Chica Destacada) scoring there at her last start over the 330m in a smart 18.68 while the Charmaine Roberts prepared Sienna Keeping (Black Magic Opal x Milly Keeping) has been victorious twice at the track and trip with a 22.76 best. The opening event at Richmond is due to get underway at 7.01 local time this Friday night and don’t forget, you can watch every NSW Greyhound race, live and free at www.thedogs.com.au website

17.01.2022 FABULOUS FLASHBACKS In our third and final instalment of the 1997 racing year, we've kept the best until last. There’s the G1 Coca-Cola and Eukanuba Cups from A...lbion Park; the Cranbourne and Melbourne Cups; and the Topgun, which for the first and only time, featured chasers from Ireland, England and the USA taking on the best from Australia. 15.01.2022 December 10, 2020 $7,500 turns into $225,000 and Group 1 success for Flying Ricciardo From the moment he stepped foot onto a racetrack, Gold Muzzle graduate, Fl...ying Ricciardo, has been creating headlines and tonight, he etched his name into the history books when he scored a breathtaking victory in the G1 Dapto Megastar. With the reigning Australian Greyhound of the Year, Simon Told Helen drawn in the coveted inside box and Flying Ricciardo on his immediate outside, they staged an old fashioned two dog war until the back straight when the son of Barcia Bale and Megalodon exploded into another gear and left the race favourite standing, eventually scoring by 2.25 lengths in a time of 29.48, less than 2 lengths outside the track record. It is now well documented that Flying Ricciardo was one of four pups offered for sale at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction by breeder Lynne Aldous with Kristy Sultana paying just $7,500 for him as a 6 month old pupfor Kristy and her father Sam, an industry stalwart with more than 40 years behind him as a greyhound trainer, Flying Ricciardo now stands at the very top of the list of top class greyhounds that the Sultana’s have prepared. His victory at the elite level took his race record to an amazing 23 starts for 19 wins and 3 seconds, and officially, $224,590 in earnings. On behalf of the Gold Muzzle team, congratulations to Kristy and Sam Sultana and stay tuned for big news next week as we announce the full list of Gold Muzzle Sales to be conducted in 2021who knows, there may just be another Flying Ricciardo in the offering.

11.01.2022 RICCIARDO THE CANINE HEADLINE He’s the headline dog of the Ladbrokes Gold Muzzle Auction race series and with good reason. Flying Ricciardo, who counts his name...sake, F1 champ Dan Ricciardo amongst his followers, is one of the shortest favourites in a feature race in recent years as he attempts to claim the $40,000 winner’s cheque in the Ladbrokes Gold Muzzle Auction final at Wentworth Park on Saturday night. For owner-trainer Kristy Sultana, his win in the Gold Muzzle Auction Heat last Saturday was a massive relief. After what happened at the first turn in the Million Dollar Chase final, I was just happy that he came out running and charged through that first turn which proved that he’d taken no harm from the bad check he got there the week before, said Sultana. It’s now well documented that Sultana purchased Flying Ricciardo (Barcia Bale x Megalodon) at the inaugural Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction in June 2019 as a six-month old pup for $7,500, and since then, he’s been responsible for creating headlines and exposure across so many media outlets. From Channel 9 News stories to Dan Ricciardo and his followers jumping on board and supporting him through social media, Flying Ricciardo is one of those ‘feel-good’ stories that our industry needs to attract new participants. I love the whole process of the Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction, said Sultana We’d heard that Lynne and Brandon Aldous had been educating the pups up the straight at Richmond from that young age and when we looked at them on the day, they were outstanding types. The fact we could inspect the dogs on the day and see how they interacted with people was a bonus but so too is the fact that you can buy a pup from the Gold Muzzle Auction and then you are eligible to compete in a Race Series with the terrific prizemoney attached to it is just another reason we’ll be back there next year to try and buy another Ricciardo. Kristy Sultana said there had already been enormous interest in Flying Ricciardo as a Stud dog but at the moment, their only focus is the racetrack. We don’t think it’s possible to combine racing and stud duties, so as long as he comes through Saturday night ok, we’ll then target the G1 Megastar at Dapto and we’ll re-assess after that if and when he’s a Stud dog proposition we’ll worry about that at the time but we’re just enjoying the ride at the moment. Flying Ricciardo is currently quoted at $1.18 to claim the Gold Muzzle Auction race series final and even if he does salute, the minor prize money attached to the Final is still outstanding with $10,000 for second; $3,000 for third; and all unplaced runners receiving $500. Gold Muzzle Auctions Managing Director, Mark Duclos, said an announcement as to the confirmed date for the 2021 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction will be made in the following weeks. We’ve already had substantial enquiries from breeders looking to enter their pups into the next Auction as well as an enormous increase in enquiries from prospective purchasers looking to hopefully buy another Flying Ricciardo next year along with our partner, GRNSW, we’ll make that announcement very shortly to enable us to activate a targeted Advertising and Marketing campaign, said Duclos. The Ladbrokes Gold Muzzle Auction race series final is Race 7 at Wentworth Park on Saturday night and is due to jump at 8.22pm AEDT.
11.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS 2020 GOLD MUZZLE PUPPY AUCTION HAS BEEN POSTPONED. March 30, 2020... It is with regret, that due to the on-going COVID-19 crisis and the restrictions that are currently in place, we now advise that the 2020 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction that was due to be held on June 23, has been postponed to a date to be advised. This decision was made in consultation with GRNSW and is necessary for obvious saftey and compliance issues that currently exist. We are hopeful of staging the Auction later this year, however, that will be determined when and if restrictions are lifted. Kind Regards, Mark Duclos
10.01.2022 RICCIARDO TAKES THE CHEQUERED FLAG In just a little over 22 seconds, Flying Ricciardo ($1.22) reasserted his authority over his fellow Gold Muzzle Auction gradu...ates to make it a clean sweep of the Ladbrokes Gold Muzzle Auction race series at Richmond on Friday night. After being rolled as a $1.12 favourite in the qualifiers one week earlier, the son of Barcia Bale and Megalodon was back on the podium following an authoritative 2.75lth victory over Jackpot Josie ($8) with a further length away to the early leader Hola Adios ($10) in third place with the clock stopped at a best-of-night, 22.55 On a night when electrical storms and heavy rain created havoc and headaches, Flying Ricciardo again etched his name into the record books by claiming both the Wentworth Park and Richmond series of the Gold Muzzle Auction Race series and in turn, took his career record to 21 start for 17 wins and 3 seconds as his prizemoney tally soared to $147,890. The story of Flying Ricciardo is now well known to most greyhound racing followers but for those who may be a little late coming to the party, he was purchased by Kristy Sultana at the inaugural Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction for $7,5000 after being one of four pups offered for sale by his breeder, Lynne Aldous. At his debut performance on a race track, he set a new Track record over the 340m trip at Bulli before his colours were lowered one week late when he finished second to another Gold Muzzle Auction graduate, Lagoon Sunshine. He then went on to win 13 of his next 14 starts including the G2 Black Top at The Gardens, with his only unplaced effort to date coming in the world’s richest race, the Million Dollar Chase. The boom sprinter will now be aimed at the upcoming G1 Sportsbet Megastar series at Dapto over 520m where the Heats will be staged on Thursday, December 3. It is an old cliché but hey, the racing world is full of thoseat just 23 months of age ‘the world is his oyster’ and Flying Ricciardo may just be the flag-bearer for future Auction sales for many years to come. Final details of the 2021 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction will be confirmed shortly however the tentative date is Sunday, June 20, 2021 and it will be open for Pups whelped between July 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021.
10.01.2022 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction graduate, FLYING RICCIARDO, has raced his way into the world's richest Greyhound race, the 2020 Million Dollar Chase final, to be... staged at Wentworth Park on Friday night. The son of Barcia Bale and Megalodon continued his outstanding form by making it 10 straight wins, when he led throughout to claim his Semi Final in a time of 29.71. Trained by Kristy Sultana, FLYING RICCIARDO extended his career record to 16 starts for 14 wins (including the G2 Black Top) and 2 seconds, and maintained his unbeaten record at the Glebe circuit winning his fourth race at the venue. A $7,500 purchase at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction by Kristy Sultana, we wish FLYING RICCIARDO and the Sultana family the best of luck in their pursuit of the biggest prize in greyhound racing and hopefully, we'll see him contest the Heats of the inaugural Golden Muzzle race series which will be staged at Wentworth Park on Saturday, October 24.
09.01.2022 FABULOUS FLASHBACK WORTH DOING - New Track Record at Wentworth Park It was a Quarter Final of the 1989 National Derby and it was billed as a match race between West Cape and Worth Doing ... When the judge called a halt, it was a one act affair. Worth Doing romped home in a track record time of 29.50, a time that would never be eclipsed. https://vimeo.com/400848663
08.01.2022 RICCIARDO FLIES INTO THE RECORD BOOKS The meteoric rise of Flying Ricciardo continued at Wentworth Park last night when he etched his name into the history book...s as the inaugural winner of the Gold Muzzle Auction race series. The son of Barcia Bale and Megalodon was among four pups of that litter bred and nominated for the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction by Lynne Aldous and was purchased by Kristy Sultana for just $7,500. History now shows, that less than 18 months later, his race record stands at 19 starts for 16 wins and 2 seconds and after claiming the $40,000 winner’s cheque, his prizemoney has soared above more than $141,000and just think, he is not even 2 years of age yet. Flying Ricciardo showed all his customary early pace that greyhound fans have come to expect when he led from box rise with a 5.43 first split before stopping the clock at a new career best at the Glebe circuit of 29.69, taking his record at the track to 6 starts for 5 wins with his only defeat coming in the Million Dollar Chase final. Premier Grant (Dyna Double One x Cheeky Grant) for owner-trainer David Grant of Canowindra, showed he was a chaser with plenty of potential when he ran the winner to just over 2 lengths when the judge called a halt, with Flying Ricciardo’s litter-brother, Additional Asset, claiming third spot another 4 lengths away. It’s just been an amazing ride so far and we can’t ask anymore of him, he is an amazing dog and we are so thrilled to have won a race like this, said Kristy Sultana following the victory. The Sultana name is synonymous with Greyhound racing in NSW Kristy’s sister Michelle is a prominent trainer while her father Sam, or ‘Sparrow’ as he is affectionately known, has put the polish on some very good chasers over the past 40 yearsKristy had no hesitation in declaring where Flying Ricciardo stood in the family pecking order. He is treated like a spoilt child at home but there’s no doubt, he’s the best dog we’ve ever had, and I just can’t wait to see what he can do in the next 6 months or so. Flying Ricciardo’s immediate aim will be the G1 Megastar at Dapto with an interstate trip up in the clouds due to the Covid pandemic, however, races like the age-restricted G1 National Derby at Wentworth Park will also be a target. Gold Muzzle Auctions and its partner, GRNSW, will announce next week the date and conditions for the next Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction with preliminary details being that it will be staged in June 2021 and will be open for pups whelped between July 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021.
08.01.2022 Could this dog be the next 'big thing' at Stud? Zipping Garth had his career cut short by shocking injuries suffered in a trial but his deeds on the racetrack u...p until that time gave greyhound fans a glimpse of what could have been. 5 starts for 5 wins - 30.09 at Richmond and 29.20 at The Gardens (just half a length outside the Track record) and his trainer Jason Mackay states that..."no matter what dog we've had in the past, when you line them up against Zipping Garth, he had lengths on them..." 04.01.2022 FLYING RICCIARDO ALL THE RAGE IN THE GOLDEN MUZZLE HEATS THIS SATURDAY In June 2019, breeder Lynne Aldous offered four pups for sale at the first Gold Muzzle P...uppy Auction by Barcia Bale out of Megalodon and in hindsight, plenty of people would love to ‘turn back the clock’ and be the purchaser of one of those pups in particular. It’s now well documented that Flying Ricciardo was purchased for just $7,500 by Kristy Sultana and since commencing his career, he has now raced on 17 occasions for the outstanding record of 14 wins and 2 seconds as well as claiming the G2 Black Top and establishing a new track record at Bulli. Flying Ricciardo has been the flag-bearer to date of the 108 lots that were sold at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction and this Saturday, he will start a short-priced favourite in the inaugural Golden Muzzle Race series for graduates of the Auction. After finishing mid-field in the Million Dollar Chase final last week, Flying Ricciardo draws Box 5 in the first qualifier where the first 4 place-getters will progress through to next Saturday’s final, and the final winner will collect $40,000. The toughest for Flying Ricciardo to beat may be his litter-brother, Additional Asset, who arrives at headquarters for trainer Brian Barrington with the record of 3 wins from just 6 starts. Additional Asset has a smart 22.76 win at The Gardens over the 400m sprint trip and at his 3rd run over this distance, he could be the big improver. In the second heat, Vamos Penny, which was a buy back at the Gold Muzzle Auction by her owners Denis Donoghue and Peter McDermott for $31,000, looks ideally drawn close to the fence as she strives to record her sixth win at Wentworth Park. With a 29.72 personal best at the track, Vamos Penny (Fernando Bale x Chica Destacada) had no luck last Friday night after she was moderately away from a wide draw, but a return to an inside alley, should see her stalk the early leaders and be tough to hold out. The other two greyhounds from the Barcia Bale x Megalodon litter that were sold by Lynne Aldous at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction will also do battle in the second Heat, with Megla Magic positioned in Box 7 while her sister, Ivy Conniving will wear the pink rug. While her more illustrious brother was burning up the tracks, Ivy Conniving only made her racetrack debut in mid-June and in 10 starts since, has recorded a pair of wins at Richmond over the 400m before scoring on debut at Wentworth Park last Saturday in 30.36. Due to the Covid pandemic, this years Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction was abandoned but it has since been confirmed that the 2021 Auction will be staged in June next year with Megalodon whelping a litter of pups to Aston Dee Bee last month, organisers are hopeful that some of those off-spring will be the headline acts and sales-toppers at the next Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction.
03.01.2022 2019 GMA GRADUATES BURNING UP THE TRACKS The first wave of pups sold at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction have made the transition to the racetrack and they ha...ve literally been burning up the tracks with some very impressive performances. Sienna Keeping, a daughter-in-law of Black Magic Opal and Milly Keeping, has now faced the starter 5 times scoring 3 victories, including a 22.76 BON performance at Richmond over 400m. Jackpot Josie, by Dyna Double One out of Bella Señora, has currently had 3 starts for 2 wins, both at Richmond over the 400m, with the highlight being a Best-of-Night gallop of a sizzling 22.61. Coincidentally, Sienna Keeping and Jackpot Josie met in a 330m dash at Richmond last Sunday finishing first and second, with Sienna Keeping scoring in a time of 18.83. Rapid Rival is another graduate of the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction and she was brilliant when scoring on debut at Dubbo last week in a flying 22.86 over the 400m trip. A daughter of Fernando Bale out of Becky Keeping, Rapid Rival is certain to start a short-priced favourite when she contests Race 5 at Dubbo this Thursday for trainer, Angela Kilpatrick. Owners are reminded that the Second and Final Nomination for the 2020 Golden Muzzle Race series must be lodged by April 30 - only pups sold at the 2019 Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction are eligible to nominate for the Golden Muzzle Race Series with the first to be staged at Wentworth Park in October (520m Series with $40,000 to the winner final, followed by another series at Richmond (400m Series with $6,000 to the winner) in November. Mark Duclos, Managing Director of Gold Muzzle Auctions, said the quality of greyhounds to come through the inaugural Gold Muzzle Puppy Auction has been outstanding. The likes of Flying Ricciardo have been brilliant since making their race track debuts and he has now won 5 of his 7 starts to date including a Track Record at Bulli over the 340m, while chasers such as Vamos Penny (29:91 at Wentworth Park) and Jackpot Josie (22:49 at Richmond) have also been setting the tracks alight. With another 3 months until the Wentworth Park series kicks off, we’re expecting more of our Auction graduates to hit the tracks shortly and stake their claims to win the $40,000 winners’ cheque.
