07.01.2022 Today, with Archaeology at UWA, Centre for Forensic Anthropology and UWA School of Social Sciences, we were excited to host The University of Western Australia'...s new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amit Chakma on a tour of our archaeology and forensics labs. Professor Chakma had a welcome from community partner Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation's CEO Peter Jeffries, before getting a hands on experience with Dr Sam Harper on archaeological sorting, Dr Kane Ditchfield on lithic analysis and Dr Emilie Dotte-Sarout on creating a charcoal reference collection. We also toured the Forensics lab where Professor Chakma viewed the oldest European human remains in Australia (from the Batavia shipwreck and mutiny).

01.01.2022 Premier Mark McGowan and Culture and Arts Minister David Templeman have announced the opening date of the new Western Australian Museum Saturday 21 November! This will be the first day of a spectacular opening festival that will run across nine days. Tickets to the opening festival, including first access entry tours of the Museum, will be made available through a ballot on the Museum’s website later this year. http://museum.wa.gov.au/newmuseum
01.01.2022 A new exhibition at The State Library of New South Wales, covering the arrival of Captain James Cook from an Aboriginal perspective, has been criticised for try...ing to rewrite history. But curators say they're not trying to tarnish the explorer's legacy, rather tell both sides of the story. Meant to open in April, 250 years to the day since Cook's landing in Botany Bay, it was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, with restrictions easing, Eight days in Kamay opens to the public next week and incorporates historical exhibits, like Cook's diary, alongside modern day art. "It was a really exciting opportunity to platform and prioritise some of the Aboriginal views on this legacy ... it was no intention to tear down Cook, to remove him, to destroy history." - Damien Webb - Curator Video: 7news.link/2ZiCnZx #Sydney #7NEWS
