25.01.2022 @joanielemercier s "portal to the stars" has been wowing crowds in Wirral. The light show Constellations has been taking place across the weekend on a huge water screen on West Kirbys Marine Lake to create an immersive experience through breath-taking 3D visuals. Commissioned by Wirral Borough of Culture, Constellations takes audiences on a journey among the stars.... Visitors have been transported from the heart of a black hole into deep space, traveling through the planets and stars as the projection explores the limits of the universe. The series is designed to inspire local communities to rediscover their neighbourhoods and spend time connecting whilst stargazing. As his first project by the sea the French artist described the 100 meter tunnel above the sea, created by the installation, as an unexpected event caused by the strong winds, intense rain and reflections on the water surface. Citing Mother Nature as an surprise co-producer of the installation. #inspiration #design #art #community See more

21.01.2022 Art or a social experiment? Level by Hans Hemmert, Berlin. Hans Hemmerts shoe extenders, produced in various heights, make everyone 6 1/2 feet (two meters) tall. The extenders made their debut at an event thrown in conjunction with Personal Absurdities, a 1997 exhibition at the Galerie Gebauer Berlin. At that party, everyone saw eye to eye. ... 21.01.2022 Alone but together. This is something that came up time and time again in our research findings from Atmosphere. From parks to libraries, to co-working spaces and even restaurants and movie theatres, people seek out spaces where they can do activities alone but still surrounded by others. On the reverse side, we also found that people seek out shared spaces to make new friends and interact with like-minded people. Spaces that allow for... selective intimacy facilitate connection by giving people this choice around interaction, allowing them to feel relaxed and enjoy connecting to others in whatever way suits them best. #designexperiment #socialexperiement #designresearch #urbanplanning #publicspace #community #connection #socialresearch #art #culture #design See more

20.01.2022 @wingnutandco supplied all the beautiful ceramics and vessels that were used to create the wellness installations for our design experiment, Atmosphere. The installations were also used to present the @additionstudio bath salts that participants used to fill their footbaths. As part of the group wellness rituals performed at Atmosphere, participants helped create footbaths, which they could then soak their feet in as they viewed the performance art piece b...y @dancingwithgravity. Atmosphere used rituals to create incidental interaction that would facilitate connection. Immersive sensory experiences were used to ground people and help them tune into the present moment, making it easier for them to connect to others who were sharing the same experience. How to drive connection and community is at the heart of all our research. Connected communities have the power to drive positive change and find better ways of living. #community #connectivity #wellness #ritual #design #designresearch #socialexperiment See more

15.01.2022 "3GATTI has envisioned a giant inflating heart for the british pavilion at the 2020 venice biennale. The heart will beat inside the space, inflating when visitors show an interest, but slowly deflating if no one is interested. The concept behind the proposal is to create a spatial language which represents contemporary british culture and sentiment. the vision creates a bold metaphor to visualize the forces that are pushing people in and out of the U.K." @designboom #designinspiration #socialexperiment #art #design #playfulresearch

10.01.2022 1:1 interviews examined how Atmospheres design impacted peoples emotional experience of the space and how that, in turn, affected connectivity. One thing we heard a lot was that psychological safety facilitated people connecting. Various design elements created a sense of security, including a distinct space that felt protected from the outside world and the reassuring manner in which staff guided people through their experience of the space. While it mi...ght seem obvious, spaces must make people feel safe, especially when we consider the use of public space and the role it plays in connecting us to our local community and the broader city. Too often in the built environment, psychological wellbeing is compromised in the face of the competing agendas of functionality and aesthetics. But, as weve learned, psychological wellbeing needs to be prioritized if spaces are to be successful in helping people to connect. #design #socialexperiment #safespaces #builtenviroment #publicspaces #lonliness #wellbeing #designexperiment See more

07.01.2022 Research from our design experiment Atmosphere demonstrated that selective intimacy and a connection to nature are both important aspects that help facilitate connection and wellbeing in shared spaces. Selective intimacy means people feel they have a choice in whether they interact or not with others in the space. We discovered that this choice makes people feel more comfortable and relaxed, which in turn helps them to be more open and connected. ... We also found that connection to nature (through sensory elements, such as the sound of running water, birds chirping, or a view of the natural environment) promotes relaxation and decreases anxiety. Being relaxed and comfortable makes people more open and connected. #connection #community #designexperiment #designresearcg #wellbeing #nature See more

04.01.2022 From bakeries to pubs to designer concept stores, thriving local retail has always been a place for community connection and daily interaction. 04.01.2022 Community managed carbon footprints are an interesting example of how communities can work together to affect change. Community-managed waste and energy generation, as a way to decrease carbon emissions, is something that we at CF are interested to learn more about. As individuals, we can feel powerless and overwhelmed with how to affect change. At a larger scale, globalization, growing political apathy, turbulence, and digital echo chambers makes change s...eem almost impossible. But at the community level, effecting change can be more manageable, and when that change spreads, very powerful. How might we drive a community connection to make change possible? What role can communities play in helping us to be more sustainable?
