25.01.2022 The 'Shoreline' tart was our summer collaboration with Mr Frugii, but it's been so popular it is still being made weekly for the Frugii Braddon store. Based on our Shoreline Sangiovese Rosé, the tart is layers with white chocolate, rosewater parfait, sweet and sour cherries, pomegranate molasses and cracked coriander... it's divine.
25.01.2022 Call in to charming Collector soon.
25.01.2022 Could this be one of the best vintages of the millennium? 2018 was an outstanding year in both Tumbarumba and Canberra. Along with the 2018 Tiger Tiger Chardonnay, which we released earlier this spring, we have just released the 2018 Marked Tree Red Shiraz. With gold medals from both the Canberra Region Wine Show and the Royal Sydney Wine Show, this wine is off to a good start already - but most importantly, it sings of the classic Marked Tree Red we have come to know and lov...e. https://www.collectorwines.com.au//marked-tree-red-shiraz-
24.01.2022 It was a delightful surprise to find out yesterday that we were listed in the Real Review Top Wineries of Australia! Judged by Huon Hooke and Bob Campbell MW from over 1600 wineries in Australia and New Zealand, this is an affirmation of the consistency, quality and style of our wines. Congratulations to our Canberra Wines regional colleagues at Clonakilla Wines, Mount Majura Vineyard, Helm Wines and Lark Hill Winery, who were also listed - with Clonakilla ranking no. 4! It's a pleasure to be making wine in this wonderful region of ours.
24.01.2022 A great profile by the POP Canberra team on Collector Wines, local shopping, and some of the stories behind the wines. We very much enjoyed taking the POP team around the vineyard where our Rose Red City Sangiovese grows, along the Marked Tree Road, and down into Collector to the Cellar Door. https://www.popcanberra.com.au/blogs/news
24.01.2022 Tonight we're celebrating National Shiraz Day with a glass of the Collector Reserve. Nick Stock, writing on JamesSuckling.com, calls this a "brilliant wine and drinking well already with a couple of decades of aging potential ahead too. Drink now. 96 pts." For tasting notes and the full review, go to: https://www.collectorwines.com.au//pro/reserve-shiraz-2013
22.01.2022 Did you know you can gift a wine club membership this Christmas? 22.01.2022 Releasing the 2019 Summer Swarm Fiano. Our second year of producing this wine, the deep-rooted fiano vines thrived in the drier conditions of 2019. The resulting wine is one Alex likes to enjoy just on its own as an apéritif - but it also pairs well with a range of summer and seasonal dishes. Gold Medal and Trophy for Best White Wine at the 2020 Hilltops Wine Show, and 94 pts, Halliday Wine Companion.
22.01.2022 Oh hey there, little fella. The outlook in the vineyards is pretty fresh, for more than one of us. Here's to vintage 2021!
22.01.2022 We were delighted to win the Trophy for Best Mature White Wine at the Tumbarumba Wine Show last week. We're especially pleased the judges recognised the Tiger Tiger Chardonnay and its potential. Well cellared, it will be drinking beautifully in 20 years. We must thank our grapegrowers in Tumbarumba, partners without whom this wine wouldn't have been made. Thanks also to the judges, Riverina Winemakers and most of all, you: our fellow wine lovers and fans of the Tiger Tiger, old and new.
20.01.2022 Mornings at the Cellar Door

20.01.2022 From Alex and the entire team, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! It's been a year. As for all of us, there have been highs and lows, and throughout them all we've greatly appreciated your support. We have big plans for 2021, and we're excited about the year ahead. Wishing you a safe, happy, and restful festive season. May the New Year be so bright, you all squint into the sun... like us at our recent team Christmas party!
19.01.2022 "'Quaint' is the ideal word to describe the absolutely precious little cellar door located in the old Collector Inn, built around 1829..." Read more of Darren McMullen's charming review of our Cellar Door in this week's Escape.com.au feature.
19.01.2022 We just loved this write up from Prince Wine Store: From their modest home base just outside of Canberra McKay’s Collector Wines has been slowly but surely gathering steam for a number of years now. I am an enthusiastic fan of their perfectly pitched cool-climate Marked Tree Red Shiraz and their lip-smacking Sangiovese Rose - is Canberra now the home to the best Sangiovese in the country? - but it is their Tiger Tiger Chardonnay that continues to be the high achiever in the l...ine-up. The just released 2018 vintage now marks a third year in a row where the wine has torn through the pack at the prestigious Canberra Wine show and racked up scores in the mid to high nineties from heavyweights such as James Halliday and Campbell Mattinson. This overachieving Chardonnay has even drawn the attention of Jancis Robinson who was enamoured with the wine in her latest write up of the Tumbarumba region.
19.01.2022 We've invested in holding back our Reserve Shiraz vintages from early release, and we tend to release the Reserve at a later time than we do for our Marked Tree Red Shiraz. Our current release is the 2013 Reserve. It has a touch more whole bunch fermentation than the Marked Tree Red, a slightly higher proportion of new French oak, and with its kiss of viognier, this is a wine that is just coming into its own now. 96 points from JamesSuckling.com.... More: https://www.collectorwines.com.au//pro/reserve-shiraz-2013
18.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Kate Hibberson and the team at The Boat House for winning the prestigious Best Listing of a Region’s Wines in The Australian Wine List of the Year Awards. It's a honour to have our wines on the list, and a pleasure to be just one of the many wineries featured from this incredible wine region.

17.01.2022 "Tumbarumba, where chardonnay is king." In today's The Weekend Australian Magazine, James Halliday highlights the beautiful Tumbarumba wine region, selects chardonnay as its premier grape, and notes the 2018 Tiger Tiger Chardonnay as the most outstanding example of a Tumbarumba chardonnay. We are incredibly pleased. ... The 2018 Tiger Tiger Chardonnay is not yet released, but will be available from mid-October. http://www.collectorwines.com.au//tiger-tiger-chardonnay-2

15.01.2022 "This wine is brilliant," says Darren McMullen in this week's Escape.com.au of the Lamp Lit Marsanne. "It’s a perfect mix of marsanne, roussanne and viognier, a classic northern Rhone Valley white blend, stored in French oak with full malolactic fermentation... "It’s fantastic to smash with a roast chicken and who doesn’t like a roast chook? It will also last 10 to 15 years in the bottle, getting more honeysuckle over time."
15.01.2022 Canaiolo nero: animal, vegetable or mineral? One of the "rarest of the rare", canaiolo nero is a native Italian red grape variety grown widely across Tuscany. It is often blended along with colorino, another native Italian red, and sangiovese to create the stunning wines of Chianti. Wine writer Dan Traucki, in this month's Australia's Wine Business Magazine (WBM), is tasting his way through some of the rare grape varieties of the world in his series "Rare to be Different." Da...n is focusing on varieties that have fewer than five producers in Australia. He tasted a sample of our canaiolo nero, as well as the wine it is blended into, the Rose Red City Sangiovese, and had this to say: "This interesting blend reads like an Italian 'who's who' of varieties as it is made up of sangiovese, malvasia nera, canaiolo nero, colorino and mammolo... The Rose Red City is an appealing, fragrant, big-flavoured wine that has a degree of acidity that suggests it is most at home with rich food."
15.01.2022 And the pruning begins! We'll spend most of winter doing this essential work. In the vineyards we manage, we take the time to cane prune by hand, carefully selecting the buds and shoots that will produce the crop for next year. Although it's extra effort, in summer we'll see the fruits of our labour in balanced healthy vines and grapes that are bursting with flavour.
14.01.2022 Pruning continues. Nothing is wasted in the vineyard. In general, we will mulch the canes we prune over winter, returning nutrients to the soil. Occasionally, the canes are turned into a more permanent reminder of the season, such as these beautiful wreaths by Nemori Farm.
13.01.2022 Come and visit Collector. While our grapes come from vineyards dotted around the Canberra District, our home is in the heart of country Collector. Come for a tasting experience at our Cellar Door in the old Collector Inn, c1829. Arrive by Marked Tree Road for breathtaking views of Lake George. Enjoy a tasting, then head next door to Some Cafe for lunch with a glass of wine. Head out to explore Collector and the wineries of Lake George: Visit Collector. ... Just off the Federal Highway, we are 40 minutes from Canberra and halfway between Sydney and the snow. 13.01.2022 "When you drink this wine you know that Australian chardonnay has come to be in a remarkable place." We couldn't be more delighted with these words from the Halliday Wine Companion team. The Tiger Tiger Chardonnay, 96pts.

12.01.2022 "Turkey isn’t something I have at Christmas but if you do, I recommend the 2018 Collector Tiger Tiger Chardonnay. I love this wine! Again, I have recommended it before but Alex just keeps making such an outstanding wine. If you’re not eating Turkey like me, this wine will also go well with your roast chicken or pork." A great round up of local wines to serve this Christmas - thanks for including the Tiger Tiger Chardonnay, Kate!
10.01.2022 "My vision has always been for a wine that is faithful to the sangiovese variety.... there can be beautiful sangiovese blends, that are absolutely world-class," Alex says. "But to me the more compelling sangiovese wines are really sangiovese driven and a pure expression of that variety." https://www.collectorwines.com.au//rose-red-city-sangioves

01.01.2022 Rosalie Gascoigne, the Canberra artist whose works our wines are named for, once said: "You go, you see, it's a nice fine day and the country is there waiting for you, you see. And so I went on one of my favorite drives, my favourite routes, which is through Gundaroo, up over the hill, down to Collector, and sometimes - this bypasses the Federal Highway and Lake George and all that. "And so I thought about this place, and I think it's the place I always take visitors. That's what Australia's like, the distance, the height, the clarity, and the fact that there's nothing there, but everything is there."
01.01.2022 We are looking forward to our Meet the Maker event with Bodalla Dairy Shed next Thursday 6 August at Pialligo Estate. Look at that incredible menu below!
