25.01.2022 Waratah Jumping show at SIEC.Lovely courses with SA Michael Haese in ring one and ring two Mark Atkins. Judges Michael Archer and Jane Kibble. Jane would have been looking longingly at M Archer’s very smart Judges box with air -con. The trailer looks like Kevin Taranto’s from Melbourne. A cloudy steamy day and then the sun came out. We had a slow morning then as it happens we had 3 riders and 5 horses going at the same time. Bit hectic, but our results were good. Earlier... in the day Mav Miles was eqal winner in 1.20m and Coco 5th. Tori led from the first out position with Buddy in the YR 1.30m. A quick changeover in the darkening afternoon for another good round with Archer to finish 5th in the 5/6 yr old class. I managed to win that class with Connollys Karuba. Liz had a win as well with Diamond B Carino in the open section. We walked the course for the last class in ring two ,and the rain was coming closer. I could see some lightning in the distance so I was not keen. The decision was made for us when the rain pelted down. Within 30 minutes the rain was falling onto an almost empty venue. When we arrived home the road was dry, 2mls in our gauge! Hot and steamy tomorrow I’m guessing. For all the results look up global entries online , live results . See more

25.01.2022 This is Connollys Karuba winning her first event today at SIEC.

25.01.2022 Much needed rain has fallen in our area.Sydney springs are generally dry. I remember one time we went to Berrigan ,Benalla and a few more shows in the area to get away from the hard grounds in Sydney. It worked ,all those shows were very very wet . We had a good time all the same. I helped the rain , I bought water for the house tank.

21.01.2022 JNSWSummer Show. The weather has been kind. Great to catch up with those we have been kept away from due to Covid. Some great jump offs and new faces emerging which is exciting and necessary for growth I marvel at the effort and dedication shown by all those who need to get up at 4am and drive to the shows . All the officials, helpers and competitors ,well done to you.

17.01.2022 Day two, the weather was much kinder today and currently we are experiencing a thunderstorm. Early starts and long days, what else is new. Lots of places for the team with plenty of good riding. Lucy Evans was a winner of one of the 1.05m’s. A bit of success keeps you keen to continue the quest.... Great to see some interstate riders here. A wonderful effort by Sydney Jump Club to run so many classes to suit their regular members. For those keen to check results if they are not up on the facebook page look up on Global under live results. View into the main ring from the practice arena. See more

14.01.2022 Couple of casual pics from SIEC. Day 1, Our visitor from Wagga, Chloe Mannel won the open division of the 110m on Thursday with a smart round. I think the rest of us went well enough but ...... A young tennis player told me once that he didnt think he could this sport. Too heartbreaking, no second chance! Day 2.... More clears but not at the pointy end yet. The 2nd ring started at 8am and was still going 4.30pm. I know at some shows we can run later but this competition is still running under Covid restrictions. Day three. Saturday, getting to the serious part. See more

14.01.2022 Well here we go the second jump club training day, since FEbruary. Due to the high demand and short daylight hours plus of course the 500 people limit jump club is adding extra training days to help get everyone a go. Look up Sydney Jump Club page or Global for more info.

10.01.2022 Coach of the Month for April 2020 is... (drum roll) Congratulations Colleen Brook, an EA Level 3 General, Level 3 Eventing and Level 3 Jumping Coach, and a Coac...h Educator (CE), who lives in Wilberforce, New South Wales. "I grew up in the Bellinger River Valley inland from Coffs Harbour northern NSW. The riding bug bit very early, when I was 2-3 years old ...luckily, my mother, Joyce, was a rider. In fact, she won her riding class at our local show when she was 6 months pregnant with me. My mother was President of the local Pony Pony club and was in the first group of accredited Pony Club Instructors. We moved to Sydney and I was horseless for a couple of years, which wasn't a happy time. Once we were back into it, I was off - pony club gymkhanas, shows, I rode in anything and everything I could. In my late teenage years, I started to ride more show jumping, although I kept eventing as a part-timer. The Thoroughbred was the king of performance horses then. We bred some warmbloods which became handy horses in jumping and eventing. I won State Pony Club Eventing Champs, Senior NSW Jumping Champs, VIC Showjumping Champs and Australian Jumping Champs. I didn't ever have many horses at a time and I was proud of them winning Champion Jumping Horse titles at the respective royals. I went on to represented Australia at one World Games, three World Cups and was reserve twice for the Seoul and Barcelona Olympic Games. I had two 3* eventers and one of the best jumpers in the land at one time, but it was hard to juggle the timetable...read more: https://www.equestrian.org.au/news/coach-month-colleen-brook Equestrian NSW #CoachoftheMonth #ridewithus #fortheloveofthehorse #showjumping

10.01.2022 Lizzie’s 30 year old quarter horse Silver Hollywood Charge, Cha to his admirers. 14.2h he is /was a wonderful athlete in any job. Sporting, hacking ,jumping, eventing ,anything you wanted to do he could it very well. He was a very good horse to sit on.His shape would enable him to carry a decent size person and work all day which is an old saying . Cha was bred at Wallerawang, just other side of Lithgow and we bought him when he was 12(?)Debbie Munday was his rider then and ...she still checks up on how he is.. With the quarter horse genes Cha could really spin and turn. He hardly ever knocked a jump down. If someone has one bit in a bigger version we would like another one.ha Lots of us had good ponies or horses in our youth , interesting to see the types and breeds. We salute them. See more

09.01.2022 I am not sure if I want to share such a private fact about myself but here goes. I cannot do one push up ........................................................................................but I can ride the strongest horse. There I have done it.

09.01.2022 Eric Lamaze makes two good points in his facebook post. First point was about covid. To wear a mask is not too difficult to be able to compete or to be at a competition. The second one was about how to manage big numbers to whittle down those who can qualfiyfor the grand Prix .Currently because of big numbers eg 252 horses, OC's need to divide into three groups over 3 different courses and the best x number from each to qualify for a GP.I always say you are canon fodder in thos...e classes until you get into the higher level with less numbers. Being popular is a problem sometimes.I miss the jump off routine. Go clear, come back jump some bigger fences in a graduated fashion . If you are clear you qualify to jump higher not like now where you can have 4 down and still go to 2nd phase. The only get out is the CD's don't make the 2nd phase any higher. I am an advocate for taller 2nd phase. See more

07.01.2022 A beautiful day after a storm last night. Hot but cool breeze all day , thank you again for the trees. Here are some of the crew. Front left to right Tash with her ‘ baby’’ Flossie, Lauren and Harriet. Back row, left to right. Liz , me and Katrina. Michelle in the presentation podium with first boy child Lincoln.... I am showing off Archi’s 6th ribbon. Two starts two ribbons. Plenty of riders in the ribbons again. Tash, Ludovic, Coralie, Harriet Chloe visiting from Wagga was 2nd in the Junior and Michelle was 2nd in the Ammys. Milly was the rug winner today in the 1.10m snd 2nd in the 1m. A big weekend but pleasant. Well done everyone today. See more

07.01.2022 Another big day at Waratah, SIEC. Bit of a hot day too.The main ring classes saw some great jumping.with Positive flowing tracks. Coco was in the ribbons again with Sapphire. Brad was placed in the 1.40m with his giant ,Oaks Caylpso. I had another win today in the 5/6 yr class with Connollys Kararchi the twin brother of yesterday’s winner Connollys Karuba..... Tori ran two placings with Equus Archer. Everyone tried and had a good go. There were some very well ridden rounds from our riders. Some light touch offs here and there dashed any hopes of a top 3 finish. Disappointing but great character building apparently. Charge on tomorrow. See more

05.01.2022 No not a girl , Andrew said he has to put the ribbon his head because the hirse flicks its tail so hard the ribbon flies out.

04.01.2022 The Jump Club ran a good training day Sunday. There was plenty of hand sanitiser and disinfectant on jump wings for everyone to use. Check in at the entry gate and repeated regular amenity cleaning. took a bit of organising and work from our Covoid officer . There were social distancing signs everywhere..... From the competitors side it wasn’t hard to comply with at all. Less people in the pr area which is a good thing , safety wise. Horses require social distancing generally! I have seen big crowds of people without any social distancing in town streets, supermarkets , big hardware stores etc. It doesnt take much to be responsible so we can continue. Back to jumping, the enforced rest for the turf arenas really showed, the ground was fantastic . It was such a beautiful day. Most of our crew were there enjoying the outing. Hopefully we can attend another day soon. See more

04.01.2022 More on horses. In times past there were only a few extra special horses. Milton for example , he was so light on his feet you could hardly hear him cantering around the course and he certainly didn’t knock many jumps down. Nowadays there are so many good horses, wonderful jumpers super athletes well trained and ridden .Whatever discipline you are in the level is high. One wonders where we go to now.

04.01.2022 Can I use a substitute for push ups.

03.01.2022 Former Australian Showjumping Champion and successful international jumping rider and EA level 3 coach, Colleen Brook is first and foremost a competitive rider.... Although having outstanding success in the ring, Colleen was and is always on the quest to improve her riding and her horses. For years she has consumed a great many books on riding and training and has the education and natural talent to take and implement what she has found useful. Our conversation with Colleen, although essentially about clicker training, includes excursions towards her training philosophy and techniques that have been tested successfully over time and are well worth knowing.
