06.01.2022 It has been nearly one year since Therese Harris and I went to Fiji to for breast cancer survivors with their breast forms and mastectomy bras. We arrived on 15...th March and concluded three fitting days in Labassa and Suva, before we were ordered to leave with Covid border closures. Normally our team tries to visit Fiji every six months. These beautiful mastectomy bras are generously donated by Colleen’s Lingerie in Canberra, Rita Sullivan from Knickerboxers Lingerie in Kiama and Amonea Melbourne. Gillian Horton, owner of Colleen’s Lingerie helped me this week to finish packing 23 boxes containing 285 mastectomy bras and 207 breast forms. Within those boxes were the pre-loved breast forms and mastectomy bras, scarves and turbans donated by breast cancer survivors in Australia and also from families who’d lost a loved one. Also collecting and donating were Champagne For Breakfast Lingerie Gold Coast, Tracey G Lingerie Brisbane, Suzanne Fraser from Wollongong and Bowral Cancer Centre - plus many other ladies who collect for us. Over the past 13 years we have provided hundreds of Fijian breast cancer survivors with the appropriate breast forms and mastectomy bras. None of this could be possibly without the generous support of their sisters in Australia. Please spread the word to any women in Australia who are updating their prosethetic breast (subsidised by Medicare every two years) and bras - we are very grateful to receive them for our ongoing work in Fiji. Due to border closures fittings will be conducted on both main islands of Fiji in April by CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society Belinda Chan and Oncology Sister Rashni Ali from CWM Hospital in Suva. The need is so great and our sisters in Fiji are so appreciative.
