22.01.2022 Tell us what you think about a Purple Book app We are looking for parents of newborn - 4 year olds to tell us what they think of a Purple Book app. All chi...ldren who are born in WA get a Purple Book to record things like their weight, height and Child Health appointments. We would like to understand if this would be easier to use and access as an app on your phone or device. The online consultations are being held on 1 December (10.30 - midday, 7pm - 8.30pm) online. You will receive a voucher for taking part. Register at the link below. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx

22.01.2022 We would like to say a BIG thank-you to South 32 for thier very kind donation to us last week. They were able to give us 40 litres of hand sanitiser, which will come in very handy for our staff and all our patients at the surgery! Things haven't changed much down here, we still ask that you have your temperature taken at the door and use the hand sanitiser (or a mask) before you enter. If you're unsure, just give us a call before you come down! 9734 4111.

18.01.2022 As of TODAY major changes are being made to the National Immunisation Program with Pneumococcal vaccines for seniors and Meningococcal B vaccines for Aboriginal... and Torres Strait Islanders (ATSI) and high risk groups. These infants at 2, 4, and 12 months of age will be vaccinated. An additional dose at 6 months of age is required for ATSI infants with specified medical risk conditions. Introduction of the vaccine will be supported by a catch-up program for all ATSI children aged under 2 years until 30 June 2023. For seniors, without risk conditions for pneumococcal disease should receive a single dose of Prevenar 13 at age 70 years. This age of receiving a dose of pneumococcal vaccination for older Australians has been moved to age 70 years from 65 years because pneumococcal disease is much more common in people over 70 years of age than in people aged 6569 years. Vaccination from 70 years of age will provide better protection as people move into older age groups with increasing pneumococcal disease risk

18.01.2022 2020 is Year of the nurse and the midwife. Here are some interesting facts..... Nurses and midwives provide a broad range of essential health services close to the community and in all levels of health facility. The world needs 18 million more health workers to achieve and sustain universal health coverage by 2030. Approximately half of that shortfall 9 million health workers are nurses and midwives. ... Globally, 70% of the health and social workforce are women. Nurses and midwives represent a large portion of this. Midwifery, where care includes proven interventions for maternal and newborn health as well as for family planning could avert over 80% of all maternal deaths, stillbirths and neonatal deaths. Thank-you to all the nurse in the world, especially our team here at CRVMC!

18.01.2022 Thank you for visiting :)

16.01.2022 Look out for these useful information cards around town.

15.01.2022 There are currently a number of gastroenteritis (gastro) cases in the South West which have been found to be caused by Norovirus. Norovirus is highly contagious... and is spread through close contact with people who are infected or through contaminated food, water or surfaces. It is important anyone who is unwell should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. It is important you wait for 48 hours after symptoms cease before going back to work or school. Symptoms of gastro include: diarrhoea nausea and vomiting headache, muscle aches, or joint aches fever or chills sweating or clammy skin abdominal cramps and pain loss of appetite You can reduce your risk of getting gastro by doing the following: Wash your hands often, especially after using the bathroom and before food preparation. Clean surfaces often. Don’t share kitchen utensils, plates, or towels if someone in your house is sick. Don’t eat raw or undercooked food. Wash fruit and vegetables thoroughly. Make sure you keep well hydrated and see your doctor if the symptoms don’t resolve or if you are concerned. The WA Country Health Service South West is always here to help should you require any emergency medical treatment or public health advice. For further information please contact Health Direct on 1800 022 222 or visit https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/N_R/Norovirus

10.01.2022 Peter's update on what our patients need to know. The key is to PHONE first on 9734 4111. Keeping everyone well and safe is key to our changes so please watch. From March 30th, everyone is able to have a phone/telehealth consultation. Other points - please keep your baby's immunisation up to date BUT phone first to book an appointment with the nurse; do not bring the whole family to the surgery (keep people to a minimum); early morning flu vaccine clinic for people 65+ (or ...other high risk patients) will be held daily from Tuesday, 7.30am-8.30am and finally, all patients that are attending our surgery need to be assessed before they enter the wait room by the staff member in the walkway or in their car. Keeping our community and our staff/doctors healthy is our number one priority. Social distance from others, self isolate, wash your hands and phone for advice. Wishing you all the best health :) See more

10.01.2022 Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Awareness Week. 21st - 27th September. AF causes 6000 Strokes per year so it is important to continue to raise awareness.

10.01.2022 Its OK to feel unsettled at the thought of your tiny baby having a needle. Its OK to wonder if vaccines will really help protect your child. Its OK to wan...t reassurance that vaccines really are safe. And its SO important that the information you seek comes from somewhere reputable. Somewhere that is evidence-based, that is not trying to sell you alternative products and treatments that they claim will protect your baby despite offering no substantial evidence. When looking at a resource, some really great questions to ask are: Who wrote it, and what qualifications do they have? Who published it? .gov and .edu sites are generally considered the most reliable. Is it up to date, and when was it last reviewed? Is it accurate, and based on research? Have they provided references? Lastly, we wanted to share some of the BEST evidence-based, Australian websites that we've found that can help answer most questions about immunisation. Australian Health Department booklet called Questions and Answers About Immunisation: http://bit.ly/QuestionsImmunisation An Australian website created by doctors & immunisation expert aimed at parents who have questions about immunisation: www.talkingaboutimmunisation.org.au The National Centre of Immunisation Research and Surveillance, Australias leading independent immunisation research organisation: http://www.ncirs.org.au/public Australias world-leading national vaccine safety system http://www.ausvaxsafety.org.au/ An unfunded Australian community organisation who have had their website accredited by the World Health Organisations Vaccine Safety Net: www.nrvs.info Australian Academy of Sciences video series on immunisation: http://bit.ly/AcademyImmunisation

09.01.2022 Wow - it's clear that increased hygiene, social distancing measures and lockdowns have had a BIG impact on a range of infectious diseases... not just COVID-19! ...Scroll through the images to see how the numbers of measles, whooping cough, influenza, pneumococcal and meningococcal cases have fallen in 2020 compared to similar time-periods in previous years. Quite a contrast!

09.01.2022 A message of thanks to all our nurses and midwives... https://youtu.be/u2xsV6j289Y

06.01.2022 There's no debate... #VaccinesSaveLives

06.01.2022 When making a decision about immunisation, it's good to look at the risks of the diseases vs the risks of the vaccine. This week, we're weighing up the effects ...of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) against the effects of the HPV vaccine. Of course, these risks outlined in our graphic have already been taken into consideration in the design of the National Immunisation Program, in which HPV vaccines are very clearly recommended. Here are 5 facts you may not know about HPV: Both males & females can contract HPV The vaccine has been tested and proven to help prevent cervical abnormalities which can develop into cervical cancer The vaccine works best if it is given before you're sexually active. You can be infected with HPV from one sexual partner, the first time you are sexually active There is no evidence that boys and girls who receive the vaccine have sex earlier than those who do not have the vaccine, and nor do they have more sexual partners once they became sexually active For more facts about HPV, this website has some great resources: http://www.hpvvaccine.org.au PS - Sorry for the warts pic, but we believe it's important to remove any mystery about vaccine-preventable diseases! #DiseaseVsVaccine #VaccinesWork #HPV #Humanpapillomavirus

The DEXA Assessment: - takes about 15 minutes. - is simple, painless and requires no needles. - no preparation is needed. - there is no need to get undressed, although belt buckles or metal buttons will need to be removed from the scanning area. The bus will be coming to Collie on the 31st August. We are almost booked out, and only have appointments left on Wednesday and Thursday, the 2nd & 3rd of September. 04.01.2022 TELEHEALTH STAGE SEVEN UPDATE: Please read the following update regarding phone consultations... ** To encourage patients to receive continuous care from their regular GP or medical practice, it is now a legislative requirement that GP's and other medical practitioners working in general practice can only use the COVID-19 MBS items for telehealth or telephone services where they are the patient's 'usual medical practitioner' **... Therefore, if you need to book a telephone consultation, give us a call and we will make sure it's with your usual doctor. You will no longer be able to book them online, so we can make sure we follow this change. 97344111 We hope you are enjoying the lovely Sunshine today!
