25.01.2022 We love the Human Kind book series by Zanni Louise and gorgeously illustrated by Missy Turner. The books provide a framework to talk to children about the importance of values in everyday life. Discussion questions and real world examples are at the back of each picture book. Honesty and Persistence are out now with Courage due in September. Persistence is something all Melbournians are having to develop over these tough weeks in isolation. This August we will be selli...ng Persistence at special price of $14.99, with an awesome badge for the first seven purchases. When you are persistent, you can deal with challenges. - Zanni Louise @ Moonee Ponds, Victoria See more

25.01.2022 Who can believe it was only two years ago that Boy Swallows Universe took Australia by storm. The phone has been ringing off the hook today as people have been rushing to get their hands on Trent Dalton's latest novel, All Our Shimmering Skies. It's going to be another smash hit, and Trent's beautiful writing deserves all the adulation.... See more

24.01.2022 Staff Pick - Fantine recommends The Adversary by Ronnie Scott The Adversary takes place over a sticky Melbourne summer when schools are on break and there is nothing to do but wait for the cool change and blame bad decisions on heatstroke. In a townhouse just off Lygon street a young mans routine of cold showers and cheap wine is intercepted by his concerned roommate who urges him to do something, anything, this summer. This is an eloquent and gripping exploration ...of inner-city restlessness, the complexities of queer friendships and the looming expiration of acceptable young adult nonchalance. Witty, genuine, and incredibly relatable I enjoyed this immensely and cannot wait to read more from this author. - Fantine, bookseller #bookstagram #bookrecommendation #bookreview See more

24.01.2022 We were so excited to meet local author Ainslee Costa today. Our first author visit since the restrictions lifted. Her book 'My Suburban Farm' is the story of turning her backyard into a sustainable, chicken-filled, creative slice of the country in inner city Melbourne. We have signed copies of her beautiful book in store while stocks last.

24.01.2022 Staff Pick - Kat recommends Latitudes of Longing by Shubhangi Swarup ‘One of the best reads if 2020 for me. A sweeping, beautifully written novel in four parts. These loosley connected characters are pulled together through their relationship with the land from a botanist in the Andaman Islands of newly independent 1950s India where colonial ghosts spill out of the land, to the no-mans-land of shifting Himalayan glaciers and likewise changing territories that disrupt the home of the Yeti. Swarup has written a luscious, meditative book on and along the fault lines of the Himalayas. The earth, and its moving plates, are as much a character as any other, and they are all characters you’ll be sorry to leave. On finishing the last page, i wanted to flip immediately to the first and start again.'

23.01.2022 Unfortunately, weve had to postpone the Jacqueline Harvey event scheduled for this Thursday. Well still be judging the colouring competion, so if you can, you still have time to get your entries in before we announce the winner on the 18th! Were sad to miss the lovely Jacqueline, but well see her for a event in the future. Take care.

20.01.2022 Staff Pick - Cath recommends Fifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh 'Two sisters are on trail for murder and both are accusing each other. Who do you believe? 16.01.2022 Staff pic - Fantine recommends The Spill by Imbi Neeme 'A stunning debut centred on sisters Nicole and Samantha's chaotic relationship with their alcoholic mother, and the car accident 49 years ago that shaped their lives. As adults their grief for their mother brings old memories to the surface and the sisters begin to understand the ripple effect of certain events and see their mother in a new light. Effortlessly jumping back and forth through childhood, adolescence ...and adulthood, Neeme does a beautiful job understanding and exploring the unreliability of memory and the depth and complexity of mother-daughter relationships. A must read of 2020.' - Fantine, Bookseller #bookstagram #bookrecomendation #bookreview

15.01.2022 Staff Pick - Kat recommends The Octopus and I by Erin Hortle Seven years ago Lucy moved to Tasmania for a marketing job at a Tassy Devil reservation park. In that time she has had and recovered from breast and ovarian cancer, and is now recalibrating to the world and, specifically, to her new breasts. But after a traumatic event disfigures her still healing body, Lucys life and body become inextricably intertwined with octopuses- the creature at the centre of the tra...uma. 15.01.2022 Staff pic - Kate reccomends The Unadoptables by Hanna Tooke and illustrated by Ayesha L. Rubio. One of my favourite junior fiction books of the year. Set in Amsterdam in 1880, you met five unforgettable characters, Milou, Sem, Fenna, Egg and Lotta as they escape from the horrid Little Tulip orphanage. Packed to the brim with adventure, mystery, pirate ships, puppets and heart. I had the pleasure of reading this book at the same time as my ten-year-old nephew Aidan. W...hen I asked him what his favourite part of the book was he answered "Hard to say, I like everything about this book." The gothic illustrations by Ayesha L. Rubio are a wonderful addition to this charming story. Perfect for anyone who likes Neil Gaiman or Lemony Snicket.
