25.01.2022 If you have kids craving some long-awaited playground time, there will be happy days next week (Mr 7 in our house has reached full meltdown level each time we drive past a taped-off set of swings ). Easing of COVID restrictions will see recommencement of a number of activities listed in the Shires post below. As things begin to feel more normal, just remember to observe social distancing and good hygiene to keep you and your family healthy

24.01.2022 From little things, big things grow From community concerns, to meetings, rallies, deputations (and in my case, a hesitant election campaign!), we really have joined together as a strong, informed and resilient community to fight this plan. So proud of Save Perth Hills, so proud of the Councillors who voted to refuse SP34 last year, of the ratepayer groups and community for speaking out, turning up and sharing your stories. Thank you to Matthew Hughes Member for Kalamunda,... Tim Clifford MLC and Ken Wyatt for your support. SP34 was refused today. It may be challenged, and we need the WAPC to follow through with rezoning, so that this fight does not go on for another 26 years. But tonight we celebrate a community victory and gosh I will sleep soundly after the last 18 months! With love to our beautiful Hills community, Amy

24.01.2022 A night in for me With big things ahead on Tuesday... WAPC meets to decide on the future of SP34 North Stoneville - I will be presenting on behalf of the Shire with President John Daw. Satterley and Save Perth Hills have also been allocated 30 minutes each. Tuesday night at Council, we debate the 20/21 Budget including Covid-19 Relief and Recovery Fund.

22.01.2022 If you are out and about in Midland, looking for a meal, drop into Grilled at Midland Gate and put your tokens in the jar for the Mount Helena Swim Club. This growing Hills Club, run by locals, meets at the Mount Helena Pool adjacent to Eastern Hills High School. If you have not been to the Mount Helena Pool, check it out this summer. It is a small, welcoming place, with disability access, a wading pool for little people, picnic facilities and shady grassed areas. Apart from the Swimming Club for training and competition, kids can also undertake WA Government Swimming Lessons at the pool too!

22.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing our beautiful Mundaring Arts Centre back up and running on Tuesday!

21.01.2022 On this beautiful Sunday, follow the yellow brick road.. or maybe the Perth Hills Artisan Markets trail. With local art, food, jewellery and most importantly coffee on a sunny drive around the Hills

20.01.2022 What a brilliant night for Halloween!! Last night we joined in the fun at the Darlington Bonfire. There was a skate park competition, the Scouts’ inflatable obstacle course, the annual tug-of-war, Halloween costume judging and, of course, a HUGE Bonfire helping to lower the fuel load of surrounding bushland and demonstrate the skills of the local volunteer emergency services! The winner of the Halloween costume parade was the very ‘witchy’ Chloe Kozak Chloe had the... excitement of helping the Brigade light the bonfire. The whole Kozak family was decked out in awesome spooky costumes!! Well done to the Darlington Sports & Recreation Association for organising this excellent event, and to the contributors/supporters including the Darlington Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Mundaring SES, Scouts WA, Helena College and the Shire of Mundaring.

20.01.2022 Public submissions - Structure Plan 79 Last year, the land known as the Parkerville Farm, bounded by Roland, Kilburn and Brindle Roads in Parkerville was rezoned by the State Government from Rural to Urban under the State Metropolitan Regional Scheme. (This is not North Stoneville, it is south of that location and a different structure plan application). ... The developer has now lodged an application for a Structure Plan over the land, which guides the overall planning, infrastructure (eg. Roads, waste water), environmental, social and heritage issues. You may view these documents on the Shire Public Notice Page in the comments below. Members of the public can make a submission via the link on the public notice on or before 7 August. Remember to try to frame your submission with regard to planning matters, so that they help inform the decision-making process - ie. Roads/traffic, layout, environment, waterways, heritage, amenity, views, location etc.

16.01.2022 Read below... This week is Bookweek! Parents all through the Shire are cursing costumes, but loving the cute photos after all the effort. My Miss 10 went as the Childlike Empress, from the Neverending Story. A quote from the book struck me as so pertinent to the world right now. When discussing how mankind losing their hopes, dreams and imagination, is destroying the magical world of ‘Fantasia’, the nasty ‘G’mork’ snarls at the hero Atreyu.. ‘People who have no hopes are ea...sy to control, and whoever has the control, has the power’. Teaching kids to use their imagination is vital, especially now in the age of iPads and Netflix! Teaching them to be assertive, to challenge ways of thinking and be innovative, creates adults who do the same. Without the big thinkers, those who challenge the way we do things, who imagine a better world, we are powerless as a people Big thinking for a Monday morning #raisefutureleaders

16.01.2022 Hi! My names Kyra and Im a year 9 student. I am helping a small charity called Care Bags as a school project. Care Bags support children entering care. The ...bags are filled with essential items and given to the child on arrival with their new carer. Children often enter care under circumstances that can be quite traumatic, and at times, have little more that the clothes they are wearing. A care bag, when given to a child, sends a strong, positive message that they are valued, and that people do care about them. How can you help? Either: 1. Create a complete care bag for a child. 2. Drop off an item that can go towards a care bag 3. Like and share the Facebook page (Care Bags- because children in care matter) If you and your family would like to make a donation of a whole Care Bag, or individual items to be used to create a Care Bag, it would be greatly appreciated. Please check the picture below for the checklist. Drop off point is at Cafe Mojo, Mundaring! Thankyou

15.01.2022 11 August 2020 6:30pm Ordinary Council Meeting Please find a snapshot of the agenda and the full link in the comments. Councillor Toni Burbidge has been working with the locals in Parkerville regarding a request for a pedestrian crossing on Seabourne Rd (Heritage Trail in Townsite centre). Toni has moved a Notice of Motion to note the community support for safety measures at this location (ongoing petition at The Parky Pitstop and online) and refer to t...he CEO for action. I met with locals there recently and my concerns were confirmed, watching large trucks and motorists speeding at around 80km/hr past the main school bus stop, general store and heritage trail. While a local Shire road, there are shared responsibilities for crossings, signage etc with Dept. of Main Roads. Well done to community for identifying a safety issues and working with Council to identify possible action.

12.01.2022 I was honoured to meet Premier Mark McGowan last week at the opening of Matthew Hughes bright, new and fully accessible office, in Kalamunda Central. The Premier was aware of the WAPC decision to reject SP34 at North Stoneville recently. Shire President John Daw and I raised the Councils recent request to rezone the land back to Rural, to achieve a level of development which is more appropriate, 20 years on, in an environment at risk, with a changing climate and more frequ...ent bushfires. We briefly chatted about the alternatives for growth. I want to spark more discussion in our Shire about our collective vision, identified recently in our Community Strategic Plan, as the Sustainable place to live. What is your vision for the Shire? What style and location of housing is important to you now and in the future? What industries and businesses do you envisage as sustainable here, environmentally and economically? What needs protecting? What is missing? Comment, message or email me with your thoughts. Amy

12.01.2022 It’s been a challenging year, and many people in our Shire have stepped up in service and commitment to the community. We all know those people, businesses and community groups, who go above and beyond, either this year, or over many years. This is your chance to nominate them for the Shire of Mundaring Citizenship Awards 2020. There are four categories, Rising Star (under 25), Inspirational Volunteer, Long Service and Access Mundaring (diversity and inclusion). I have provided the link to the nominations form and info in the comments below.

09.01.2022 UPDATE Friday 31 July Yesterday the JDAP voted to approve the Place of Worship on Seabourne Street, Parkerville (3 votes to 2). I commend Councillors Kate Driver and Toni Burbidge for their work carefully considering this application, listening to a concerned local community and voting against this motion. ... The decision required Discretion under our Local Planning Scheme 4, to approve a Place of Worship in a Rural Residential Zone. Both Councillors noted the Regional size, scale and nature of the proposed Brethren meeting hall, the impact on surrounding amenity and traffic safety. I note historically, Shire of Mundaring wanted Places of Worship to be an X use (not allowed) in rural residential areas, but this was overridden by the State when our LPS was approved in 2014, making them an A use (Discretion). Id like to see the State Government step up now and ensure an upgrade of the intersection of Seabourne and Great Eastern Highway, which is the site of many accidents, despite the work last year. Parkerville is seeing a surge in development and the traffic safety must be addressed. My special thanks to the dedicated Stoneville and Parkerville Progress Association Committee, especially Joanne Sheil and Greg Jones, who spent days of their time helping residents to understand the proposal and prepare submissions/deputations, especially concerned elderly residents. X Cr Collins - Following a few enquires, I just wanted to post some info about the upcoming decision meeting for the proposed Place of Worship (295 Seabourne Road, Parkerville). The JDAP Determination meeting is scheduled for 9:30am Thursday 30th July, in Council Chambers at the Shire of Mundaring. The reports for the meeting should be available this Thursday vis the JDAP link in the comments. This planning decision is not made by our Shire. It will be determined by a Joint Development Assessment Panel for our region, which consists of 3 professional members and 2 local Councillors. Public submissions have already closed on this matter, however, you may apply to the JDAP Secretariat to make a 5 minute presentation at the meeting, by using the form I have linked in the comments below. Please be advised that while the meeting is open to the public, spaces are limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and the public will be seated in the Civic Area adjacent to Chambers. You can contact the JDAP Secretariat on (08) 6551 9919 or via [email protected]

Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council CEO Marcus Geisler used some great props to explain the different Food Organics and Garden Organics Processing Options. ... Instead of ending up in landfill, organics (food, garden and pet waste) from our households and businesses can be composted. A number of high-tech methods can create a saleable garden/farming product and gas to generate power, or even fuel future rubbish trucks!
