If you zoom in on this image, you may notice the Burke and Wills Statue in the middle of the road. It was unveiled in 1861 but with the growth of traffic and the laying of tram tracks, it was removed in 1886 and placed in a reserve on Spring Street, opposite Parliament House. In 1979 it was moved to the corner of Swanston and Collins in City Square and was moved... again in 1994 after some restoration work. The statue is currently in storage due to the Metro Tunnel works. #onlyoncollins : State Library of NSW
