22.01.2022 Why is it soooooooo hard to find the right WHITE??? Firstly, as the photo of just 1 of my WHITE fandecks shows, there is a lot of choice! And secondly white rea...lly isn't just white, and that's where things can start to get difficult. Warm white, cool white, grey tones, green tones, blue/pink/purple shades....given the tiny amounts of colour in 'white' paint it doesn't take much to for the other materials in a room to throw off the colour of the white and turn it in a direction you just don't want to go. Clashing between the 'white' tiles, 'white' stone bench tops, 'white' laminate cabinetry and 'white' walls happens all too easily and before you know it the beautiful, light, bright style you saw in a magazine is looking flat, dull and sterile in your living room. 12.01.2022 Part 2 - Choosing the right WHITE! The white saga continues, keep reading and you'll be a colour expert and I'll be out of a job! RULE 1 - BE OPEN-MINDED ... Maybe you've found a sample or seen it a friend's house and are certain its the right option for your place too. Always check any colour with a sample in the actual location where it will be used! WHY???? Because the light will be different and therefore the colour could look very different to what you're expecting. So grab a few colour charts from your local paint shop (it's FREE!), take them home and see how they react to the light. Eliminate the ones that don't work. RULE 2 - CHECK IT AGAINST ALL THE OTHER MATERIALS This means - window frames, doors, cabinetry, bench tops, floor finishes, and any other features of the area you're painting. The same goes for exterior painting. It's surprising how many people don't do this and therefore the wall colour clashes with the cupboards or the floorboards etc. Expert tip - Always check the ceiling too, don't take it for granted that it is straight white. Again eliminate the whites that don't work, by now you should confidently be down to 2 or 3 options. So pop down to the local paint shop and get 2 sample pots MAX! RULE 3 - BE SENSIBLE WITH SAMPLE POTS If you're up to your 5th sample pot and are still not sure, STOP! Call in a colour consultant because you're only going to rack up a fortune in 250ml increments, better off to get the experts in if your still despairing and keeping yourself awake at night.
