09.01.2022 How to handle media interview requests like a boss.. This is Peter Rockliff, the skipper who called for help after his deckhand went missing while fishing off Double Island Point this week. With fears he'd fallen overboard there was naturally a massive air and sea search. Turns out the deckie was hiding in a tiny compartment on board the whole time. ... Now instead of the 'no comment' response he could have made, Peter spoke to the news crews and showed them around his boat. He talked about his initial fear for his deckhand, his worries and own anger of the wasted resources. It's a great example of how to take ownership of the story, ensuring your message is heard. Silence isn't always golden.
09.01.2022 A timely tip as we hit the half way mark of the election campaign #clivescomeback #steveandthestripper but a good reminder for everyone.. a journalist answers only to their audience. 05.01.2022 Think of the stories you regularly seen in the news.. you’ll notice patterns. The stories that are ‘of interest to everyone’ will pop up more often.. and what’s of interest to everyone I hear you say? The economy, housing, driving, health care, anything to do with the care and safety of kids, anything to do with the wellbeing of the elderly.. can you see what we mean?? If you’re an expert in any of these topics you’re in pole position to be an authoritative voice in these s...tories.
05.01.2022 For regional newsrooms with Monday to Friday bulletins (television and radio), you’ll need to give extra notice of weekend events. A list of what the producer wants covered across Saturday and Sunday is given to a camera operator on Friday afternoons. So get your requests in before then! A Sunday morning phone call or email will go unanswered.
05.01.2022 Professions to listen up .. financial planners mortgage brokers real estate agents accountants ... insurance brokers Some shocking conduct has been revealed by the Banking Royal Commission and now recommendations are being made. When putting together a news story a journalist will ask ‘what does this mean for people at home’ and it’s a chance for experts to give their thoughts, explanations and advice. If you’re in any of the above professions perhaps you can you offer your voice to the conversation.
