11.01.2022 Bludgeoned with a hatchet and close to death Prior to being helped off by a passerby, he had been attacked with a hatchet in the back of the head in a callous, ...cowardly attack... His scalp was a gaping mess, hot blood oozed down the back of his neck as he was rushed to the emergency department of the hospital. If it wasnt for the help of complete strangers that night, Johnny Callaghan would be a memory and another statistic of street violence in Perth. Johnny survived and recovered. After the attack, he made the conscious decision to pick up a martial art and learn self defence. He started Muay Thai and has not looked back. Since moving across to Champions Gym, Johnny has worked relentlessly to sharpen and dedicate himself as a martial artist. He has won five out of his last five outings, with his most notable accomplishment on the card of Roots Rebellion in November 2019 winning against Victorian local Ryan Shepherd. Johnny is no stranger to competitiveness, growing up alongside multi-time state and national champion-sister Victoria Sullivan. The bloodline consisting of Filipino and Irish heritage makes for an exciting combination of hunger, athleticism and skill. Johnny now sets his sights on winning the state title crown as a welterweight and seeing how far he can go in the Muay Thai world. Johnny also wants to be a living example of bouncing back from a near death experience as well as the importance of learning self defence to never be a victim again. For five rounds these men went toe-to-toe back and forth and gave the fa...ns what they paid to see I thought Joe had sealed the win, but the judges saw it the other way... These two could fight 10 times and every time it would be exhilarating Nonetheless, an absolute dream main event, taking nothing away from the new champion Eddy D’Uva and Team Riddler. Enjoy the victory In the semi-main event Brant Soden defeated Nelson Laki in another cracker match up. Plus an amazing, edge of your seat undercard with some pure talent and futures of the sport.
