22.01.2022 A big thanks to Gold Coast Barges (Greg, Ingrid, Tracy, Harley, Tim) for your excellent support services during our recent project on the Brisbane River. Dumbo and Kirra were excellent work platforms. Added to this, your problem solving, efficiency and professionalism made working with you a pleasure. Have added a couple more photographs of the archaeological team with the wet sieve you designed and installed on Dumbo. (Thanks Chris from our team for the group selfy!)

21.01.2022 Smoking Ceremony at Griffith by Elder Uncle James Williams Senior What a great experience for us all!! What is a Smoking Ceremony? A smoking ceremony involves burning Australian native vegetation to produce smoke. The smoke has cleansing and healing properties, and protects people, the land, waters, and sea from bad spirits. #smokingceremony #aboriginalarchaeology #griffith #archaeology

06.01.2022 Survey at Milperra - we are not always digging.

04.01.2022 Join us at a great site.We had the privilege of uncovering some amazing archaeology at the Parramatta North Heritage Precinct. The open day is on the 19th of May 2018, Starting at 10:00 am- 3:00 pm and its free. So why not come down and learn about a wonderful history whilst enjoying the the open space. Join a tour and listen to talks about the recent archaeological discoveries and see a demonstration of stone tool making.

02.01.2022 Why do we dig 1m x 1m squares and why do we sieve? Digging in 1m x 1m squares maintains scientific accuracy. Not only are we retrieving artefacts but we record the stratigraphy and are recording information about the soil, the location of the artefacts, and their relationship to other features or artefacts within the trench. We also excavate within that square in 5cm layers (which are called spits). All the information is recorded for each square and each spit. Maintaining... this control makes analyses easier and enables us to analyse the trench with accuracy and undertake micro-analyses. If we find evidence of occupation we keep extending the trench by 1m x 1m squares until no further evidence is uncovered. We sieve all excavated material through 3mm mesh to retrieve artefacts and organic material. If the artefacts are very small we switch to a 1mm mesh. Comber Consultants has a sieve that recycles water and is pumped out either weekly or twice a week, depending on how much digging we are undertaking...and why do we love to sieve undercover? We can keep going no matter what the weather. It can be windy, rainy or really hot but we can keep cool and calm undercover.

02.01.2022 Team work! Because good recording of photos without shadows are important at all costs!

01.01.2022 Wishing Carol a very happy on-site birthday from all of us here at Comber Consultants!
