25.01.2022 The Combined Art Societies of Sydney are holding a fund raising on line sale. All their fund raising events for 2020 had to be cancelled, and they needed some f...unds to be able to run the 2021 events planned. With the help of some very generous Artists who have donated their original art work to CASS they are selling all work donated in an online super sale for the same price of $100.00 each. The sale will start on the 26th June and continue until the 26th July. I hope you will support them by having a look to view, and a possible purchase.

24.01.2022 The Combined Art Societies of Sydney have decided to postpone activities for 2020 as a result of the uncertainty in the world at present. Art at the Top, the wonderful weekend of workshops has been postponed until further notice. The Art in the Mountains exhibition that was to be held at the ONE88 Gallery in Katoomba in August has been re-scheduled for the same time next year. ... Art Direct, the CASS sponsored open studio art trail, which usually takes place in October has also been deferred until 2021. Updates will be posted on our main web site www.combinedartsocieties.com as we receive them. Thank you for your support and please stay safe and keep well. CASS Committee

07.01.2022 We've received artworks this week from artists entering more than one of our annual prizes; their versatility stretching from portraiture to landscape to sculpt...ure to genre painting. Some artists shift their styles radically depending on the format, and others maintain a consistent aesthetic no matter the medium or subject matter. These paintings are by Judy Cassab, who was born #onthisday in 1920. Though the first piece is an abstract, while the second and third are portraits, Cassab's distinctive hand shows through in the intense textures, striking colour palettes and segmented, angular compositions. Cassab won the #ArchibaldPrize twice the first woman to do so with these portraits of Stanislaus Rapotec in 1960, and Margo Lewers in 1967. The first work, 'Winter', comes from 1970, during a period when Cassab was consciously experimenting in abstract directions. Within the Gallery's collection are more explorations through style and form: still life paintings from the 1950s, lively travel sketches from 1989, and desert landscape drawings from the 1990s and beyond. If you'd like inspiration to expand the scope of your creativity, browse more than 60 of these rich and expressive works by Judy Cassab in our collection online: https://bit.ly/2Ft30n5. Recently, Cassab's personal archive was also donated to the National Art Archive at the Gallery, and you can read more about her journeys in life and art with Together In Art: https://bit.ly/2Y5TRHz Artworks: Judy Cassab 'Winter' 1970, gift of the artist 1971; 'Stanislaus Rapotec' 1960, purchased 1961; 'Portrait of Margo Lewers' 1967, purchased 1968. All from the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and AGNSW. #otd

01.01.2022 There’s still time to pick up a great bargain - you won’t see prices like this again for these original artworks, kindly donated to the Combined Art Societies of Sydney to help raise funds for next year’s events.
