18.01.2022 What an incredible few days marking Dying to Know in the South West. Community members came together to share, connect and consider their own mortality. We discussed end-of-life plans such as funerals, Advance Care Planning, organ donation, Voluntary Assisted Dying, palliative care, community support, grief, wills, the role of children and an array of other topics. We laughed, we cried and we cared. Dying to Know Day is a global movement and it's all about improving our commu...nity's 'death literacy'. It's encouraging people to start and continue conversations with those around them about their wishes. We all die and we all need support and to support each other more. Thank you to everyone who attended and played a vital part in making the South West a compassionate community! Led by the wonderful Deb Wraight, these activities were made possible through the hard work of our volunteer committee and with the support of: William Barrett and Sons Making Memories with Deb South West Grief & Loss Centre Hancock Memorials WA Primary Health Alliance Palliative Care WA Dr Zaki Dorkham Edith Cowan University (ECU) Learning Hub Maker + Co St Aidan's Winery Ferguson Valley Henry Openshaw (photographer) Harvey History Online Archer and Sons Funeral Homes Brain Spice Dolphin Discovery Centre Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science La Trobe University Coles The GroundSwell Project

04.01.2022 "One of the reasons why I went into palliative care was to have some control over the words spoken between two human beings. Professionally, if I can lead deepl...y emotional conversations with positive words, I have a sense of accomplishment. Its an exercise of taking the harmful words said against me, and mirroring them out in the opposite way." See more

03.01.2022 "At times, it seems compassion is rendered a mere platitude within clinical practice and policy discourse. If compassion is the foundation of compassionate care..., an important question for palliative care research, then, is: how strong is our understanding and evidence base for compassion, itself?" An excellent article by self-care expert and PCA friend, Dr Jason Mills, on the need to better understand compassion in palliative care.

03.01.2022 All events are open to everyone and no registration required. See you there.
