25.01.2022 Some street racing history. Hard to believe this was 26 years ago...

25.01.2022 Holden V8 4 Bolt Main Bearing caps back in stock. These are still the best cap design for production Holden V8 blocks from 1969-99. Forget girdles and flat cap conversions. You need to forget the splayed cap idea for Holden V8 factory blocks as well. There is simply insufficient material in the main bulkhead region of the block to support a splayed outer bolt. Our solution was always a stepped cap which necessitates a more involved cap register milling process but it is more ...than worth the effort. The stepped cap registers provide incredible strength and zero movement of the caps both horizontally and and on an axial plane...they will simply not move providing incredible crankshaft support even under the most severe loads or extreme rpm levels. We always recommend the fitting of our 4 bolt caps for any Holden V8 making over 500 flywheel horsepower. See our web site for more details. With the advent of our new cast iron Holden block we have achieved economies of scale with the production volume of our 4 bolt main caps. A significant price drop for these down to $375.00 a set of 3 including the outer cap screw fasteners.

24.01.2022 COME Racing billet 4340 steel plate H beam con rods. Our rods are made from billet steel plate and not mass produced forgings. This provides a finished set of rods that are 100% consistent in weight and all dimensions. Each set is balanced fully and finish honed on fully automatic Sunnen honing machines for perfect consistency. Our 5.7" rods feature Chev 2.1" rod journal size, ARP 8740 7/16" bolts and are the latest in "stroker" design which significantly reduces block cleara...ncing grinding time with our popular 383ci cranks and totally eliminates clearance grinding in VR-VT Commodore Holden V8 blocks with our 355ci cranks. There will still be clearancing required in earlier blocks but the amount required due to the new rod design is significantly reduced. These rods are $1100.00 a set plus freight. We also have our 5.850" length rods with ARP 3/8" 2000 Series bolts in non stroker conventional design for $990.00 a set plus freight. Trade and engine builder enquiries welcome. 16.01.2022 Building a maximum power Holden V8? COME Billet steel cranks and billet 4340 steel plate rods should be your only choice. Our billet 4340 steel cranks are... 1) Available in 3.484" (355) ... 3.750" (383) strokes in stock. 2) The strongest cranks by a huge margin over anything else available. Twice the strength of forged steel due to straight uninterrupted material grain flow versus twisted and forged steel. 3) Easiest to balance internally with our exclusive 8 counterweight, large flywheel flange design. 4) Are all made with 2.1" Chev Small Block rod journals and factory style knurled rope rear main seal journal surface. Fitted correctly the rope seal is still the best choice for leakage prevention. 5) Fully nitride heat treated with cross drilled mains. 6) Are $2750.00 for either stroke. Our billet steel plate "H" beam "Stroker" design con rods are available in 5.7" and 5.850" lengths. They are... 1) The absolute most consistently made rods in the industry. These are not forgings and as such have the same straight material grain flow advantages as our billet steel cranks. Perfectly matched weights right off the machining centre. 2) True Stroker design providing very significantly reduced clearancing required which reduces labour times as well as the possibility of breaking through water jackets. The fact is...a 355 crank and these rods requires ZERO clearancing on VR, VS or VT blocks and only minimal clearancing for the 383. 3) Are fitted with ARP8740 7/16" rod bolts. Rods are final blueprint Sunnen honed to provide .0025" vertical oil clearance with our crank journals. No reworking as is often the case with aftermarket rods. 4) Rods in balanced sets are $1200.00 Buy both crank and rods together for $3500.00 and save $450.00

16.01.2022 Just so people are aware...COME Racing is doing a deal for the sale of our full machine shop. This means we will no longer be building engines from around July 2017. However, everyone should also be aware that our crankshaft and con rod business will be continuing in terms of supply and sale of all the components we have developed over so many years. We will continue to supply our cranks and rods to suit Holden V8 and the LS Chev V8s. As well as this balanced rotating assemb...lies..."Stroker kits" will continue to be supplied as we have done for the past 30 years. We do not want these products to simply disappear and to that end we will continue to operate COME Racing primarily as a parts supplier and not an engine building business. Our alloy parts business will also continue so we will continue to make our alloy heads and intake manifolds to suit Holden V8 engines. The fact is we had interested parties who wanted to take over these parts lines but no one stepped up to the plate so to speak, so we will continue on our normal path until such time as we can no longer do so or someone decides to take over our product lines.

15.01.2022 396ci Holden Stroker EFI just cruising on the dyno...This engine will be great on fuel in highway use getting too and from the strip. Using the stock Delco ECU and normal closed loop operation controlled by the O2 sensor while in cruise or light to medium throttle percentages. Fuel efficiency is still totally feasible with hot engines today, even the old Holden V8.

13.01.2022 Some problems with my video editing system has created a delay in the mastering and uploading of any of the new historical COME videos - be patient , they are coming.. I just have to hit the computer with something heavy like a 871 .. the workshop dog

12.01.2022 A breakthrough for those of you out there intent on avoiding clearancing your cylinder block into the water jackets but wanting the strength of an "H" beam con rod in your 383 Holden V8. After extensive development effort we have designed and manufactured our latest 4340 billet steel "H" beam rods in a "stroker" version without sacrificing ANY strength and durability in the process. Now you can buy this "Premium" 383 stroker kit which comes with our normal super strong 8 coun...terweight nodular cast iron 3.750" stroke crankshaft, our new billet stroker design "H" beam 4340 steel rods with ARP 8740 7/16" bolts, Probe or Wiseco custom forged -10cc dish pistons for full floating small end use, Hastings/Engine Pro moly piston rings, King rod and main bearings. As always the entire rotating assembly is internally balanced with no additional balancing required. When you receive this kit have your block machined and just bolt it in. We can fully machine your block for you if you are not close to a suitable machine shop. Call us for details. Many engine builders and enthusiasts over the years have avoided building 383ci Holden engines because of the problem of clearancing into the water jackets. This meant welding of bulkheads in the main cap area of the block and the filling of the block water jackets to the bottom of welsh plug holes with Epirez machinery grout. This new 383 kit totally negates the need for this to be done. Now you will simply be clearancing your block to the same level as if you were building a 355ci Stroker with "H" beam rods. This is a big breakthrough and will give many the confidence to move up the capacity ladder to the 383ci version. Frankly with all the wonderful heads and manifolds we have available, the Holden V8 is now more than effectively induction fed to justify the move to the "bigger" capacity engines. These 383ci Holden Stroker kits are available fully balanced for $3000.00 or unbalanced (for those preferring to have this done locally in the shop of their choice) for $2700.00

12.01.2022 The last engine on the COME Racing Dyno... 396ci Holden V8, COME 590 alloy heads, COME 4BT EFI single 4 barrel, single plane manifold with billet 1300cfm throttle body, COME CSBR-416 hydraulic roller cam (216/220 @ .050"). Engine application...daily drive, towing torque monster. Delco factory computer tuned with Kalmaker software.

11.01.2022 Its been too long between races for the boys. As the guys have said, the long inactivity at Calder Park for professional Drag Racing has led to the boys deciding to sell their most famous cars. The Oldsmobile COME Cutlass and legendary yellow COME Torana are unfortunately now for sale. ... Serious enquiries should only be made direct to the workshop by phone on (03) 9555-7308 or email on [email protected] Recent refurbishments and the chance to have the cars configured in nearly any combo you can negotiate - could easily see these well sorted cars reminding everyone why they have been so feared and respected across many years of racing. Chances like this do not come often .. (Image is a proposed "T" shirt transfer of the Oldsmobile done by the Moth for the guys) - The (sad) workshop dog .. :(

11.01.2022 Finally our Holden EFI V8 Twin Throttle Body manifolds are back in stock. They are $3600.00 complete with our cast alloy intake snorkel, accelerator cable bracket, all brass water and vacuum fittings, idle air passage brass filter, Speedflow dash 8 fittings alloy weldments and braided hose to convert the solid factory fuel line to a flexible braided setup to clear our dual 58mm billet throttle body. These manifolds have always been the most effective power/ torque makers for the Holden V8 and are ideal for all size stroker engines. You dont need to scour Ebay for used one any longer. They are once again available brand new. Note that we also supply stands and bolts to allow you to mount your original fuel rails straight on. All your original GMH sensors screw straight on including TPS, IAC, MAT and CLT sensors.

09.01.2022 First machining steps of our new cast iron Holden V8 cylinder block. Jigs being designed and made, tooling being sourced and custom made, CNC software programs being final written. Its not a quick process but it is proceeding as quickly as possible. The integrity of the block casting is the most important outcome we are looking to achieve consistently. We wont know if this is in fact a reality till all machining is complete.

09.01.2022 COME Racing Holden V8 cast iron cylinder block first test castings. It will still be a while yet before these are available for sale but we have finally turned the corner ensuring this block will be a reality.

Tuned using HP Tuners software. In room power 606 bhp @ 5750 rpm and 596 ft.lbs torque @ 4750 rpm. This is a pretty simple to emulate combination which would make an incredible heavy street car performer. For those who like to see corrected power for a perfect weather day this was 617 bhp @ 5750 rpm and 606 ft.lbs torque @ 4750 All testing was done on our Superflow 901 dyno at an acceleration rate of 600 rpm per second. This engine is ready and available for sale right now. Ready to drop into a VE or VF Commodore or a VZ originally fitted with a 6.0L engine. To go into the VZ the oil pan will need to be changed. Obviously the engine can be retro fitted to any earlier chassis or any vehicle for that matter. You will need a late model loom and ECU as the crank has the later 58 tooth reluctor wheel and interrupter top timing gear. 06.01.2022 420ci LS Stroker Engine Dyno testing and software tuning.

05.01.2022 Some history... Our first COME-1 Torana was a 4 door sedan. Stock front end and ride height. Treaded M&H Street tyres and ladder bars. It was a handful to drive but was fast...very fast, particularly for the times. This is a copy of a story about the car published by a now defunct U.S Drag Racing magazine "Super Sport and Drag Racing Illustrated" from January 1992. For those old farts like us this magazine was the Drag Racers bible. Unfortunately the cars life was cut short by a mishap at the track but its replacement is alive and well.

05.01.2022 COME Racing has two versions of alloy heads to suit Holden V8. The current 590 heads flow over 590hp out of the box with a small 182cc port volume intake runner and should be a persons first choice for any engine combination to around the 470bhp mark in a street or street/strip engine. Producing incredible torque and response particularly in the smaller 5 litre or 355ci Stroker engines you cannot buy a better cylinder head anywhere or even attempt to modify a factory cast iro...n head to produce similar results for the cost of our 590 heads. Our new head known as the "600 Series" heads provides the next performance level in an "out of the box" unported head previously thought impossible to achieve. When one looks at the numbers these heads flow its really a no brainer for anyone considering the ultimate in Holden V8 head choices. Flow data in CFM @28" test pressures with the as cast 207cc intake runner volume and 2.08" intake valve .100"...64.3 .200"..142.7 .300"..206.0 .400"..262.4 .500"..288.5...594hp potential .600"..304.2...627hp potential .700"..309.1...637hp potential .800"..311.2...641hp potential Another breakthrough is the matching Exhaust port which flows through a 1.60" valve @28" test pressure... .100"...52.5 .200"..111.6 .300"..161.1 .400"..184.0 .500"..207.5 .600"..218.1 .700"..223.7 .800"..227.0 A person building a good Holden V8 Stroker in particular needs to ask oneself if rebuilding and modifying original cast iron heads versus using our brand new high flowing out of the box heads isnt a much more logical and cost effective option. Think about this carefully. With the excellent potential of our 590 Series heads which are $3200.00 a pair complete ready to bolt on. While the larger higher power potential 600 Series heads are only $3600.00 a pair complete. Given these facts why would you bother with the factory heads? Our alloy heads are out of the box power and torque makers and the complete versions come with stainless valves, dual springs, moly retainers, positive seals and precision 4 angle valve job. They will be ideal for use with any flat tappet hydraulic or solid cam as well as hydraulic rollers. We also can set up solid roller versions for those who are racing with solid roller valvetrains although they will be more expensive.

04.01.2022 Ive been recently looking at some of the old historic COME videos that the boys gave me for editing and subsequent upload soon. Wow, what memories.. and I am working on improving them a bit from their original super 8 and VHS formats - I will start uploading them when they are finished The workshop dog ..

04.01.2022 Our 396ci Holden has almost finished its dyno time, more tuning and an oil change. We use semi synthetic Martini brand oil on the dyno and add a small dose of zinc additive to the oil. Despite what you may be told zinc is important for roller cam as well as flat tappet cammed engines. Not interested in the oil wars her but we always insist our engine and cam customers use oils with zinc in them or at least add zinc to the oil. Penrite has zinc in most of their oils and weve ...been Penrite users for over 30 years. Other good oils are around but keep that zinc in mind. The latest dyno sheets are showing the power levels we were expecting along with very strong torque through the rpm range. All this with off the shelf parts like our 600 Series alloy heads and our nodular cast crank 396ci Stroker kit. The cam used is our CSBR-744-IN-112 which has 244 degrees @.050" duration on both intake and exhaust ground on 112 degree lobe centres with exactly .600" lift on both intake and exhaust. We are using pump 98 fuel from Costco which is reputed to be Mobil. However weve found Caltex and BP on par in terms of octane quality. By the way we still are using off the shelf unmodified Bosch # 775 injectors sourced from Injectors On Line. They are however approaching their flow limit although we try to persist with as small an injector as possible to provide extremely effective air/fuel atomisation at part throttle for crisp response and greatly reduced puddling of fuel in the intake so commonly a problem with a larger injector that runs very light on base pulse constant numbers at low rpm and part throttle. This results in fuel air separation and the darker rear cylinder spark plugs several people over the years have complained about our intake manifold. Before blaming our manifold one needs to look at things like injector fire rate per engine revolution with the ECU you are using and the fact that even today many "expert" tuners are still afraid to run injectors at fairly high duty cycles. Frankly, you are only running them at 90% for very short bursts (unless you are full time circuit racing) in street/strip applications so that for 90% of the time those high values will have no ill effect on injector life particularly when using the Delco ECU found in the VN-VS Commodores. But the benefits of a smaller finer spray at part throttle and lower rpm levels are enormous in better response and much more controlled efficient fuel spray which reduces plug fouling to almost zero.

04.01.2022 Another step towards finalising our Holden V8 cylinder block. With close to everything machined the integrity of the casting is looking excellent. We have a second casting going back into the CNC machines soon. This one will be fully finished and will be the basis of the first full engine build to test the running integrity of the block.

03.01.2022 ON THE DYNO... 396ci Holden Stroker engine. COME TTB EFI intake manifold, 600 Series out of the box alloy heads. CSBR-744-IN-112 hydraulic roller cam, factory ignition, factory software, 1 3/4" Pacemaker extractors with 3" collectors, pump 98 fuel, Bosch # 775 injectors (Blue top), ASR custom oil pan and pickup, 396 Stroker kit. Dyno results are not final. Tuning right now. Engine running in today. Oil change and more fine tuning. Still using the stock # 775 Bosch (blue) injectors. Theyve almost reached their limit but have no problem making 528 bhp in the room and 540 bhp corrected @ 6000 rpm No, they are not drilled or modified in any way. They are stockers supplied by Injectors On Line.
