21.01.2022 I have just heard the news on the Australian comic grapevine that Melbourne-based comic artist-cartoonist-publisher Ian Eddy has passed away. He was a pioneer of the early comic self-publishing movement in the early 1980s (when it wasn't as cheap to do so as it is today). His influence on the local (Australian) scene and his enthusiasm for the medium cannot be overstated. He experimented with his artistic style, with his story-telling. Full details at www.comicoz.com

13.01.2022 Sharing some lovely Ian Eddy magic from 1982. RIP Ian.

13.01.2022 It was seventy-five years ago today....

12.01.2022 I'm going along with Daniel Best's suggestion and making this an Ian Eddy Weekend. Here are two pages that he wrote and drew for the very first anthology I ever... published soon after returning to Brisbane ("The Australian Comics Group #1" published in October 1982). There are another couple of pages from this magazine on David Bird's earlier posting, and I'll share the best of Ian's work from this comic on this site tomorrow. I wrote my reflections and memories of Ian on my blog yesterday (www.comicoz.com). Anyone on this Facebook page interested in seeing the last work from Ian that was published ("Out On a Limb" in the 'Special Nostalgia Edition' of Oi Oi Oi! in 2015), I'm happy to send it to you for only the cost of the postage ($5 within Australia should do it). It was written by Ian's brother Daryl, who encouraged Ian to allow me to publish it years after he drew it. I'll also enclose photocopies of the five-page story Ian wrote and drew ("Hardly Anything At All") that has never been published. The first page to that story is on my blog. I'm not sure Ian would not want all this fawning about his work. The Ian I met (on the one occasion!) was a happy man, a modest man, a man passionate about his craft and comics' potential. I know if he were here, I would tell him that he was an important figure in our local Australian comic scene. I won't say 'Melbourne' here, because I published him from Brisbane. He was an Australian comic legend. He will never be forgotten. I'm gutted and have not stopped thinking of him since I heard the news, even while I was working yesterday evening. See more
