25.01.2022 Cominos House as an example of a ‘Queenslander’ is unique - built for residential use in the 1870s, it has been re-purposed as an arts and environment centre, providing inexpensive office space and meeting facilities for community groups in Cairns. We are proud of our history and have a collection of homewares and artefacts from its time as a family home. Come visit sometime.

21.01.2022 Check this out. Could be a valid solution for plastic waste and spawn a new cottage industry in Cairns. https://www.facebook.com/techinsider/videos/438437060264205/

18.01.2022 Its wonderful to see how sympathetic renovations can bring a new lease of life to the 'Queenslander'.

16.01.2022 Tango Craze - another of the many creative arts groups using the community space at the Rose Blank Gallery, Cominos House. Check them out soon.

16.01.2022 Such a unique architectural style, well suited to the Queensland climate.

12.01.2022 Please note: In appreciation of all our hirers and facility users in this time of Corona Virus crisis, in order to conform with government requirements and proper social distancing, regular hire of Cominos House has been suspended pending relaxation of health requirements.

11.01.2022 Surely there is sufficient population up here to support a bio-plastic bag manufacturing facility? https://www.youtube.com/watch

06.01.2022 Cominos House is a Cairns, North Queensland original Queenslander representing what is now highly regarded by architects as a distinctively 'Queensland' house design that continues to inspire architects into the present .. being house design characterized by being built of wood upon usually rounded wooden stumps, high ventilated corrugated iron roofing, four or more rooms around a central corridor and, of course deep shaded verandas find our more about Queenslanders here: https://theconversation.com/sublime-design-the-queenslander

06.01.2022 Cominos House has sharp new signage. At long last our weather-worn signs have been replaced with beautiful new timbers. Props to the masterful work done by Tolly Signs who really showed professionalism and care throughout the process. And a big thanks to Beth & Wil at Topaz Sustainable Timbers for kindly donating a massive redgum slab that will be our streetfront sign for generations to come.

04.01.2022 This is just a headsup for the Japan Day of Hope to be held locally at the Edge Hill State School on March the 9th. Many will recall the devastating earthquake and consequent tsunami that affected Fukushima and impacted so many communities and indeed the whole country in 2011. The after-effects of damage to the nuclear power facility are still lingering and a reminder of the double-edged sword that nuclear technology represents.... The Japan Day of Hope is both commemorative of that event and a celebration of Japanese culture, in the form of various performances - and also an opportunity to sample authentic Japanese food. Japan Day of Hope is an annual charity event, now in its 8th year, that sponsors a few Fukushima children to attend a camp in Cairns, to enjoy nature and give them a brief respite from the constant radiation monitoring they must endure in their daily life. Japan Day of Hope looks like a great opportunity to experience a taste of Japan and at the same time provide support to the charity. All funds raised go to allow a handful of kids to attend the annual camp. See you at Edge Hill State School starting 11am on Saturday March 9th !
