24.01.2022 Airlie Beach, QLD We just spent the day showing the kids around. Our girls had never been here and this was only Joe's and my 3rd time. We spent the morning at the foreshore markets. There is an awesome play ground for the kids too. We then went for a drive to the lookout at shute harbor. They are doing some construction work so we couldn't drive all the way to the harbor. The was is STUNNING . The boys has a few flicks of the lure but had no luck. We then proceeded on to the lagoon for a swim. The lagoon suits all ages. Has tables and shade for a picnic blanket. We could have easily spent the whole day there. We called into woolies for supplies and stopped in for a meal at the pub before heading back to camp.

21.01.2022 Gloucester bay, QLD Wow this place is beautiful!! The kids had a swim in the shallows (stinger season starts from October) the boys had a fish and I tried to do some study. What was I thinking...there was no chance with this place, it sure was a distraction! The bay is sheltered from the wind do it was the best place to be. The only negative is that there was no shade If you like fresh oysters there was plenty on the rocks.

21.01.2022 Cromarty Creek boat ramp, QLD Free Fishing Drop loo... Reception Mud crabs Crocodiles sandflies Cromarty Creek is 40km north of Ayr, and approximately 10km out of the small town of Giru. Camping is free. There are a few nomads who look like they've been there for a while camped there. It has a boat ramp and a clean drop loo which actually had flushing water. It can be rampant with sandflies but that's to be expected. We didn't get bitten when launching the boat but that's not to say someone else won't get eaten. We hadn't even need in the water for 10mins when we saw a 3m crocodile We decided to move away and put our crab pots elsewhere. Later on we saw the most stupid thing ever.....a boat dropped 5 kids off to run and play along the sand bar!! No they didn't get eaten but ffs, Crocs are everywhere in these areas!!

20.01.2022 More highlights..

20.01.2022 Wanderers Holiday Village, Lucinda QLD $41 powered, extra adult $10, child $8 Fishing beach 100m away Potable water... Swimming pool Play ground and volley ball court direct behind the park Prone to rain Dogs allowed Fresh seafood & bait 500m away Free BBQs Small camp kitchen Huge amenities block Washing $4 Wheelchair friendly I rang to book our sites a few weeks in advance due to it being school holidays. I asked for a grassed site for our soft floor camper and a spot for my parents to be beside us and we didn't mind them being in the grass too. I advised we also would have another car with a boat and they said it would all be catered for. Upon arriving they had decided to put us on a grass site which was behind other slab sites and my parents would have been in a different street with a van between us on a slab site. I explained my request again and was given two other options which resulted us being on two smaller sites and us having to park our camper on top of the slab just so we could fold out facing my parents. With the slab being 4" high we could'nt even peg down our tent, the stabilizers couldn't reach the ground and we didn't have enough room to put on our annex. We also had to park the car and boat on the street behind as we certainly couldn't fit them on our sites. Yes it was our choice to stay BUT when a person rings prior, explains their situation and is told everything will be fine and all requirements would be met, thats what you expect! Apart from that, the fact it rained and we didn't catch any crabs it was still a good weekend and mum and dad finally got to use their caravan. The kids had a dip in the pool but it was too cold to stay in for too long. The amenities were huge and new. The only downside to those is if you forget the access code number hahaha Platinum Campers & Off Road Caravans

19.01.2022 We might have to try this!

13.01.2022 12mths ago today we left Townsville on our lap around Australia. Unfortunately Covid19 stopped us from continuing. We finally got to WA with high expectations and after two weeks we legged it back across the Nullarbor and up the Birdsville track to get back home before the borders closed. We didn't expect to enjoy SA as much as we did but thoroughly enjoyed it (thankfully it was summer) We completed 3 house sits and enjoyed Christmas & NY in a beautiful house in the Adelaid...e city. Whilst we were in the NT we ducked across to Bali for a week. It was our first time flying international and the kids first memorable flight. We walked the Katherine gorge and swam in many water holes throughout the NT. We will have to return to complete Kakadu when all the water holes are open. Bryden caught his first Barra in Nhulunbuy. We nearly lost our camper trailer in a fire out at Barton Point/King Ash Bay which was the most scariest thing I've ever experienced but the fishing made up for it. We travelled many currogated roads throughout QLD and made it to the tip of Cape York. Although I'm absolutely gutted to not finish on our terms I am very grateful we got to see what we did. We will get to see the rest of Australia eventually but it will be in very small doses. Here are some pics if the highlights

07.01.2022 Cocoa Creek - Cape Bowling Green Bay NP, QLD Camper trailers, tents, rooftops & swags fishing $6.75 pp/on or $27 family... High clearance vehicles Crocodiles fires permitted Telstra reception Mud boat ramp ( be mindful of the tides) MUST BE SELF SUFFICIENT No water No toilets No bins No pets No caravans We didn't camp on this day. We just did a day trip. It says 4x4 only but some campers had a 2wd Hilux and 2wd boat trailers in there. The road in is about 5km and is rough and rocky in some areas. The boat ramp is mud so pick the tides and be careful in the creek or you may not get back to camp. Make sure you take your rubbish and put out your fires. There are 5 sign posts for camping areas. Once down some of those tracks there are multiple camp sites. Bookings are online.

05.01.2022 YAY!! It's camping time again

02.01.2022 Lucinda, QLD Fishing - Beach and Jetty Crocodiles Boat ramp... Full phone reception Prone to rain (just our luck) Sea turtles Mud crabs Pub & Restaurant small takeaway shop Fuel available Caravan park Playgrounds Beach & Island views Spar supermarket at Halifax (9km) Public amenities Water point We stayed at the caravan park during our time there. We were within walking distance to the fishing jetty & pub. The van park backed onto a huge park, play ground and beach. The boat ramp was a 5min drive away where there are holiday houses, resort accommodation, fuel and tour/island departures. You can also hire house boats for your own Hinchinbrook adventure. As for the fishing & crabbing...... We sucked!!! We saw only 2 muddies which were undersized but got 2 bream and 1 cod in the crab pots. My dad & Joe only caught once fish each and they were both too small also. We got a small Queenie in the cast net too but was way too small. We did have a great time trying though and as they say " A Bad Days Fishing, Beats A Good Days Work Everytime"

01.01.2022 The Strand, Townsville, QLD Free Fishing jetty Half basketball court... Beach volleyball court Swimming Ice-cream shops Cafes Restaurants Pubs Free BBQS Playgrounds, grassed areas, gym equipment, waterpark (currently being renovated) The strand is good for some free entertainment. It runs for 2.2km. The beach isn't that fancy compared to many around Australia but it is lovely and will still keep the kids entertained. Please use the stinger nets when they're out. We do have the deadly Irukandji Stingers from November to May. The Rock pool is also there for the smaller kids. If you don't like the sea there is usually a water splash park running but it is currently closed for renovations. Take a picnic, items for a BBQ, or dine out. There plenty of places to eat. Coles in 100m up from the foreshore if needed. Take the kids, skates, scooters or bikes too if you want to fully wear them out.
