19.01.2022 SUTHERLAND SHIRE - Number of suburbs to receive world-first internet technology. A number of Sutherland Shire suburbs have today (28/2) been named by the Nation...al Broadband Network (NBN) as part of a list of suburbs throughout Australia set to receive world-first Fibre-to-the-Curb (FTTC) technology. The Shire suburbs as part of 42 suburbs that will receive the technology in Australia includes Caringbah South, Cronulla, Woolooware and Woronora Heights. According to NBN, the world-first FTTC technology will deliver fibre all the way to the telcom pit, or footpath, outside a home. The fibre then connects with a small distribution point unit (DPU) which then uses the existing copper line to deliver fast broadband to the premises over a relatively short distance. NBN Co. are promising download/upload speeds of up to 100Mbps and 40mbps. The service will be available by the first half of 2018 for commercial services and be ready to 100,000 homes and businesses. It will then be expanded to 700,000 homes and businesses nationwide with the above Shire suburbs to be among the first.
