24.01.2022 I started this 8 week course (free unit from Yale MBA - Introduction to Negotiation: A Strategic Playbook for Becoming a Principled and Persuasive Negotiator) at the beginning of lockdown on Coursera. Pros; superb engaging presenter, use of real world scenarios,... visuals, animations, role plays, difficult but accessible too, have to do real negotiations for assignments, relevant to dentistry eg. negotiating % etc, relevant to life - buying, selling, bargaining, pricing, Free (you pay for the certificate on completion if you want). Cons; some mathematics understanding required, some jargon used, takes time (a few hours p/w) to do properly. In short, I have done many online courses over the years in communication, conflict management, negotiation - this is the best one I have done with lots of life skills as well as business/ negotiation skills contained here. https://www.coursera.org/learn/negotiation/home/welcome

21.01.2022 This is a gem of a podcast episode with David Keir and Annalene Weston - so many important ideas in here for dentists or any professionals for that matter.

20.01.2022 It is a very long time since the importance of effective leadership (or lack of!) has been laid bare, for all to see, with everything going on in the world today. Equally so in dental practices, whether we are the owner/ principal, a contactor or an employee, we as dental professionals still lead a team aiming to achieve the best outcomes for our patients. This interview was recorded well before COVID-19, yet it is very interesting to note what Aidan has to say about scanning... for disruptive forces on the horizon and productively engaging your team in adapting to the changing environment we practice in. www.commhealth.com.au/blog https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/id1465449205 https://open.spotify.com/show/1ls0essblxEFSiDf0GzljN https://communicating-health-podcast.simplecast.com/ -1:30

18.01.2022 Latest episode of the Communicating Health Podcast is a great conversation with Dr. David Keir. Most of you will know David as the host of the Dental Head Start Podcast - he is a great communicator and has been a dentist for 3 years but has spent 15 years in the dental industry so has some unique insights and perspectives.

17.01.2022 Most recent podcast interview with Dr. Rakesh Jivan - "what the patient really wants to know is ...". www.commhealth.com.au/blog https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/id1465449205 https://open.spotify.com/show/1ls0essblxEFSiDf0GzljN... https://communicating-health-podcast.simplecast.com/ See more

09.01.2022 Lovely article.

07.01.2022 When I teach I say that making a good first impression is a key communication skill and it is interesting to see the penny drop moment when I explain the multiple ways this happens long before the patient actually meets the dentist in their surgery. A huge part of this is the front line staff and it is critical to invest in them, value them and train them as they can often be the making or breaking of a positive first impression regardless of your skill, experience, courses completed or letters after your name.

06.01.2022 Great, insightful conversation with clinical psychologist Jarred Munro.

04.01.2022 90 second guide to the 2017 classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant diseases - more detail in this excellent episode with Dr. Wendy Gill. www.commhealth.com.au/blog https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/id1465449205 https://open.spotify.com/show/1ls0essblxEFSiDf0GzljN https://communicating-health-podcast.simplecast.com/

02.01.2022 Dr David Keir - what do patients remember?

01.01.2022 Dentists have, to all intents and purposes, had to close their practices leading to concern that their patients may feel abandoned. Patients have been very understanding and aware of our need to protect everyone's health and comply with mandated restrictions. It is still essential to leave lines of communication open to any patient that needs it - very insightful conversation with clinical psychologist Jarred Munro in my latest episode of the podcast.
