03.01.2022 . . . Nights are overtaking the days and for some reason you can't stop counting them. 100 sheep 'til you fall asleep but how many until you wake up? Every time you look in the mirror there's an ageing face looking back. You tell them there's sleep stuck in the crease of their eye, but they're listening to something else. For something else. The only conversations you've had this week have been with the walls of your house. They creak of sorrows from times you forgot, the... tin roof muffles its cries in the next room. Block them out. You spent the past month replacing your friends with blankets, but the chill in your core won't leave. Don’t lose spirit, there are other forces at work here. Seasons are changing. Nights are overtaking the days. . . . In the Southern Hemisphere, May Day is Samhain, or the mid point between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. The Full Flower Moon, which traditionally heralds Spring blooms, instead signifies for those of us on the other side, the death and decay of those same blossoms. On this liminal eve, Common Cult are inviting a coven of poets to offer their words and our wine to the spirits, so that we may survive the cold dark winter. You are warmly invited to our watching party. Dress in black, light some candles and pour a glass of your finest dirt cheap wine. Featuring readings from: Adelaide June Adelaide enjoys long walks in cemeteries, red wine at breakfast, and not going to bed at responsible hours. She hopes her poems make you think about death, but, like, in a nice, aesthetic way. Follow her instagram here @_laidey.of.the.lake_ Darcy Rock Darcy Rock is a Melbourne based writer and performer. She is a recent creative writing graduate of RMIT that has been published in Voiceworks, Lor journal and is currently writing music reviews at Trouble Juice. You can follow all her creative pursuits @darcyrock_ Hayley Francis Hayley Francis is a muso and creative lady just trying to get by without being a disappointment. She writes sad poems for herself and sad songs for her band forever renter. Sometimes she does happy things too but that would make her appear way less mysterious and cool. Follow her here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnyQY2ZlCJlm19ZJSPkg4ng and Insta @hayleyfrancis_ . . . Video by Hayley Francis Music 'Microwave' by Tina Growls . . . Available on YouTube and Facebook on Thursday from 8:45pm, when the Flower Moon is at its fullest. . . . KEEP UP WITH ALL OUR MUSIC, POETRY + ZINE HAPPENINGS: https://www.facebook.com/commoncult/ https://www.instagram.com/common_cult/ Like + subscribe for more online content coming soon. Stay safe + stay sane this winter Common Cult Coven xxx
