22.01.2022 Thank you to QPAC and their patrons who gave so generously at this years Spirit of Christmas concerts. A big thank you to the team of volunteers who gave their time to help with the collections. It is always a lot of fun with plenty of Christmas cheer . Wishing everyone a safe and Merry Christmas and we look forward to connecting with you in 2021!

20.01.2022 Brisbane Common Ground was made possible through the last federal stimulus package and has been proven to be a cost effective solution to homelessness. Great to see the cost savings identified in the UQ evaluation referred to in this article. Lets hope this pandemic helps remind us all that everyone deserves a place to call home, and that it is possible to make it a reality if we choose to.

18.01.2022 Amanda says she first heard about Brisbane Common Ground through a friend. Years and years ago another actor who I knew lived here and she told me about it, she recalls. At the time, Amanda explains she was housesitting a lot, so she just filed it to the back of her mind. ... But then I had a year where I was struggling to string the ‘sits’ together and I was spending a lot of time either having to pay exorbitant prices to stay somewhere in between or stay with friends and it didn’t seem to be going so well. I remembered about Brisbane Common Ground so I looked into it more and filled in an application form. Amanda describes how having her own place again was a huge relief. It also provided her with a secure base to focus on supporting her ageing parents through a time of need. It was just great to be able to stop and unpack a bit of stuff and just have my own place. Amanda’s eyes light up as she talks about her job at QPAC. I’ve been there nine years now, she shares. I’ve been a tour guide as well as an usher. It’s a great place to work and we do get wonderful opportunities working there. Amanda says it fits in well with her other work as an actor for the independent theatre company she is involved with and talks animatedly about her past performances and current projects. The Curators has been going for a couple of years and I’ve already done two plays with them; a rendition of Anton Chekov’s Uncle Vanya and a one woman show in the Anywhere Theatre Festival. This year is our biggest yet with 3 shows. I am performing in two of those, the first one in May is a 2-hander called Vincent River. I think I am equal parts nervous and excited about that one!

10.01.2022 Common Ground Queensland is supporting calls for the State Government to extend the moratorium on evictions for residential renters. The moratorium is targeted to renters who are COVID affected, and it’s removal will leave many people vulnerable to eviction before Christmas.
