23.01.2022 Murray Valley Trails Dual Slalom Track Have you ever wondered how we create, shape, and build the trails you get to ride and enjoy? Well here's a short video filmed over the course of 3 days during construction of the New Dual Slalom track in Dwellingup. After battling with wet weather and poor conditions for days we finally got a break. The sun came out and it gave us a chance to focus all our efforts on finishing the trail. It's always very fulfilling building a trail and t...hen riding it. The sense of connection you feel to it is very hard to explain, every turn, jump, roller, rock, root... Every sneaky sender, optional line, or strategically placed drain. All of it coming together to create an unimaginable amount of joy. "You spend hours thinking, designing, questioning. All so you can spend a few seconds lost in one moment. No time to think, just reaction. Focus. All the worry and the want washed away by the rush. When it comes to trails, when the builder puts down the shovel and picks up the bike, when creation overrides destruction well, that's living." Life Cycles (2010) Here's to new trails, progression within the sport, and more good times to come! Now... 22.01.2022 NEW COLLIE TRAILS OPEN! Collie was in the spotlight today as 12km of new trails at Arklow were officially opened by Mark McGowan. Built by Common Ground alongside a team of locals, the trails offer a range of experiences from adaptive trail to technical singletrack, as well as short flow and jump sections. The traversing trails feature large jumps, long log rides and numerous rock gardens. Thanks to Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia, it will be locals and visitors... alike who’ll be enjoying these trails for years to come. Special thanks to our team members including project manager Carl, site supervisor Deon and our team leaders Gerran, Sam, Alex and Eric for delivering the great trails. The project would not have been possible without the support of our local employees Leonie, Ethan and Luke as well as a number of local Collie businesses that kept us going through the 3-month project. Get out there and enjoy them as much as the locals have been! Tim Campbell Photo Gerran Turner Roly Kyme
22.01.2022 Our recently constructed trail in Dwellingup "Busted Nuts".
19.01.2022 The awesome new Murray Valley Trails in Dwellingup are now open. We are incredibly proud of what the Common Ground Team have created with our latest trails Busted Nuts, Quokkamoly and Tombstone. Busted Nuts offers a style of trail not typically seen in WA and more commonly found in Bike Parks around the world. With its big hips and large lips, we think it's going to be crowd favourite and is sure to bust the nuts of even the savviest trail connoisseur. Quokkamoly has berms fo...r days and ends with a fun dual slalom section to race your mates. Common Ground is grateful to have been involved in the Murray Valley trails project for over six years! We originally started with the preparation of the concept plan on which the entire built network reflects closely. We have since progressed through various stages of the detailed design and construction, designing the vast majority of trails and constructing 7 of the 15 trails. Well done to our friends at Three Chillies and Magic Dirt who built the remainder of the trails we designed, with a few tweaks to give them their own flavour. We 'hear' they ride great! Special thanks to our full team and the legends at Parks and Wildlife who all work tirelessly to make riding opportunities in WA a reality. We look forward to seeing you out there! Travis Deane, Josh Cowling

09.01.2022 Who wants a pump track like this? Common Ground’s latest pump track in Dongara/Denison was completed last week and officially opened on the weekend to a huge crowd of eager riders, skaters and scooters! Which town wants something like this for their youth?
09.01.2022 Two different styles, one trail, coming together in a blissful harmony. You've just landed a poppy jump and asked yourself what's next? What could possibly ex...cite me even more after all this. You look up, there's a sharkfin style drop, its rollable, but you decide to float off the end. You start to pick up speed, using the rollers to pump, you hit the long and low, rail the berm, turn the corner, it slows you down just enough, and as you look up your facing down another pine tree hallway. Sitting there majestically in all its glory, full loam, roots and awkward off camber goodness. You roll through squealing like a small child on Christmas, as you exit the hallway you realise the trail has changed. Its more raw, more natural, it follows the lay of the land, but it has elements of flow. More to come! 06.01.2022 Massive Congratulations to our team in Dongara, WA. This pumptrack looks unreal. Our team, led by Gerran Turner, is insanely happy with how this project has turned out! A massive thanks to Nick Morgan and Lee Reid for all their hard work and to our awesome crew that came up for some asphalt fun. 06.01.2022 Trails, more than just dirt. As trailbuilders we aim to tell a story, with a begining, a middle, and an end. Along the way you encounter problems, as a rider yo...u create sollutions. You come barreling down the trail towards a feature, you are faced with a decision. Do you attempt to tame the beast infront of you or do you grab ahold of the brakes and save the battle for another day? A good trail will help to inspire you to face these demons, while still providing you an easier way out. It will help to encourage you to tackle your fear, face it head on, and kick it's @$$. It will also challenge you in a safe way and help you to learn to progress to the next level. When you are building, every waking hour is consumed by your creation. Much to the distaste of the countless people around you who are sick of hearing about every turn, berm, jump, rock or root. We put many hours, weeks, months, sometimes even years into planning, designing, re-thinking, shaping and building, all so we can spend a few moments lost in the experience. These photos will help tell that story. #TrailStories ---- #trailbuilding #mtb #mountainbike #mtblife #flowtrail #pumptrack #trail #downhill #mountainbiking #bike #trails #enduro #rideordie #nodignoride #cycling #freeride #enduromtb #bicycle #dh #bikelife #trailbuilder #adventure #trailriding #singletrack @ Murray Valley Trails Dwellingup
05.01.2022 We recently teamed up with @markgaric at the grand opening of the Murray Valley Trails to film a a video edit on our trail #BustedNuts. Here is a little teaser of what's to come. We can't wait to see the video edit.
05.01.2022 5 outa 5 MTB Guidebook give their perspective on WA's top five pump tracks. With half a dozen pump tracks in various stages of construction and another dozen being designed, Common Ground pump tracks are certainly on the rise in Australia.
04.01.2022 Our team in Dongara, lead by Gerran Turner, has been busy constructing the base shapes on one of newest pump tracks. Things are really starting to come together. We can't wait to see this one come to life!
04.01.2022 We have enjoyed a great working relationship with Hepburn Shire Council over the past two years starting with the Creswick Pump Track. It will be great to see this Hammon Park Masterplan, as well as the 100km of trails we designed, move into the next stages. Well done to our awesome design team who continue to knock these kind of projects out of the park across Australia.
01.01.2022 You're flying down a flow trail at 45kmph you come around a corner, theres a big left hip, you've seen this type of thing in videos, the landing is long, and it... inspires you to try it. You land it, then there's a jump which now seems much less daunting because your confidence is up. The hip has slowed you down, so you roll into the jump, you hit it with relative ease, then another. As you land the 3rd jump you think, "Damn that was fun!". A slight uphill run slows you down just enough and gives you a chance to reset. Then the trail shrinks, the width decreased and your sences hightend, suddenly your surrounded by pines and you find yourself barreling through a scratched in loam trail on the path of least resistance. As you look ahead, you see something at the end of pine tree hallway... a berm, you let off the brakes and trust the speed you just aquired. You know the berm will hold you like many before it. You rail the berm and look up, there is a grade reversal and a jump. This is what you've trained for your ready to tackle the challenge, you jump out of the pine plantation into an open cut block, the light at the end of the tunnel. Your heart screems "HELL YEAH!"... The question you ask yourself as you land, "What's next?" Stay tuned for the next chapter. #TrailStories ----- #trailbuilding #mtb #mountainbike #mtblife #flowtrail #pumptrack #trail #downhill #mountainbiking #bike #trails #enduro #rideordie #nodignoride #cycling #freeride #enduromtb #bicycle #dh #bikelife #trailbuilder #adventure #trailriding #singletrack @ Murray Valley Trails Dwellingup See more
01.01.2022 The view from the design team office last week. We are currently working on Bardi Jawi Country with The Ardyaloon Community, Tourism WA and DLGSC designing two interpretative walk trails one guided and one self guided. The trails which start at the Ardyaloon Hatchery will enable visitors to learn about the Bardi-Jawi people’s strong connection to their salt water traditions. Exploring mangroves, Hawks circling overhead and watching turtles bob in the water below, it was an epic week in this wild place, and a privilege to be involved in this special project.
