25.01.2022 From damp Yorkshire, via a dip in the cool Murray River, to heatwaves in Brisbane, I think everyone is ready to put a pin in 2020 and have a Holiday. Check out this week's Living Room Dance Party.
23.01.2022 I love my job. Getting to dance weeknights with awesome people who dress up like this brings me great joy even on the flattest days. #commonpeopledanceproject

22.01.2022 In a year of uncertainty and stress for many people, I'm very excited that the Common People Dance Eisteddfod is going ahead again this year as part of the Brisbane Festival with the support of the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. . This project has brought so much hope, distraction and social connection to over 130 people, as the 4 teams have sweated up our storm in their living rooms through lock-down via zoom classes and now as restrictions have eased up i...n Queensland, we've been very fortunate to be able to dance together again in community halls and bowls clubs across Brisbane, all while socially distancing and sanitising our jazz hands of course. The incredible Amanda Fairbanks is currently drowning in a sea of sequins, tulle and spandex as she makes over 130 costumes for these suburban gladiators that range from 4 year olds to 84 year olds. On the 19th of September, the 4 teams from the North, South, East and West, will dance off once again to prove which side of Brisbane is best. This year our battle ground will be the mighty Suncorp Piazza. Who will win the biggest reverse garbage gold trophy this year? With 50% of tickets already sold, this event will sell out fast. Here is the ticket link if you want to get any tickets. https://www.brisbanefestival.com.au//common-people-dance-e Photo credit: Raw Bones Photography See more
22.01.2022 The mighty Southside strutting it out to a medley of Girls On Film, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Prince’s Kiss. Comments from one of the judges Jackie Ryan: Very ambitious. What started out as a reaction against the surveillance state morphed seamlessly into a plea for action on climate change, with each of the dancers inhabiting the role of an SUV. Timely and energy efficient. 21.01.2022 Comment from one of the judges Jackie Ryan after the Pump Up The Jam battle between Eastside and Westside: Extraordinary. You’ve given us an overview of the 20th century. Commencing with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, then dipping back to reveal it’s root causes in the Irish Potato Famine, before concluding with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of Eastern European Communism. It may have been the end of history, but you’ve begun something here tonight! Jackie Ryan

16.01.2022 4 teams of suburban gladiators of all ages and all abilities, are about to battle it out in the annual Common People Dance Eisteddfod. The teams can cheat, they can bribe the judges and sabotage the other teams. Here are some dance moves that will be awarded extra points from the judges this year. Video put together by @nevin.howell and perfectly demonstrated by Janet Gillespie of the Southside Team. Let’s award them 5 points before the battle even begins. #brisbanefestival #brisfest #commonpeopledanceproject #commonpeopledanceeisteddfod #brisbanedance

04.01.2022 North, South, East or West, which side of Brisbane is best? On the 19th of September a mighty dance battle will take place on neutral territory at the Suncorp Piazza as part of @brisbanefestival .The teams are working on their social disdancing jazz slides, perfecting their ‘stink eye’ for the other teams and glitter spraying their dancing shoes. @amandafairbanks is in the thick of sequins and spandex, making 140 costumes. Which team will win the Common People Dance Eisteddfod 2020 trophy? 02.01.2022 On Saturday night, the mighty Northside team took home the Common People Dance Eisteddfod 2020 trophy. The team were the underdogs leading up to the event, but then on the night blew the roof off the Southbank piazza. With two added male strippers, a dancer in a neck brace who ate sandwiches from her sequinned bum bag while dancing, the legendary Liz performing at age 84 and a giant cheque for 99 squeeeelion dollars to bribe the good looking judges the trophy landed in the sweaty jazz hands.
