25.01.2022 If you're a business thinking about FB marketing, or doing it, this live discussion is really worth watching. The changes to FB algorithms have changed the way we should be doing FB marketing. There's some real gems here - particularly if you watch from about 1/3 of the way in, to the end. Key takeaways, be more social, test, be yourself, give a lot of value, be a person - not a brand, develop a strategy and a proper plan. Love it.

25.01.2022 Step 2 in our process of determining if a website has been properly SEO'd is to review the onsite SEO. It involves accessing the backend of the website and review all pages, posts and products to see a. if they have been optimised, and... b. how well they have been optimised, or if there’s still more work to be done. The screensot shows a list of blogposts in a WordPress website. This particular client had paid for someone to do SEO, but this shows us that it has not been done. How do we know? The first column of grey dots below the traffic light symbol is a dead giveaway. If these posts had been optimised, the grey dots would be green, orange or red a rating score that indicates how well the post has been optimised to meet Google’s guidelines. It is really sad to see how agencies play with the clients who don't have any SEO knowledge just to make money. That's why we recommend that you learn the basics of SEO so you know what should be done, can ask the right questions and do spot checks. #onsiteseo #seoagencies #onpageoptimisation

23.01.2022 Simply type the words 'Hosting Service Providers' in Google will result in a long list of hosting services... However it is not easy to judge the quality of service provided just by looking at their website. Many years ago we started out with a large, cheap hosting company, to keep our costs and our clients’ cost low. Unfortunately the company had security issues, several incidents of downtime, a very slow support service that is often delivered by someone who has limited tec...hnical expertise. Remember every minute a site is down costs the owner money. Based on our past experiences, we've compiled a list of features a quality hosting service should provide. Click the link below to get the details..

22.01.2022 Our third step in reviewing how well SEO has been done on a website, is to review site load speed. Google’s SEO guidelines are all formulated around providing users with a great experience, and one of the top priorities is load speed particularly on mobile phones. We run the site through an advanced speed testing tool to see how it performs on desktops and mobile phones. The screenshot shows two speed tests we conducted on a new client’s site. The first is the desktop load... speed, the second is the mobile phone load speed. These speed tests show that this website is very slow to load on all devices, which is proving visitors with a poor experience, and will probably have a detrimental affect on their google rankings. Improving speed is vital for ranking well in search engines. We didn't build this site, but our team is working to fix all the issues that are impacting speed, and will continue to review speed regularly to ensure future changes to the site do not impact speed. #sitespeed

11.01.2022 Is Long Form Blog Content a Smart Content Strategy? I am a fan of long form content that delivers real value. If you write your long form content in the right way, readers will be able to navigate it efficiently, easily diving more deeply into the parts of the posts that are of interest to them. That’s what tables of contents and descriptive headings are for, after all. #contentstrategy

10.01.2022 How many enquiries do you receive from other forms of marketing that you cast aside if prospects don’t buy immediately? You may find that with some nurturing they’ll convert. It may take a day, it may take a year or two. Depends how much value you provide and at what stage in the purchase cycle they’re in. Let’s have a look at some typical prospect types ... Type 1 Not ready. These may have come from a tradeshow or a phone or website enquiry and are in fact finding stage. If you continue to communicate and show your commitment to helping them (not selling them something), you will gain trust, credibility and build a nurturing relationship. Type 2: Comparison Shopping. This group know what they want and are ready to buy but need convincing to buy from you and not a competitor. You need to step up their education about your expertise and your value proposition. Even if they are comparison shopping, in most cases price is only one element they’re comparing. Type 3: Bought Elsewhere. Just because you missed out on the sale this time, is no reason to break off all communication forever. What if they are unhappy with their purchase? What if they want another one? What if you have something else they may want? Don’t waste leads. Nurture the relationship until they tell you to stop.

10.01.2022 Here’s just four of the many problems we see with websites without SEO, or with poorly executed SEO: Mismatch. The content on your website page doesn’t accurately reflect the keyword you’ve assigned to that page, causing Google to penalise you, by not allowing your page to be found in search engine results pages (SERPS). Keyword Stuffing. Conversely, the content on your website page has been keyword stuffed meaning the keyword has been added repeatedly to the point wh...ere it just doesn’t make English sense. Google will penalise you for this also. Competitive Keyword. With over a billion websites on the internet, there’s a lot of competition in Google Search. Trying to rank in search results for a short, common keyword phrase like accountant or plumber is ludicrous. A better strategy is to do your keyword research, see what your competitors are ranking for, see what people are searching for and provide content on the page or post that is optimised for long-tail keywords. Poor SERP presentation. Without onsite SEO, Google has to guess what it’s about and will randomly select info from your site to display in the search results. This means that your click through rate could suffer, because the info presented may not be very captivating. #seo

10.01.2022 Have you been paying for SEO? Have you ever wondered if your SEO is being done properly? In our latest post we share details of the tools and five step process we use to analyse if onsite and offsite SEO on wordpress sites has been done correctly and is achieving good results.

08.01.2022 Just like your car, websites require regular maintenance to keep working properly. Your website should always be live, functioning smoothly, presenting your business professionally and providing website visitors with the right experience. If it’s not, your website visitors will soon click away to a competitors site.

07.01.2022 For the next few days, we'll be sharing the details of how we tell if a website has had SEO done properly. Our first step is to run an SEO Audit. What is an SEO audit? An SEO audit reviews and reports on onsite SEO issues and errors which are affecting the site's ability to rank well in search engines. The SEO audit grades the problems in order of seriousness, and provides full details of what each issue is, where it is, and what needs to be done to fix it.... We use a couple of tools to conduct SEO audits, and it can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the size of the website. The screenshot shows a snapshot of an audit we ran for a new client, and highlights that although there are no critical errors, there are quite a few that need to be fixed to improve the site's indexability and potential rankings in search engines. If you'd like us to run an in-depth SEO Audit of your website, message us and we'll get it organised.

06.01.2022 Do you really need SEO? Well yes, you do if you want your site to be found when people search for specific products, services or topics. When choosing an SEO company, ask them to specify exactly what they’re going to do. Here's an overview that gives you an insight into what kind of questions you need to be asking SEO providers:

05.01.2022 Was looking through my photos and I found this! Completely forgot about it. It was taken in March 2019 at the Social Media Marketing World Conference in San Diego. #SMMW - it was a brilliant event - heard a lot of good speakers on Linkedin, Facebook, Google Ads and Youtube. Met some amazing people, including the lovely Edmee CR Hasler, and was thoroughly inspired by Mark Schaefer - author of Marketing Rebellion. Look forward to going again another year!

04.01.2022 How to Structure Compelling Business Case Studies: A compelling case study should be succinct, yet flow well so that it is a really interesting read. It doesn’t need to be five pages long, nor should it be a couple of short paragraphs. It needs to be long enough to tell the story so that the reader is not left wondering why or how, and ends up admiring you for what you achieved. We use a specific formula to structure case studies for our clients so that they become a compel...ling story. 1. Background Start with a brief introduction of the client, or how your relationship to the client came about. It sets the scene and puts the case study into context. 2. Requirement Outline the project requirements, including the scope of work needed and why. 3. Challenges Describe any challenges the client was experiencing which required the project to be undertaken, and also include any challenges you faced with delivering the project. 4. Solution Outline how the solution you provided, and why you went down that path. Elaborate on steps, choices, process etc. 5. Outcome This is the most important part. What did you achieve for your client? What were the ultimate benefits for them, and how pleased were they? Great case studies are an incredibly powerful marketing and sales tool. Put them to work in your business to build your authority and credibility and make you irresistible.

03.01.2022 Attention Wordpress Website Owners. In December, Wordpress issued a major update which has caused many sites to stop working properly. In addition, the upgrade to the latest PHP code has also caused errors for many plugins and themes and has affected hosting sites. At Commonsense Marketing we've been working over the break to ensure our clients' sites stay functional. But there's going to be a lot more to do. The ongoing website maintenance workload just got a whole lot ...heavier. If you’re not sure whether your site is secure and functioning correctly and complies with the latest security and WordPress updates, please get in touch. We can do a quick audit and let you know what, if anything, needs doing. See link in the first comment for a full outline of the updates, the implications for Wordpress website owners and the link to request an audit.

Ever wondered how to write a press release that will grab the attention of journalists and make it easy for them to publish? Here’s some tips to help you do that.
