24.01.2022 The next practical hack I would like to share today is Prioritise. There was a stunning shift in my perspective after filling in ‘Steve's Strategy Hack' spreadsheet for just a day and how this has continued over the past week. For more on this as well as the 4 steps of the so called Desire Zone, click here. https://clarityfirstprogram.com/part-2-simple-hacks-for-be/
24.01.2022 Have you ever been told that the tone of your communication is 'off'? Perhaps you come off as too aggressive? This is what happened to one of my clients recently, yet the program had nothing to do with aggression. He was a delightful person - very warm and charming in fact.... It turned out to be a strategic decision he was not even aware that he was making. In this post I offer 2 questions that will help you set the right tone while also getting more done more quickly. Learn more here. https://clarityfirstprogram.com/2-questions-to-save-you-he/

23.01.2022 Did you know there are patterns you can use to create your own business communication? It doesnt matter if you are writing an email, a paper or a PowerPoint. The thinking patterns are the same. Download a pattern you can use for your action plans here: https://clarityfirstprogram.com/sws-requestactionjackson... Instead of starting from scratch, next time you need to prepare a strategy or give instructions on how to do a task can be guided by this simple, powerful pattern.
22.01.2022 In my recent webinar I asked for questions from the audience and Claudia asked about a great topic: trust. As she mentioned, if your audience doesnt trust you, you will be lucky if they will open your email or meet with you, let alone respond in a helpful way to what you have to say. So, how to build trust? Focus on identifying and dealing with the root cause before you move forward carefully.... Click here for three concrete ideas to build greater trust with your stakeholders. https://clarityfirstprogram.com/how-do-we-build-trust-with/

19.01.2022 Ryan Holiday sent a terrific list of quotes around this morning and this one jumped out at me. 18.01.2022 I loved catching up with a Clarity First alum this week for at least two reasons: #1 I love hearing how a story we have worked on together lands, and #2 I also love it when they can teach me something practical that they have made work for themselves which will also help someone else... Steve rang me to tell me that a major strategy I had helped him develop a couple of years ago has now come to fruition. He got pretty much everything he had aimed for at the start. We were both delighted. Given I know him well, I also took advantage of the conversation to ask some questions that I thought he was well placed to answer. Click here - https://clarityfirstprogram.com/hack1 - to get some practical hacks that will help you become more strategic. More coming next week.

14.01.2022 I caught up with Steve recently and he had a great story to share. He is an experienced general manager with a fantastic track record and is always keen to learn more. He used his bonus coaching session to prepare for a high-stakes meeting with his manager, who was flying in from the UK for his annual visit.... In getting ready for our session, he prepared a 15+ page deck, but ended up using something quite different. It also led to a career-changing result that was better than he had hoped for. He didnt only get what he wanted. He got much more than that. Learn more about what Steve achieved, as well as Anthony and Jane in my short video series. http://go.clarityfirstprogram.com/3-ideas-please
14.01.2022 I love the way John Sculley, who was involved in launching PowerPoint, talks about NOT using PowerPoint in Board meetings. "The last thing you want to do is to walk through a detailed PowerPoint presentation", he says. He suggests the best discussions occur when the CEO picks out key points from the material that the board has read and then facilitates a discussion ABOUT the content in the papers.... See the video at the end of this article about the Amazon approach to narrative to hear more of what he says https://www.inc.com//jeff-bezos-bans-powerpoint-in-meeting

12.01.2022 Communicating complex ideas when under pressure is tough. Rohan found this recently when he updated key stakeholders during their Quarterly Investment Review. Heres what happened:... Only one of the three showed up. Good news, he was the most influential. Bad news ... he had a different point of view that was material. Worse news ... the other two were working 18 hour days redesigning a major transformation ... and super hard to engage. Join us as we unpack Rohans story and take away at least 3 ideas to help you communicate under pressure. https://calendly.com/davinastan/collabsession-february-25th

11.01.2022 On Sunday night I sent an email out introducing the Feynman technique, which is a super simple way to learn something new. In sum: it says you need to be able to explain something to an eight year old if you want to be sure you know it. John Tuld in Margin Call has a different - but similar and more witty - take on it.

08.01.2022 Do facts change peoples minds? Changing other peoples minds is central to having influence in business, however in his new book Atomic Habits James Clear offers some new insight into this vexing challenge. He starts by referring to two notable minds which point in the same direction:... J.K. Galbraith once wrote, "Faced with a choice between changing ones mind and proving there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy with the proof." So true. Leo Tolstoy who was even bolder: "The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him." I hunch women behave similarly! So, if that is also true, how do we get any kind of progress in business? Click here to read more: https://claritycollege.co/do-facts-change-minds/

03.01.2022 It is no secret that I love reading, so this quote from James Clear resonated with me: One book will rarely change your life, even if it does deliver a lightbulb moment of insight. The key is to get a little wiser each day. Here is a link to his post with ideas on how to get the most out of the books you read. Although it has more than 5 points, its worth a read!... https://jamesclear.com/reading-comprehension-strategies

02.01.2022 In my recent webinar one of the participants, Rob asked an interesting question: when sitting on a board, what do you do if the business leaders consistently do not answer your questions? He mentioned that he and other board members were finding this to be a problem: when asked a question, the leaders would beat around the bush and not answer it. Does this happen to you? ...
